@TheSeanm102 God no, my memories of being 18 at the time seem like yesterday or last week ; incredible isn't it ? . I feel that the last 20 years went faster out of the 30, with the last 10 since 2001 gone in the blink of an eye. The 70s seemed to last forever for me !!
I was actually there when this was recorded, I worked for the beeb at the time and got my brother in the studio with my BBC ID card.
I tried looking for us on the video, we were stood on the right hand side of the stage but alas not...
We also saw U2 perform on the same stage that day doing 'fire', I believe it was their 1st TOTP appearance. Dave Lee Travis presented this show, I remember he had a belt on with a brass shaking hands buckle -
yeah i suppose your right ,when they atarted out they couldnt play at all they learnt as they went along and even to this day what they play ant complicated at all, nice feeling when u listen though

I always hated this band. White boys pretending to be black & blacks jumping on the bandwagon. Also a right bunch of misery guts who had no idea how to play their instruments. A bunch of wankers
@grahamblood you hate them so much that you take the time to log on and make a negative comment on a video you don't even want to watch? get f*cked b@stard!
I agree with civlyzed. By all means speak your mind but to be that sour is bizarre. Do they owe you money or something? Calm down and get the facts.
They weren't miserable - they were a bunch of mates who made their living through music - and they're still doing their thing today. That's the holy grail - getting paid for doing something that you love. You sound bitter so I doubt you've been that lucky.
my arms enfold the dole queue malnutrition dyes my hair.
the first song i heard that was socially aware. hope those days never return to ruin more young lives. for my money 'signing off 'was easily their best album followed by 'present arms', the later stuff was poppy trash that lost its reggae heart.
They are the greatest. There music is just simply timeless. I never tire of their songs. They never get old and seem to only get better the longer you listen to them. They are one of a kind
That's why UB40 are so popular in Jamaica briky71? And why they headlined the Reggae sunsplash music festival in Jamaica. I asked Ernest Ranglin what he thought of UB40 and he loves them, but you probably don't know who he is do you? Maybe you shouldn't comment when you know sweet fuck all.
being from a jah loving race of proud black people, i find the whole idea of these drop outs from some shitty place called birmingham grosly offensive. the fact that the singer looks like a gay man and is, even worse, white stands against all my religious beliefs that all non-black people should have the flesh skinned from their pathetic, devil loving bones and rot in hell, like the band UB40 o every time they open their stupid mouths and sing. peace to all.
