this is good but i wish someone would do a proper tutorial. everyone doing one on this song seems to rush it, and no one shows the picking pattern for the chorus which seems to change a little. it would be greatly appreciated if someone took the time to show in detail the chords and picking pattern

@lucyc66 the slapping is just every time you "flick" the strings, he does a flick/thumb slap with the song i believe, you can correct me if you think im wrong but im pretty dang sure

I think just because of this video, now I can play stop this train. THANKYOU!!! And btw, you dont strum with your index, you slap the base string with your thumb. But besides that, maybe you can do a video on the chords?

its almost right I think you slap your thumb at the same time as you flick down so when ever he says flick down slap your thumb at same time thanks for the pattern no one else explained that part as well

It sounds fine, but this is not the technique that JM uses. If you watch his performances, you can see that his right thumb STOPS on the string itself and his hand doesn't make a strumming downward motion.. Where you are strumming, he is SLAPPING the bass string. You still sound good.

What can I say...thanks for bringing out the train! Apparently this was what I needed to figure this out. And there I was going with the 'first learn Heart of Life' advice. Just have to get the thumb slapping properly. Thanks for a great vid, and just a little comment. I think it starts off with open 4th and 3rd fret 2nd string, in stead of open high e. Just my thought. Thanks!

but i am trying to learn how to flick, and im pretty sure i am doing it wrong because my fingers are all red and almost cut! :S lol Mayer flicks it and it seems like the music sound stops and it just makes a rhythm, do you know how to do that. Or am I crazy and is there supposed to be notes coming out the same time as the flick? And are you supposed to flick super hard, or not? thanks so much! :)
