I remember watching him when I was a kid man he was a beast. I recall an interview one time with the Denver Broncos it was at the hieght of the Bosworth craze the reporter asked one of the wr's if they were worried about the Boz he said "Hell no I'm more worrried about where Easley is at he'll take your fricken head off" lol great responce.
then you must be a hell of a player because Easley was a beast!! ronnie lott was in Easley shadow in all of college and the pro's the 1st five or six years!! shoot there are a lot of players and hall of famer's who think he should be in the hall of fame with only playing 7 years that's how good he was
Easley played and flew around that field like a bird of prey! If I can think of any player who WAS a Seahawk, it was Kenny. Get well Kenny! We love ya brah!
I've supported the Seahawks since '81. Living in England I've never, sadly, been to a game, but all the reports I read, or saw on tv, consistantly had Kenny Easley's name at their heart. He is in my personal Hall Of Fame, and that of many supporters from all teams. He didn't just have fans, he had admirers, and still does.
Best safety of all time. One of the best football players ever, HOF for sure. What the hell do the HOF voters care if a safety has a shorter career, total tackles? Bullshit, he is one of the best and should be in Canton!
They didnt say that 1984 Kenny was the AFC defensive player of the year. If it wasnt for the bad kidneys, he would have been HOF. Ronnie Lott might have been a bigger hitter but Kenny was a better all around Strong Safety. Deron Cherry was close but not as good as Kenny
Big,fast & explosive Easley was a big-play performer who found his way to the ball & punished ballcarriers. Physical & smart, he could run with the fastest tight ends and thump with linebackers. He was one-man wrecking crew forcing the run,had great feel, ran like a deer, and created havoc all over the field. His brutal hits shook Richter scales and in 1984 his 10 interceptions led the AFC. A hit man deluxe,he loved to play close to the line and was superior athlete with punch of Marvin Hagler.
I think Kellen Winslow's comment said it best. He was a heavy hitter, and a great cover man. The total package. I too think he should be in the Hall of Fame. And to those detractors that say he didn't play long enough, my comment to that is that he played the same amount of seasons as Gale Sayers.
Hey Juantio, you ball sniffing dung licker! Seahawks never had a badass???? Easley was one of the baddest boys ever. Period. And if you don't know about Easley then you don't know, so keep your nasty cock holster shut.
There wasn't and hasn't been anyone badder than Kenny Easley. He was a blast to watch. I saw him return 4 interceptions for touchdowns in one game! The Lions were afraid to touch the ball when Easley was on the field!
I was present the night they inducted him into the ring of honor at halftime, but it was I that felt honored to witness it. It was good to see the hatchet buried and the Seahawks bestowing him the team's highest honor, since the HOF will sadly elude his grasp.
Easley should be in the Hall of Fame. When people today talk about Rodney Harrison going in the Hall, I laugh. Harrison couldn't hold Easley's jock. Plus Easley was vicious but not dirty. Harrison can't make that claim.
He may have had a short career, but at his absolute prime he was probably the best NFL safety ever. Yes, I know that says a lot. But keep in mind by late in the 1984 NFL season, and into the playoffs, other teams were not throwing a single pass his direction the entire game they were so terrified of his cover ability, and hitting.
It's a real shame that Kenny isn't in the Hall of Fame. He, Mike Curtis, Deron Cherry and Jerry Kramer all easily deserve it.
The year was 1978. U.C.L.A. at U. of Washington. A fourth down punt was blocked by an unknown #5 named Kenny Easley, who returned the ball for a touchdown ! From that moment on I became a huge Kenny Easley fan ! I watched him dominate teams in college and pro games. KENNY EASLEY is my favorite all time defensive back ! I wish he could have played his pro ball here in New York City for the Jets.
Kenny Easley was one of the greatest football players ever(nuff said)..Just let the video speak for itself. I watched Seattle every single time they played and recorded the games when Easley played. He was the reason I wanted to attend UCLA...(I didn't)...However finally I will one day own a Jersey with #45 and I will put his name on it...for a tribute...there was only one Kenny Easley..
Kenny Easley show have been voted into the Hall of Fame years ago. It's all a popularity contest instead of the best players. Jerry Kramer of the Green Bay Packers is another one who is has not been voted in and he has not played in 40 years.
Should have included this in my previous post, but he certainly belongs in the Hall in my view. He's sorta the Sandy Koufax of the NFL- short but magnificent career. While I'm at it, I'll give a shoutout to another AFC West safety of the 80s-90s for the Hall- Deron Cherry of the Chiefs. Incidently I'm a Bengals fan who has no bias here.
I'll always be a Seahawks fan, but what they did to 45 is utterly shameful. Imagine it: your own team won't tell you that your kidneys are about to fail & that you'll likely die w/o immediate treatment. Instead, they traded him & he heard it from the Cards' physicians.
His # should have been retired 15 years ago, but they'd have to admit what they did. What corporation is ever going to do that, let alone an NFL team...
Man Kenny Easley! They way we use to say his names as youngsters in the hood. Kennnnyyy Easleeeeeeyyyyyyyy baby. We use to fight to see who would be Kenny Easley. What a great athlete way ahead of his time. He made the Saftey position what it is today. To be up in Seattle and represent the way he did with out all the media outlets and hype like other major cities was a testement within it's self. We still talk about Kenny as one of the greats in my era growing up loving football as a kid!
Thank you for posting! Growing up in Seattle, when the neighborhood kids would play ball, I'd always proclaim "I'm Kenny Easley!" I was also at the Dome the first time he took a punt return. As a child I never knew what caused his kidney problems. Hopefully they consider him for the HOF someday, he was one tenacious player.
I had no idea he played for such a short time and that he had kidney failure. I thought he was already in the Hall. He was the Ronnie Lott of the AFC.
Thanks so much for this video! Ken Easley was my favorite player growing up. His career was short, but I hope he ends up in the HOF. Seeing Lott in the HOF bothers me 'cause anyone who is a realist knows that big Ken was the better player and harder hitter! Long live #45!
Todd Christianson likes to comment that during the 1984 Pro-Bowl the NFC (Seattle was in the AFC at that time) didn't even throw the ball in Kenny's direction the entire game! Not once! And this was the Pro Bowl!
Had his career not been cut short Kenny would certainly be in the Hall of Fame. He probably belongs there anyway.
I can see why he went ahead of Ronnie Lott. Believe it or not, Kenny was a more ferocious hitter than Lott, IF YOU CAN BELIEVE THAT!!! He should have been a Raider. Can you imagine if the Raiders got him & LOTT!!! It would have been Tatum & Akinson all over again!
