These are dowel creakers. You can also wrap cotton rope several times around the dowel to get a lower pitched creak. You can play a Flex-a-Tone to mimic a telephone bell. You can substitute plastic (Slurpy) cups for the coconuts--but "gallop" them in pea sized gravel to sound VERY realistic.
