  • Dude you are awesome. It's a long repetitive passage, but around 6:05 did you start to lose rhythm, or am I imagining that? I know you don 't walk on water, I was just wondering was it me hearing that, or did it actually happen. No biggie. Either way, it's awesome.

  • That sounded brilliant! What a fun song to drum.

  • these drums sound great! awesome job man!

  • Incredible

  • That was excellent man.

  • Wow, I just finished watching the whole video. You're awesome dude!

  • Wow that looks really hard?

  • Isn't that Danney Carey's signature snare?

  • Dude that was amazing but... no one has covered the Salival "alternate" version yet. ID love to see it.

  • @thekillingjoke Which ride cymbal is that? sounds beautiful

  • @boomaslang paiste alpha 20" metal ride

  • @thekillingjoke thanks, keep up the great work ;)

  • no offense but it seems like your trying to copy carey

  • Superb.

  • whats that china you have to the right between the two floor toms? sounds exactly what im looking for

  • @imapisces23 Paiste Alpha 18" China

  • looks too fun wish i had the patience

  • excellent job

  • I always love how the difficulty in Danny's drum parts is so subtle.

  • Great job man! Lots of work to get that middle section right, let alone getting the madalas programmed the way you need them (dual zones, etc). Wow!

That snare really does want to be hit hard, doesn't it?

  • @demonbeats Thanks! Yes, I think the snare shows its full potential when being played hard.

  • @thekillingjoke fantastic! That snare seems to be tuned very low, I'd tighten it to get a more 'danny carey sound'

  • looks and sounds oddly exactly like dannys snare could it be?

  • @imapisces23 it's not. it's sonar's replica version. Danny uses a Jeff Ocheltree signature snare.

  • Dude your snare sounds JUST like Carey's.

    Incredible..

  • n1 one, impressing how correct you cover the drums

  • kick ass man.. you have most of the nuances down pat, not to mention the fills. nice work!

  • Oh I am very glad i got recommended this video. You are incredibly gifted. the mandala pad sequence was mesmerising,

  • What is the name of that Paiste crash on your right?

  • @scarsontable far right: Paiste Alpha Medium 14", the one with the yellow rag behind it Paiste Alpha Rock 18"

  • A Paiste man, just like Danny, awesome cover aswell.

  • just one word: GREAT!!!

  • great job man!

  • Nice :DDDD

Ur Good more as good :D

  • Comment removed

  • wow man! U are dead on that shit!

  • is it comfortable with you hats between your toms? sweet carey set up

  • @ALEXXvsZOMBIES very comfortable, once you're used to it. The distance between the hats and the snare can be an issue, so it probably doesn't work well with bigger toms.

  • nice job..solid.. not a fan of powerstrokes, but i heard Remo really stepped up their game in recent years..

  • Cool drumming! I prefer the snare heads a bit higher, but that´s taste. I hope Sonor send me soon the Danny Carey Signature Snare, they are in vacation.

    Keep up drumming!

  • The drumming from 4:00 is brilliant, very well thought out.

  • the snare sounds great!

  • this guy is interesting

his drum setup is alot like lars ulrichs because of the high hat placement

  • @graminator100 actually danny carey once had this set up with the hi-hat but didnt keep it because his feet werent comfortable or reaching it or something like that.

  • @watchingavideoatm The feet is thing right. The RemoteHiHat (the wire) gives him not the response he likes, so he switched back to the old one.

  • @watchingavideoatm danny carey liked the hi hat in the center like that because of the open handed style this set up lent it self to, how ever he changed back to the old way because he dislike the feel of a cable hi hat that they all just seemed to have a tiny bit of "play" in them, with a cable theres always somewhere theres a joint that just doesnt move at the same speed as your foot and danny carey disliked that feeling

  • fuck yeah!!!

  • i like your drum heads. what are they?

  • @metallika411 remo powerstroke 3 on the toms and emperor x on the snare.

  • You sir.... are a legend

  • You are very talented and must have put much time into your art. Thanks for sharing!

  • man! great job with the mandalas in that middle part! keep rocking!

  • that was soo good, such a difficult song and you totally pulled it off!!

  • Simply perfect !

  • I dunno if I'm hearing correctly or not but your snare sounds slightly choked or perhaps it needs to be at a more medium to high tuning. Every now and then I'm hearing like a really weird slap-ish sound I dunno I could be wrong...

  • Snare is not being used..

  • @ndhudecz He is using a deep snare...doesn't have the same "Crack" as a shallow one....also his wires sound to be in between.....not fully engaged or disengaged to me....or he could be doiing like a old drummer i had....guy used to stick a sock in his snare to take some of the cracking out...

  • @farithian That sounds about right!!

  • Hello, do you use original mandala pads library o use others?

  • @kranio82 I don't use the original library, I use Battery by Native Instruments and it's included library instead. Sometimes I tweak and change the samples to fit the song, especially on Pushit.

  • @thekillingjoke Ok thanks a lot, i search realistic vibraphone sample for vicariuos intro.

  • great cover dude.i'm subscribing ! btw i think the mandala part is more difficult the rest of the song ha!

  • It's amazing how you flow with.

  • Great video! I can't see how u can play with your toms all jacked up lol.

How could I get a hold of some mandala drum pads? Theyre like non existent..

  • @ITLT1 they are not being sold anymore, but I think there'll be a new version available later this year.

  • wow incredible video thanks for sharing, love the snare :)

  • Awesome cover dude..

But why copy Danny all the way down to kit???? Every drummer should have their own style..

  • @kyle3420 I don't consider this "my style", that would be awkward and stupid. But playing this stuff is a great learning expericence, and setting the kit up like this for a while makes a lot of sense. But I'm looking forward to do something different soon.

  • i dont know how u could have gotten any dislikes man, this sounded fucking perfect the whole way through.

  • hardcore danny carey fan right here, i salute you sir!

  • Danny would fucking be proud bro. This reeks of awesomeness.

  • Noone has done a Pushit (Salival version) cover...

  • Wow that was great! loved it!

Are you using a remote hi-hat to get it in the middle there? How do you find it set up like that? I play some beats open handed but this looks like it could be a great way to go about it!

Also loving the mandala pads. Do you find Battery really taxes your computer with that sort of 'instance' or 'kit' loaded? I was thinking of doing a similar thing but trying to work out how to bring it into a live setting. More gear, more to go wrong etc.

    Cheers for sharing ;)

  • @11brassmonkey11 Thanks! Yes, it's a remote hihat; a bit unaccustomed at first, but eventually very comfortable.

Battery doesn't take too much of a toll on the computer, at least not more than recording the acoustic drums. But you'd need an ASIO interface, or else the latency would probably be too much. I haven't used the mandalas live yet, and I imagine it would take a little bit of experimenting at first, for the right monitoring, etc.

  • @thekillingjoke

thanks again, i'll check it out. hopefully load some results up in the next few months once it's 'public viewing worthy' haha.

Hopefully Tool play pushit next month here in Melbourne. Can't wait!

  • BEST COVER OF THIS SONG I HAVE EVER SEEN! EASILY HANDS DOWN!!!!

Wow dude....I don't drum, but I know every fucking note in this song. You nailed all of those high hat and ride shifts and doubles and triplets and all of the other things that I really use to define the drumming of this song in my mind. Incredible.

  • This is like... the 100th time I watch this video, and I've just realized that, you have loose the snare drum??

  • @MrJanbravo yes, the snares are often down on tool songs.

  • I did not know late Bill Hicks played drums. Seriously though, bad ass job. Best tool drum cover of the best tool song.

  • if you change the position of your ride cymbal, you really got a similar Danny's Kit ;) Great job :)

  • Actually man nevermind. That cover was brilliant your a sick drummer you have awesome memory to play that (and all the other tool songs I've seen you cover) note for note and correctly keep changing through dannys sick time signatures and beats so smoothly, not many people can play like that. Keep jammin man your a beast !

  • Hey man to make it alot easier try not to hit the hats at the same time when you close them. Like when you do the fast 3 hits on the hi hats in the beginning riff part, if you don't hit it when you close it you only have to hit it twice, I found that really helpful for this song

  • I gotta say: I don't know what's more transfixing - the actual music during the middle interlude or watching you play it. I felt like I was getting lost in time watching you play that pattern. It must be a challenge to keep your concentration.

  • @AgnosDios I know right? What I've noticed is that when you play songs that are really complicated like this, you can't tense up, you just have to relax.

  • holy shit this video was uploaded on my b day!!!!

awesome job dude, keep those vids coming!

  • how long did it take you to perfect the song? this is mind bogglingly good.

  • @hell4raizer this one... about two month, mostly figuring out the mid section. this one isn't too hard to play.

  • @thekillingjoke

And yet you are the only person I have seen (on youtube) perform the ghost notes at the 7:00 minute mark correctly.

  • @TheeGoatPig I thought they were triplet beats with ghost on the snares and accents on the crashes.

  • well done

  • going for a danny carey setup? i like it

  • you make me dizzy in the mid part, haha, but great work

  • Dude could you please tell me what you tuned your snare to? It sounds perfect

  • amazing !!!!! one of the best drum cover i have seen flawless

  • i really can't stand paiste cymbals.... when you hit them there's noo motion... they swing back and fourth...

  • @baronofhell08

Personally I don't think you cant beat the sound of their crashes and hi-hats. Just the range they have impresses me.

  • @jon00769 gotta disagree with you bro, i'm more of a zildjian guy.

  • @baronofhell08 well, do you like the sound? or is it just the fact that they dont really dont vibrate much? because i cant stand sabians, they wobble like butter...

  • @Meatlooaf it depends on the cymbal, like i don't mind paiste's rides and china's because they are not one of those cymbals where the feeling matters. i like zildjian because no matter what cymbal you hit, they're not as stiff as a board (paiste) and don't feel like butter (sabian) zildjian is kind of my happy medium. i respect everyone's cymbal opinion, and i like the sound of the paiste signiture full crashs, but i'll stick with my zildjians :-P

  • @baronofhell08 fair enough!

  • WHere did u get the mandala pads i really want some and how much were they?

  • @WelcomeWakinyan they're available at mandaladrumstoredotcom

  • Man nice job! I really like the way your set up the sounds of your electronic drum pads. This video opened up my eyes also to the cool drum beats in this song. Love the beat at 3:01 and 4:20. I really enjoyed the video. Thank you.

  • very well done. is that the danny carey snare? how do u like it

  • incredible!

  • I LOVE your videos. Please do Eulogy!!!!

  • my drummer's a huge fan of your work man. I think he mentioned getting some of the mandala sound samples off of you so thanks for that. Check us out when you get a chance! :D

  • Hey man, Just wanted to say that I've watched a couple of your videos now and that you do a DAMN good job layen down the Danny Carey! I'm not a drummer but that doesn't mean I dont pay attention to what is going on, and he writes some of the most complex drumming that Ive ever seen(heard). Just being able to keep up with him is a feat in itself. You've really got a lot of talent. Thanks for sharing this with the world!

  • great drum man, what type of your shell and what skin do you use.

  • @humnoy01 the shells are mapex meridian maple (some toms are older, back when the series was called mars pro), skins: pin stripes or powerstrokes on the toms, emperor x on the snare

  • great job

  • that hi-hat sounds sick!:D

  • all I gotta say is thanks a million for doing this, Ive been wondering how to do some of those parts for years now

  • man what an inspiration. I just got a mandala and I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate it. guess i need 2 more now! Thanks man great stuff

  • Wow dude, I couldn't get over that solo with the mandala pads. You are badass man lol. I'm going to have to save up to add these to my sets.

  • WOW !! dude im a big Tool fan but never could i get this song down as good as u nice job danny would be proud (and is that danny,s signature snair? if so how much did you get it for )

  • nice kit!

  • Great job, man! Danny would be proud!

  • You should learn roseta stoned? personally i think thats the most difficult song danny plays, but i can see you mastering it.

You made this song look rediculiously easy, but 99% of drummers wouldnt be able to nail it like you did, simply awesome!!! look forward to more tool covers to come

  • i had no idea who tool was until i saw your videos. in my opinion this the best channel around. id still rather watch your shit then the actual drummer from tool!

  • @thelema3131 nice screen name =) 93

  • Khabs Am Pekht

    Konx Om Pax

    Light In Extension!

    A.·.

  • That was awesome. I think one of, if not the, best cover I've seen!

  • Every living drummer knows that Danny Carey is an extremely hard drummer to replicate...this cover is perfect. Absolutely perfect. Love the Carey setup too.

  • This is simply the best of any tool drummers out there (tbartels, tooldrummer22). just amazing. the others i mentioned are really great drummers, don't get me wrong, but mother scratcher, this guy gets the whole thing. fuck!

  • At 4:13, what you do from then on out is amazing. The intermission for this song is tricky, but mesmerizing to listen to and you did it better than anyone i've seen. How many mandalas do you have?

  • @Systematomatic thanks! i've got 4 of them... should be enough. :)

  • sick

  • Awesome cover dude. Fucking awesome... Best cover of Pushit I've seen around, and the 4 Mandala Pads make it more sweeter.

  • God that was soo good, now im late for school because i couldnt stop watching, thumbs up dude!

  • im lovin that remote hi hat man, what remote hi hat does danny carey exactly use if u know and does a remote hi hat need to mount onto anything because im not sure how would u mount or place it on a kit

  • @LTLfilms i think he tried this one (pearl rh-2000) and some others, but only during the first 10k days-tour, he's back to the standard position now. Mounting: you'll need at least one multiclamp (not included). I've actually mounted it onto the rack tom stand, with two multiclamps and part of an old cymbal stand. Looks a little adventurous, but works fine. It really depends on the rest of your setup.

  • Actually, let me correct myself, this IS the best cover I've seen, great job.

  • Nice job here man, one of the best I've seen, subbed!

  • you are really fun to watch. keep making the videos you really help some of us more than you think.

  • really nice. I'm probably the only girl watching this, but I loved it. You really got some skills.

But why do you only play tool? Do you never play something by the Beatles or the Stones? Just wondering..

  • @Janzah Thanks for raising my girl audience quota significantly! Why (only) Tool? - because with these songs I learn a lot of things that interest me right now (polyrhythmics, limb indepencende, , analyzing and transcribing complex patterns, how to get a good drum sound, recording and mixing techniques...). I could learn that from a workbook, but that would'nt be half as much fun. Maybe one or two more songs, and then I'll be off to something else (original songs/instrumentals too).

  • do you have any videos of you jamming out with the mandala pads...like original jam type of thing?

  • @mantra101 not yet... but it's a good idea! I'll think about it.

  • great man, great, your snare seems to be tuned mid to low, how you tune it?, can u explain?

  • @ricardoieci @ricardoieci yes, it's too low here. i crank it up much tighter now. my normal procedure is like this: turn the screws in by hand, until they just get a little bit of tension. then I turn them until they are rather tense, but not all the way yet. most of the time I turn one srew and then the one on the opposite side, then the next couple. for the finetuning i take a stick and hit the skin closely to each screw, just very lightly. that should make the same sound at each screw.

  • your the only person on youtube ive seent to actually pull off danny careys work bro, i really enjoyed watching this masterpiece, keep up the great work!

  • IS THAT DANNY'S SNARE?!!!

  • @ilikehockey13 Yes. But don't tell him, he probably wants it back.

  • I,m having some latency drivers with the tascam, i,ve tried asio4all, but it sounds even crappier, do you know how can i fix it?

  • Dude, it was perfect.

  • This was some excellent drumming! I wish I could do that... By the way, the first thing that came to mind when I first saw you was Lars Ulrich (even before I played the video).

  • did u get ur cymbals in a pack or were they all seperate?

  • @elconijo all separate, one by one when my old cymbals broke.

  • @thekillingjoke oh ok. jw cuz they are all the same model. anyways. beautiful cover my brother. kepp it up.

  • although it may look like it, I don't try to replicate dannys kit. If something makes sense to me, I occasionally pick up an idea of his (like the hihat position - very recommendable for this kind of music! - or the lifted ride position for practical reasons), other than that my setup hasn't really changed that much since the nineties. The mandalas and snare don't count. ;-)

But I'm no fan of having more cymbals, especially those tiny effect cymbals. I think I'll stick to this setup for now.

  • haha dude, you god almost the same aranged kit like danny, and is this even danny signatured snare? and i see the cymbals are the same, but you are missing a few if im not mistaking :P but anyhow great kit, great choice of song, great choice of drummer hero (danny :P)

  • u rock!!!! i love watching your vid´s..............and is big fun to play bass to your vid´s

  • this was fucking amazing man!!!

    |M| |M|

  • I really like your playing style.

  • how do you open the hi-hat when it is so far away?

  • @AlbinoJedi it's a cable hi-hat; the pedal is at the usual position and you can put the hats basically anywhere.

  • @thekillingjoke that's nifty. :)

  • Is that a Tama Brass Snare? I just got a DW Brass Snare and I am toying around with the heads. What kind of heads do you use? Reso and batter too, please?

Thanks man, sorry to be so inquisitive. Nicely done by the way.

  • That's a Sonor bronze snare. The batter head is a Remo Weatherking Emperor X and the resonance head is still the standard Sonor/Remo UT head that came with the snare.

  • Love the sound of that snare!

  • could you do Rosetta Stoned next?

  • it's on my list of things to do, but it may be a while, so don't hold your breath.

  • Wow i'm loving this!

  • yep this dude takes machine gun smith

    back to school

  • feels like i'm watching danny carey play this
