That being said, listening to Michael sing this is BREATHTAKING.

EVERYTHING about it. The skill of his vocals is unsurpassed; hitting the notes spot on, or sliding from note to note when he wanted added emphasis, the SOUL behind each note, ad libbing sounds and words from just sheer passion.... OW! OW! OW! OH YEAH! These kind of sounds later became signature sounds of Michael. He was honing them even then. Michael didn't sing "by the sheet music", he sang "by the heart".
