  • Loved the album

  • Great review, although I really liked the 5 boroughs. I think it was very distinct in it's old school sound. The Beasties always used things like 808's and synths but on that album they shine. Letter to NYC is such a good song! Anyway, can't wait to check out more reviews.

One question - Is this white double LP a limited edition?

  • I dont even like the beastie boys and I loved this review.

  • rap rap song

  • and cup holders lol!!

  • Hot Shots Comitte Part Duex

  • Agreed with everything said in the review, To the 5 Boroughs should never have happened, but I still have the album and Ch-Ch-Check It Out is the only good song from it. This album just leaps & bounds beyond what BBoys has done in the past, I think Paul's Botique was my favorite album but not anymore after this album.

  • Hey review Watch The Throne.

  • review earl by earl sweatshirt asshole

  • I've bought quite few albums this year & this baby is one of the few I keep coming back too. Never tire of Beastie's.

  • You know Anthony likes an album when he goes: Hm *nods with a big grin*

  • I dislike this

  • i love the way you describe music in physicality. like these noises are things, actors, all playing a part--a ballet of, in the case of this album in particular, 300' tall robots and garbage men wearing orange boots, growing tentacles and serving deli sandwiches maybe, all in coordinated dance.

  • can you review kesha and miley cyrus?

  • Like sipping lemonade and Arnold Palmer....

  • i'd give this album a light to decent 10.

  • shut up

  • you should review Self Titled: By Me by ASH FOX.

you can get it on ashfox.bandcamp.com

  • Very good review, you hit the nice points about the songs and pretty much say what I've been thinking. Even if you're not a fan of the beastie boys, this album should grow on you if given time.

  • Damn....This guy should go back and listen to " To the 5 Boroughs" and listen to the sweet lyrics the B-Boys kick. I guess people don't like it when the B-Boys reflect their political opinions on an album. I thought it was genius!!! Simple and pure beats also. Not some mess of noise like some of the newer stuff. True B-Boys fans I think would love the alum.

  • Q-Tip was smooth with the B-Boys. Nas is good too...

  • Sleep to this, seriously, It's great.

  • You keep pushing up your glasses! D:<

  • Pause at 2:07 LOL

  • cool review man

  • Thank you for the review man! Can't wait to hear it and will now definitely buy it. And oh yeah, subscribed. =)

  • Nice review (The Beastie Boys are actually my favorite band of all time). I'm loving this album so far, it has some really amazing tracks on it. My least favorite though is actually Too Many Rappers, because it's a remix. The original was released on a single in 09' and it sounded much better. But whatever, it's good to see the Beasties picked up their instruments again for a rap album and not just an instrumental (Although I love the Mix-up).

  • I thought Pop Your Balloon was supposed to be on this record?

  • Good review. I love this album and would have to agree with your points about Nas. Much as I like Nas and Too Many Rappers, it just never feels 'right' to me when a Beasties track features another rapper. Even the song on Ill Communication with Q-Tip, who I like as well. I just think the Beasties function so well as a unit and are such a well-oiled machine that bringing in a fourth emcee kind of throws off the flow of their rhymes and how well they play off of one another.

  • @ohcalcutta81 The song with Q-Tip , for me, made that album a lot better. Q-Tip can hang with the B-Boys any day and he made that song great for me because i'm a big fan of Q-Tip. To the 5 Boroughs is a great album. More true to old school for me. Don't know why it got dissed as not liked by many???

  • Awesome review...My only gripe is To The 5 Burroughs was about "Starkness" it wasn't that they weren't pushing themselves because they were being lazy-They made a creative choice-like they always do. It's very much their "Mantronix / early 80's future album"-a niche sound to be sure...but they don't care if they alienate people-They do their own thing. Seems like everybody is always hung up on their nostalgic fave Beastie Boys album. Meanwhile their off in another dimension..another dimension.

  • Hey needles jus subbed I want to know ur opinion on pop your balloon - I think it's my favorite song on the album

  • YESS! Hello Nasty was my first and fav Beasite Boys album....tonnes of texture, layers? Mmmmh.. Trippy? Psychedelic? Yuuss!!

  • has he ever given anything a 10?

  • well my name is Mike D and i got a new name and that new name is LARRY !!!!

  • i heasr what the needle drop is saying about the 5 boroughs, i have major respect for the beastie boys doing that album its a love letter to new york, especially after the tragedy of 9/11.

favourite beastie albums in order, from the top: ill communication, pauls boutique, hellu nasty, licensed to ill, to the five boroughs then check your head. but who am i kidding they are all amazing.

  • @thetommyd237 Check your Head is by far the B-Boys BEST from beginning to end. Ill Communication was one of my least favorite. That's what is great about the Beastie Boys. There is something there for us all. Before I have an Opinion about Sauce 2 I will have to listen to it on a my stereo with the bass up very high!!! I guess this guy never gave To The 5 Boroughs a chance. I had to listen to it a few times before it grew on me though.

  • you pretty much nailed it. i agree to the tenth degree!

  • @movrinoscopy yes!

  • youre an idiot

  • i actually really liked to the five boroughs and still do, definatly alot better then hello nasty

  • @RunningP123456 you must be new to this game.

  • I'm grooving a easy 9

  • I love this album! Your right the production is sooo good. These guys are so creative too.

  • i thought you were gonna hattteeeee on thisss

  • Probably said already, but The Hole Punch Generation's album. Review eet.

  • "High Plains Drifter" FTW!

  • Fleet Foxes/Thursday REVIEw

  • 9/10? are you on crack or what? It's not the worst Beastie Boys record (the two last one were) but 9/10 it's over rated big time if you want my opinion!

  • I have never asked you to review an album before and I've watched all of your videos, but holy shit PLEASE review Death Grips Exmilitary album. I saw you liked the video of Beware so I know you know of it. Please. I can't ask enough.

  • Fleet Foxes!!=D

  • @masterofscotland He already reviewed it

  • @masterofscotland he did the new album recently. .

  • Perfect review. Agree with every point. great album!

  • I thought the The 5 boroughs was a great album but that's just me

  • I'm loving this as well, so glad I wasn't let down.

  • I'm diggin' this album like crazy. I went from listening to Melechesh... to Beastie Boys. Only these guys can I do something like that.

Black Metal to unique Hip Hop with twists, and flavour. Awesome.

  • OBVIOUSLY HE WILL REVIEW GOBLIN. STOP COMMENTING ABOUT IT.

  • Scott Matthews - Passing Stranger.

    Plz.

  • Next video review:

THURSDAY- NO DEVOLUCION (really would like to see your opinions)

  • Why haven't you reviewed any of the Madlib Medicine Show albums that came out and are still coming out?

  • When watch the throne drops, u should really review it

  • @ramshadify WATCH THE THRONE IS GONNA BE TERRIBLE. Jay-Z is going to ruin it.

  • Maybe TT5B wasn't as well-produced as it could have been - they had just come off a LONG stint with producer Mario C - though the many highlights sure as hell make up for it: Triple Trouble, Open Letter to NYC and of course Ch-Check It Out, just to name a few. Now it seems they've become accomplished producers as well as rappers and the name album is a testament to that. My least fav would have to be Licensed to Ill because I feel it lacks the substance of their later work. Great Vid

  • REVIEW BTSTU BY JAI PAUL!

  • Well f*%& I can't believe it it's actually not bad. Damn.

  • Having a least favorite Beastie Boys album is like having a least favorite form of torture.

  • tyler the creator - goblin , Snowgoons - Iron Fist

  • the new ravonettes, i should bloody well think so...........

  • I know its a mixtape but The Odd Future Radical would have too be my hip hop LP pick, or Shoalin Vs Wu Tang

  • Okkervil River - I Am Very Far

  • Beastie Boys......off I go to further familiarize myself with their catalogue, not that I never knew any of their music, I just never caught up....does Sabotage count?

  • Glad your enjoying this as much as i am

  • You ARE going to review Tyler's Goblin.

  • ANTHONY!! could we get a review of the new Fleet Foxes? it's streaming on NPR :-)

  • You should review the unicorns" Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?". They're weird and energetic and also made an appearance on how i met your mother, i don't know what that last thing has to do with their music but it happened and you should review them.

  • @OfficialPlasticHands He actually had that album was album of the week once (and it made my week).

  • fleet foxes are nice... but sufjan is thee best

  • i dont care for the beastie boys... too much yelling calm down

  • I fucking LOVE the Beastie Boys.

  • Any chance for a review of Julian Lynch's new album Terra?

  • Man deafheaven is alright, most of th guys in that band are assholes though.

  • I was down with these guys when I heard their first album and the song "So Wacha' Want" and got into them ever since.

  • You should Track Review the new Tom Vek "Chores"

  • I'd like to hear what you think of the new ones by The Go! Team or The Get Up Kids.

What you said sounds like just what I want from a Beastie album. Can't wait for it.

  • I am so stoked for this. Beastie Boys are my favorite hip hop group of all time mainly for the reasons you stated, each album has its own distinct flava.

  • What does Cal think of this album?

  • is that paul's boutique hanging in the background?

  • I fricking can't stand "Two of the Five Burroughs", at all. I'm hoping this album takes the bad taste out of my mouth from that album. I really do

  • Absolutely LOVING the album and I love the Santogold track and the Lee Majors track. Detours are what the Beastie Boys are great at. Interestingly your least favourite album "To The 5 Boroughs" was the first album produced by the Boys themselves. Great review though and good to listen to someone who obviously listened to it properly.

  • Hey, I was wearing red shorts today too.

  • where do you go to here these alums before they come out?

  • I beg of you sir, ignore Cal's dumbass nay saying and review Blue Sky Black Death's Noir!

  • REVIEW THE NEW O'DEATH ALBUM

    please

  • Review the Operation Doomsday Reissue?

  • Do ANY one of the mars volta albums

  • I actually like the fact that the Beasties didn't make this a completely straight-up rap album.

    I'm feelin it.

    Very laden with many textures.

    Hmmmmmmmmm.

  • Best rap album of 2011 so far - Classified's "Handshake & Middle Fingers"! REVIEW IT!

  • Today's best drinking game on the internet: Every time he touches his glasses, you have to drink. I just took 16 shots.

Review next? I would recommend Yacht's Dystopia the earth is on fire & a definite maybe to Black Mountain's Rollercoaster.

  • Explosions In The Sky - Take Care, Take Care, Take Care

  • I honestly didn't like this album at all at first listen, aside from "Make Some Noise" and "Don't Play No Games that I can't Win", and maybe a couple other tracks, but I'll definitely revisit it and see if it grows on me. I just thought that all of the vocal effects were really annoying and got in the way of me enjoying it, and didn't like a lot of the sounds they put into the songs.

  • Antlers-Burst Apart

  • More like the year 3030 amirite?

  • You should do either a track review of something from man man's new album, or do a full review once it comes out. So excited for May 10th.

  • dont tell me you are still punishing cal! he already has enough strikes against his personality and now hes going to be an annoying grind nerd to boot?

  • Anthony handing out a 9!???!

  • I expect you'll review goblin the day it comes out

  • Hooray for Funkadelic references!

  • glad to know it's amazing

  • What was the last review that you rated 9? That's rare!

Whatever, please review Simon Hennemans' album Black Magic & Moustache...
