  • @argus055 now there's a good thought! Why not ask them yourself on facebook facebook dot com /theoriginalSilverhead

  • has he got a bra on ?

  • HUGE NEWS!!!! Silverhead, featuring Michael Des Barres, Robbie Blunt, Rod T Davies, Nigel Harrison and Pete Thompson will be doing 2 shows in Tokyo April 20 & 21, 2012

    SHIMOKITAZAWA GARDEN155-0031 2-4-5 Kitazawa,

    Setagaya-ku, Tokyo, Japan

    Find Silverhead on Facebook

  • His cock is going to burst out of his pants lol

  • Days at Rodney's

  • meh, There were plenty of these clones for David Lee Roth to emulate. Check out Jim Dandy of Black Oak Arkansas and tell me he is any less an obvious influence.

  • Late 70's, Young Mr. Van Halen to a young Mr. Roth: "Hey, Dave, check out this tape of this group called Silverhead. You think maybe you could go with that kind of look?..."

  • Thanks..this is damned interesting to see,but no wonder this lot fell by the wayside, thisis boogie woogie by numbers,in other words..CLICHÉ CITY.

'Rolling with my baby"..?..Crashed with my baby...more like...

  • Great Band!!! Just saw a recent post from the Rod Davies Band doing this. Great version of it too I might add. Wish they would do a reunion tour.

  • Oh my God! I love it!

I'm italian, i don't understant everything. Can someone write the lyric?

  • What a rockin' song! These guys had it together here. What a group! - Mike (Reese's dad)

  • Thanks YouTube and fans of Silverhead!!!!! My upload of Rolling With My Baby is now a Featured Video. The guys have such gratitude and appreciation for all of you. It was tough when the band broke up, but knowing you are out there, you remember, and you still appreciate the music, makes the bad memories fade and the good ones all the more special.

  • @abozoette

Thank you for sharing this video!

Just one question: can you tell me where I can find the lyrics of the two silverhead's albums? I just can't find them anywhere.

    Thanks a lot

  • @Ampzilla76 I've been doing a search myself. I've found several sites that say they have the lyrics, only to find that they need to be added (AOL music redirects to Grim Skunk) Sounds like a good project for someone, perhaps a few someones...Calling all Silverhead fans, can you help us out here?

  • @abozoette I'd be very happy to help you but I don't know how; I mean I'm italian and I try to write down silverhead's lyrics anytime I listen to them, but I can't understand all the words! How can I contact you on you tube?

  • @abozoette How can I contact you privately on youtube?

  • No, it is Des Barres' ex-wife, Pamela who is the famous groupie. She has three books out. I agree, this group is SO bad; they're funny to watch. Who can take them that seriously not to like them? Definitely wouldn't even think about thinking about going to see them or to pay for their records. They should have been invited on Saturday Night Live, for sure, though.

  • mark.compton@socal.com

  • silverhead's two albums are masterpiece's. bone crunching rock and enjoyable ballads. two 'must have' records for any 'time capsule' rock collection.

  • They were so bad they were fucking great, lol Seriously, I loved 'em. More Than Your Mouth Can Hold indeed. I was playing records for a living early seventies, Silverhead were a staple. Everything that was trashy about the seventies, and that includes Lou Reed, New York Dolls and The Only Ones, Silverhead had a right to be included. Was it Michael Des Barres' sister who was the famous groupie?

  • @anthonydansullivan I believe you're thinking of Miss Pamela. She is not his sister, she is his wife

  • @anthonydansullivan That would be his wife, Pam. I agree about Lou Reed and New York Dolls. Never heard of the Only Ones. Have to try and hear them.

  • They should have bigger than Areosmith.I think Aerosmith stole there thing. What happened to Rod Davies?Drugs I suppose. You can tell from that video they had some good speed back then.

  • @honeyboy120 Rod is alive and well in Southern California currently working on a new project, The Rod Davies Band. They are sounding great, keep an ear out for it.

  • Hey folks, Purple Records (YouTube channel deeppurplefamily) has released the 16 & Savaged promo video I've been looking for. They call it Silverhead-Sunset Strip (??!!?) I am sooo buzzed about this...

When you're done watching, be sure to subscribe to their channel so you can catch some more great gems from their archives

    Rock On Claudette!!!!

  • @abozoette , yes, I'm still rockin Out ! Thanx !

Claudette, (from & still in Chicago)....

    ;-p

  • oh good lord, have you seen this Michael Des Barres Silverhead promo video? Classic! Workin' that chewing gum! All I can think of is Nigel Tufnel ha ha ha

  • I played a few times with Pete in a totally unrehearsed busking effort in Southend around '76 - then a couple of years later I was chatting backstage at the Pinkpop festival to Nigel who was then with Blondie. Small world eh?

  • Nice to see the St.Albans Civi connection. I saw them there supporting Argent [ex St,Albans schoolboys - some anyway] 16 & Savaged was the 2nd album I ever bought. They were brilliant live, saw them @ Hatfield Poly too awesome all round. There are 4 albums I know of & have; the 2 on Purple records, Live at the Rainbow angd 'Give Me Everything' a bootleg from shows at Ally Pally & elsewhere. Latter 2 availbale on Jap import I belive. I loved Bright Light from 16 &...

  • Saw 'em around 72/73 in Croydon supporting Uriah Heep. The Heep fans hated 'em but I loved 'em. Still got both their original vinyl albums. Check out Michaels Live Aid performance with Power Station too.

  • At 1970s japan tour , Michael showed his golden ball from his bikini pants, then 100girls lost mind . He is king of king !! He is Rock of ball !!

  • I've tried to post a couple of missing gigs to Michael's website but I can't get through -

maybe someone with a better connection can tell him!!

They played in the North East on three occasions that I know of (I was at all of them) - and he only lists the Newcastle Nazareth gig -

They Played Sunderland Locarno twice -

    July 13th 1973 - supporting Wizzard

June 7th 1974 - headlining with Highway supporting. Cheers.

  • I saw them in Leeds in 74 as support for ?

  • Leeds University -

    27th January 1973 -

    Wizzard/Silverhead.

    Leeds Town Hall -

    24th October 1973 -

    Nazareth/Silverhead.

  • Thanks Neil, 1973 and Nazareth it was.

  • robbie blunt went on to perform with robert plant....

  • wanna be sausage jockeys- hey man, I got a great idea.. oh ya what?

put this in your spandex.. bowie met skynard & conceived

  • Talk about nostalgia, I saw Silverhead in Columbus, Ohio as an opening act with Fleetwood Mac second on the bill and Uriah Heep as the headliner. Awesome concert. I was always proud to have seen Mac as 2td billing. Heep ruled in those days....73 or 74.

  • @buckhogg55 Yea, I was there. Nostalgia no doubt. That was pre-Buckingham/Nicks era. I think it was Peter Green lead singer. Uriah Heep was great. So loud. My ears still ringing. French Field House. OSU. Have a good one.

  • I know its a bit of the subject, but there was a good buzz around St Albans in the 70's. I use to drink at the Noke.. In the Stable bar.. it was more like a youth club, complete with football table.. all under age, but never any trouble..brilliant

  • I was a chef at the Noke then, great memories.

  • Great to see the Civic get a mention....a great venue and every saturday I was there from 72-76

  • THIS IS GREAT! I wanted to get brother guitar lessons for his 40th birthday...I called guitar center in Pasadena Ca. and asked for a phone number of someone that would teach him some blues rock, stones type of licks. The guy gave me Rod "the rook" davies number. He gives lessons in the pasadena area.

  • Youtube is great for bringing this stuff back to life. Silverhead was the first live band I saw approx 1974.. about 15 yeras old..It was at St.Albans Civic. Got drunk for the first time. Excellent gig.. still got the album. Has anybody ever seen any clips for GoodHabit, another great Civic band?

  • I was there too, we followed them all over the SE of England. Civic was a great venue, Alex Harvey, Pretty Things, Good Habbit who became Racing Cars, Stackridge and local boys Argent also great nights with Chicken Shack every Friday night wa a winner. Ray B

  • I was working at a hotel called The Noke

in St Albans and met one of the guitarist from Silverhead, he was a mate of one of the porters. Great days

  • Steve Marriott would never have been caught dead or alive in that mid-driff shirt, Michael. LOL.

  • Fantastic rock and roll..! I was there on those days...he he.. with...my girl...Forget today's crap music...

  • Brilliant rock n roll! Thank you for this. Michael is one great bloke.

  • macgyver!!!!!!!

  • Saw them open for Uriah Heep at the Salem, Or. Armory in '74! Fookin' brilliant show! I bought their record the next day. They were a hell of a lot of fun.

  • A few things: a) Michael sounds like Steve Marriott from Humble Pie; b) Robbie Blunt later played with Robert Plant (and, rolandgp8, Robbie is NOT unknown, dude); c) Nigel Harrison became the bassist for Blondie; d) I got this album from my Dad, who worked at MCA Records, as a cut out demo and fell in love with Silverhead. I memorized the lyrics for all the songs. Michael is still performing. A Silverhead reunion would be a fun idea, wouldn't it? : )

  • e) Pete Thompson also played with Plant and now tours with Robin Trower. f) A very fun idea : )

  • I saw them supporting Nazareth in'74 they were superb!!

  • i was listening to the first album last night, actually, and it's great. as the album's liner note don't detail the members of the "silverettes", who were female backing vocalists, does anyone know their identities? michael des barres is a cast member of the film, "to sir with love." check it out, and thanks for posting this treat!

  • One of the Silverettes was Suzi Quatro

  • thanks.

  • Isn't that the singer for Scum of the Earth?

Michael Des Barres has such a great voice for rock. He and Roger Daltrey are quintessential voices of hard rock. I know there shouldn't be more than 1 quintessential voice, but I'm a rule breaker......

  • yes, Scum of the Earth, the band that visits the studio at WKRP! That was him wasn't it!

  • Just watched that episode on Hulu. Micheal still had "the hair". I also noticed a Detective poster next to Travis' desk in one shot. Subtle?...NOT

  • @robertwienerrocks , Michael also went on to be lead singer of "Detective" & is an actor as well. I recently seen him on reruns of "Rosanne" & "Frasier." Michael also has his own web-site.

  • Happy Birthday Pete Thompson.

  • Saw them at Leeds town hall way back ... brilliant

  • And Tim Rice!!!!

  • Just been on Michael Des Barres website and I learnt something (apologies to anyone who alteady knows this)

    Who put Silverhead together -

    go on, have a guess

    It was (cue fanfare) -

    Andrew Lloyd Webber!!!!

  • I saw them once in NYC. They were great.

  • Is this the same Thompson that later drummed with Robin Trower ?

  • @Bronzecaster67 Yes, the very same. He is still with Robin.

  • All David Lee Roth fans ought to watch this. Talk about ripping a guy off wholesale, is there any aspect of Des Barres he didn't copy? Unbelievable.

They remind me of another band who got ripped off...The Heavy Metal Kids. Sounds like Des Barres was a big influence on Gary Holton's voice.

  • Silverhead and Heavy metal kids were very similar bands - live and on record.

I saw Silverhead 3 times and Heavy metal kids once - brilliant gigs.

When people talk about rock music being boring before punk they obviously didn't see these two bands!

  • It annoys me when ppl talk about the sex pistols as if they came out of nowhere & were an antidote to prog rock. The Sweet were playing virtual punk rock years before & most punk bands just carried on in the pub rock tradition. It's a myth that the sex pistols changed everything, they just created alot of hype. I read that john Lydon once said to Gary holton "How does it feel to be ripped off, Holton?" I'm too young to have seen HMK, but the live clips I've seen look pretty wild!

  • Too right ft - If you speak to punks like Max Splodge or Chelsea, they'll tell you that they loved, and grew up with, bands like Heavy metal kids, Silverhead and other rock bands of the mid 70s.

However, documentaries about Punk rock tell us differently - does it ever mention bands like the Heavy Metal Kids or Silverhead? - no. Apparently, the only people that punks listened to were Patti Smith and Lou Reed!! Whaaaat!

  • Right on Neil!

  • Well, Roth did have the karate jump-kicks. And I believe he would at least spit his chewing gum out before a performance.

  • @ftftttffttffttf For a minute I thought I was watching an early VH demo tape. The hairdo, the outfit, the facial expressions, the "ooohh-yeeahhs". Diamond Dave is a CLONE of this dude!

  • Sounds like the only good 70's Glam Band besides some Mott and Alice.

  • There's The Sweet, Slade & T Rex to name 3.

  • saw them in jacksonville fla several times they allways put a great show we used to a candert every week during the summer at the coliseum 4 bucks a ticket festival seating

  • Thanx for the look at how much I've changed.

    M.G.P. Citzen of Earth.

  • Good to see this some one must have some more!

Any one around who used to go see the band at St Albans Civic or Watford college. Those where the days! Are the albums available on CD my vinyl is well scratched been playing them over 30 years. I reckon a remix wold chart no problem.

  • Saw them everywhere in and around London, but as I lived in Edgware at the time, definitely saw them at St.Alban' (along with everybody else who played there) and at the Palace Theatre in Watford town centre (about a mile from where I now live). I remember that one, 'coz I had enough money left for either a couple more pints or the train fare home. I walked! Remember seeing Stray at Watford college (about the 100th time I'd seen them).

  • Great story, blueswailer...cheers!

  • Just watched these old Silverhead vids - excellent. I too saw them loads of times at the Civic Hall in St Albans. I have the first album, 16 & Savaged and the two Detective albums (with Des Barres singing, which are superb. I am in the process of converting them from vinyl to cd/mp3 - one of my favourite bands along with Zep I used to queue at the bar in St Albans for ages - no one ever served quickly enough! Used to buy 6 pints so that there was no need to return before the break ended.

  • Fairplay to you abozoette. I obviously love Michael but I also love David Lee Roth. I've never really thought about him copying Des Barres. I'd like to think that Silverhead were an influence on Blondie and the whole New York scene. The obvious influence to me on Lee Roth was Jim Dandy from Black Oak Arkansas.

  • Oh totally. David Lee Roth was just lucky that Black Oak Arkansas were pretty much forgotten by the time he hit the scene. He's a clone of Jim Dandy.

  • mleefin - I'm totally jealous that you know the man Des Barres but let's get one thing straight. Silverhead weren't a glam band, they were a ROCK band.

  • I totally agree they were a rock band. If you disregard the outfits and the makeup of 1972 and go straight to the music, oh hell yeah it's Rock and Roll! They ditched the glam look soon after the release of their first LP, tho Des Barres maintained his trademark performance style (David Lee Roth owes alot to Michael, doncha think). Glam is not the best label, but it is the one that stuck.

  • Michael Des Barres is without a doubt one of the coolest glam rockers. He is also a total sweetheart, complete charmer, and still has it all at age 60. Lovely man.

  • Wow. I mean, who knows how countless many exclusive little groups there are online, but to have met up with other Silverhead fans is amazing. "Long Legged Lisa" rocks.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for this. What a brilliant band. I saw Wizzard at Sunderland Mecca in 73 and this lot were supporting. I was impressed. Saw them support Nazareth at Newcastle City Hall a bit later and I was hooked - they were brilliant live - I was totally hooked by Des Barres when I was a kid at school. I eventually saw them headline at the Mecca in 74 and they were brilliant. I LOVE this band

  • Brilliant. Have always loved this band. Recently bought 'Show me Everything'-Live concert audio CD. Quality is Sh1t but still worth having. Never thought I'd see this. Thanks for sharing

  • I was convinced there was no Silverhead footage out there. You just made my year :-)

  • Yeah, I was pretty jazzed when I found it too. According to Des Barres website, there were 2 promo videos made. And an appearance in an unreleased film. I'll keep looking...

  • I talked to my dad (robbie) about this not that long ago, he thinks there are a few live bootlegs out there as well.

  • Dude, Robbie is your Dad...??

He is one of my favorite musicians and a big reason I do what I do in life. I know he's inspired/influenced a lot of people all over the world. I could only hope to have that type of influence on ONE person and I would be content.

Robbie is one of the greatest 'unkown' guitarists... he should be up there with all the 'greats' and not just a musician's secret.

Say thank you to your Dad for me.

    Cheers

  • looked like ny dolls before ny dolls. however, in the ny dolls defense, silverhead sounded a little

more like deep purple whereas the dolls totally had the punk-before-punk thing down

  • Yep, the singer in particular, is total Johansen.

  • MACGYVER was the man and so was his arch enemy MURDOCK... AKA the lead singer of this band...

  • Fantastic.... I loved this song when I was a kid and I love it still. I am glad to have it on vinyl and cd. Great performance, but playback. This is amazing with youtube, I can see here things I thought I'd never see in my life. Especially good old music. thx for posting it here!!!

  • michael des barres is fucking cool....great stuff!!!

  • Gosh, thank you for posting. I want to hear "Only You"

  • I knew that the band on "still crazy" was based on someone===now I know who!!!!

I actually knew an old guy in Eastbourne who claimed to be MDB's dad!

  • thanks so much for this. xx

  • I am so going to take the pi55 out of Mr. Thompson when I see him next!!

  • Legendary

  • great to see rare footage of Robbie Blunt!! Thanks!

  • Hee Hee Pete, you could have been in the Loreal Adverts !!! great piece of history tho Karen x

  • Amazing! MDB's so nice;-)
