There are also accents on certain chords to give the vamp greater harmonic dynamics however it's hard to document this here. I'd like to thank George Fortunato for transcribing these chords.
@FenderHotRod93 Hey - it's from the Guitarist Magazine DVD Vol2.... never paid much attention to it until I heard What I Wanna Hear.... blew me away - exactly the kind of playing I love - didn't know 'till I'd heard it tho'
@mikaltch Nope, not really. I got one, and a lot of other stuff too. It doesn't make me play/sound anything like this guy can (that's ok, i'm not trying to. But i absolutely couldn't come close if i ever did). Gear is not the secret... but you know that really. ;)
@loopdawgg I seriously doubt it! It helps him, it wouldn't help us one jot - its small tolerances in tone/response versus a mighty big talent gap... the cliche is true - guys like this usually play top-flight gear, because they are good enough to squeeze every last drop of juice out of their tools, and at that level, every % matters. But its the converse just isn't true - great gear doesn't buy you great playing. Without the latter, the former counts for nothing. Its just not the secret weapon.
I saw Matt & Ian Siegul last night in Nottingham, left me awe inspired by such genius. Defo top 10blues guitarist of all time but with Jazz element to define his style - up there with Stevie Ray & Jimi but neither of those guys could master the Jazz that Matt can do so effortlessly as featured in this video
I think when he talks about the ii/v chord he is referring to the dominant to the ii chord in the progression. this is used sometimes to change keys or expand a progression
yep i don't play great and should stop and start the vid does anyone know the chord sequence used here or any other links regarding twelve bar chords that are more advanced? just looking to get better at playing got some robben ford books that are also great
Take some great blues. Water it down with some pseudointellectual chords that noone will remember and play some atonal notes over it...and you've got??? Oh yeah...JAZZ...lol!!
What was that Skydog? just because your a washed out old blues rocker that keeps rehashing the same old pentatonic box distorted shit again and again and again. This guys a breath of fresh air in a genre that's been fucked over and fucked up too many times by hacks like yourself.
yeah they both have their own sig amps i believe. i know john mayer does at least and it'll set you back $8500 but you won't get one cause there are only 25 of them!!
A Mayer sig Two-Rock on sale in the UK right now (Machinehead Music). Yours for a cool £7k... ($14000!). Matt uses a slightly modded 100W Custom Reverb signature (from his own description on his forum).
hey that came out in the wrong place- was responding to woneee below....
Nb. I got the Two-Rock Jet (baby bro with same sonic DNA). I can't begin to describe how good these amps are. Expensive but not if it saves you buying and moving on 10 other amps to find *that* tone!
if you take a major scale,ex. C major, C = 1, D = 2, E = 3 ,F = 4, G = 5, A = 6, B = 7 then back to C Octave/8/1.. anyway II and V chords, as you can see, coresponds to D and G respectively. In basic theory the minor chords are always the II,III & VI so that's Dmin. while a V chord is always a dominant chord, so thats G7.. (2)II = Dm or Dm7 and (5)V = G7..
i hope that helped..its a bit confusing with the way i wrote it..lol! ... but that's pretty much it..anyway a II(2) & V(5) chord progression is Dm7 & G7 (always use 7th type of chord in jazz/blues) in the key of C major(the I(1) chord)... again thas Dmin7, G7, and CM7
second interval and fifth interval. say youre playing c major..a two chord would be d minor and a 5 chord would be G major. You have to know about harmonizing scales
I've been to many Blues and Jazz gigs. In Oxford on Monday nights, go to the Bullingdon Arms on Cowley Rd. I saw Hamilton Loomis play there a few times - AWESOME - and he brought on a guest guitarist - Matt Schofield - even better if such a thing is possible. I saw The Matt Schofield Trio there last week and they brought on a guest guitarist - Denny Ilett. Seriously a privilage to see such shows.
Wanted to update an earlier comment about the chords:
A13 / / A7#5 - D9 / / / - A13 / / Bb13(slide up to) - A13 / A7#5 /
D9 / / / - G13 / / / - A13 / / Ab13 - G13 / F#13b9 /
B-9 / / / - Bb13 / / / - A13 / C13 / - B13#5b9 / Bb13 / - A13
There are also accents on certain chords to give the vamp greater harmonic dynamics however it's hard to document this here. I'd like to thank George Fortunato for transcribing these chords.

@loopdawgg Yeah, that's the secret to excellent note choice and impeccable phrasing... a '61 Strat. Go back to the woodshed and quite whining.

A13 | D7 | A13 | A13
D7 | C#7#9/G#| A7 Ab7 | G7 F#7|
C-9| B13 | A13 C13 | B13 Bb13| and so on

Thats not a 6th chord it's F#13th flat9
moonkef 3 years ago
By "6 chord" he means 6th in the harmony, just like you say two-five. Since the blues is in A, the 6th of A is in fact F# - and yes, it is a 13b9.
chumbo 3 years ago
Ahh okay yeah good point, you're probably right but the submediant is F#m but hey, it's Jazz right! :)
