Y Wings are not heavey Bombers they ae more like Heavey Fighters.

For me the B Wing is more a Bomber then the Y Wing the Y Wing is a mix.

Y-Wings are and always have been FIGHTERS.

They are commonly used as bombed for their high salvo capacity and because compared to the newer workhorse of the Alliance, the X-Wing, they are slower and unsuitable for frontline dogfighting.

I'm confused. Why did the the Rebels use Y-Wings in A NEw Hope for the trench run? Seriously their main goal was to get a torpedo down the shaft. Wouldn't A-wings be more suitable.

A-Wings dont carry torpedoes... Concussion missiles, they the equivalent to an air dominance fighter, not a bomber of any kind.

X-Wings are a Multirole Fighter and can carry either concussions or Protons

Y-Wings and B-Wings are heavy bombers and would have actually been better suited for the job, especially since the y-wing has a turret that could fire to the rear when the TIE's drop in behind.

Y-Wings need two pilots for that, one to operate the ion cannons at the rear. Thats in the two seater version. The one used in ANH were single seaters, and couldn't turn the Ion Cannons. Also, B-Wings and A-Wings had not been invented before ANH, and so couldn't be used. They first saw action in ROTJ.

Also, B-Wings are the Heavy Bombers, Y-Wings the Light bombers, as the Y-wings were obsolete by ANH. A-Wings are more fast pursuit, able to beat an interceptor on speed, but not on firepower.
