Pookinator, I play a lot of cricket, and for me that is a standard run to be honest....
However the catch is still good, I like the way the full length dive is accompanied by the mitted glove reaching up- difficult to achieve under any circumstances!
Check out Paul Collingwood's 'catch of the century' or perhaps a cricket catches compilation video for some similar!
Cricket and Baseball catches make an interesting comparison!
To all the people arguing on whether he was in the air or not when he caught it, i believe he was. But WHO CARES!!!!! Even if you reach out as far as you can while you're running you're still going to end up laying out. If he were to try and catch that ball standing up it would have been stupid. He probably couldn't of even secured it, and if he did he just would of tripped over and fell flat on his face and he'd look like a retard. Great Catch Great Video. Thank You: the accfan
@PokerVT1 Yeah but since you brought up the cricket comparison I'd like to comment. The use of gloves in baseball has a multipurpose, not just used as protection but also gives the fielder a bit of an extension in catching balls that might otherwise be out of reach. Another use is a way of hiding the ball in an attempt to fool the runner. The pitcher will use his glove to hide the ball while adjusting his grip so the batter can't discern what type of pitch is coming.
@PokerVT1 Also balls are hit in to the outfield more often and with more power than in cricket where the batter faces the bowler directly instead of to the side of the plate like in baseball which allows the batter in baseball to use his full upper body strength and a full extension of his arms to power the ball for more distance. I'm no expert but it seems to me cricket has a lot more fielders, where as in baseball there are only 3 outfielders who have more ground to cover.
@PokerVT1 6 foot? that was a 13 inch glove max...Im no math expert...but thats NOT 6 feet. And no thats not a "standard run" he covered more ground than any cricket player needs to cover
i used to play centerfield and this catch is a lot harder than it looks. i agree 0:51 he is airborn. at first i thought he could have made the catch without diving but after looking at it, i doubt it. Great Catch, well played
y do people hate on people so much that was a great play the guy was in the air before he caught the ball n i bet the people who say they can makes this catch probably cant i play baseball n i respect a play like this is with no hate
Amen. I probably couldn't though I have slid to catch a ball in right field, but never actually laid out. I went 2 a Durham Bulls camp and catching it on the run hitting the wall 4 fun is still really hard. MUCH harder then it looks :P

the center fielder did not have to dive to catch that ball. he caught the ball before he dove it was not a great catch he could have caught it standing still. theaccfan is stupid to call that catch great
Do any outfielders play without the glove?

@PokerVT1 You can't be serious! Not only was the catch amazing, but the distance he had to run to get to ball made it even more amazing!
gatorcarter 1 year ago
@gatorcarter
the catch is ok, he makes a standard run, and dives and catches it with a 6ft square glove, dont see why it was so amazing.
PokerVT1 1 year ago
@PokerVT1 Oh, I see you're from the UK. That explains a lot.

@gatorcarter
if you look at some catches in cricket, they make the same catch like that without a glove

@PokerVT1 One thing I can't stand is people from Britain puting down anything American that they know nothing about.
