You guys could really stand to benefit from a science book. There are two types of nuclear weapons: fission and fusion.  Fission bombs (aka atomic bombs) split heavy atoms like Uranium or Plutonium to release energy. These were used in WWII. Fusion bombs (aka hydrogen bombs) release energy by joining hydrogen atoms together and weren't invented until post WWII. Fusion bombs use a fission bomb as a detonator. Now please, everyone do a little homework next time so you don't sound like retards.

i think your facts are wrong, hiroshima was the primary, it wasn't overshot, they dropped a bomb at hiroshima and then since the japanese didn't accept the american terms and give up they dropped another bomb, this time the primary was overcast, which was kokura and so they had to bomb their secondary, which was Nagasaki. They did not miss hiroshima, this bombing was 4 days after hiroshima was bombed

What are you talking about? We didn't even see the USSR as much of a threat until the 1950's. Japan DID NOT surrender before the bomb because the U.S. would never bomb a country they already had in submission. In fact, we never wanted to use the A-Bomb, it was a last resort. We didn't want to invade because it would cost millions of lives on both parties. Hiroshima lost only a few lives compared to what would have happened in a full out invasion.
