My female appears to be ready to spawn. She has the white tube, vertical stripes and a belly full of eggs. My male has built his bubble nest. I put them together and my female just hides in the plants and doesn't seem interested in the male at all. How long should I keep them together?

the spawn that my betta have morethan 250 fries but i dont see any of them that is abnormal.. and they grew in 7.8 gallon tank but the water i put in is was only about 5 gallons.. you may check my video of my 6 week old betta fry super red & lavander red CT..
i think why some of your betta is abnormal because you bred siblings.. that is why
looks like they all got spinal defects and these are not proper fry.You should start separating larger fry vs small. The larger fry are setting hormone for the small fry not to grow.Brine shrimp feeding has this retard affect on fry.Cause they eat some shells not hatched.I never used brine shrimp again! try other methods.I have to tell you but it's a secret. This batch is useless. What did you do to them?I feed mine to my oscar and cichlids.I see that 4 fry that be good quality.Wow.
I'm breeding some so I actually need some tips...I've been feeding them on infusoria and they look like they are ok... but i dont know when to change them from infusoria to another food and plus were I live we dont get bbs eegs nor microworms...what can i feed them??
BUT TRY TO FIND LIVE TUBIFEX COSE THEY MOVE AND THEY CAN RESIST ALIVE IN WATER 4 LONG TIME... BBS ARE BEST TILL -4-5- WEEKS OLD (this depense how ur frys grow...
they are suppose to be breedable at 3 months old. depends on the upkeep of your fish. I've heard some people breed successfully at 2.5 months old. Having said that most people breed at around the 4 month mark.
Nice young fish, well they do look behing in growth for real compared to your other fish. U have to becareful when breed sibblings for too many generations cause problems like slow growth and deformaties are a sign that your going over board. Trust me i know from experience when i use to breed guppies.
yeah your right about the line breeding. You will see deformaties as a sign of excessive line breeding, like excessive branchin and unaligned scaling. I would have to dissagree with you on the slow growth though. Couple of factors that can be present, this batch of fry i have over 100 in a 10 g. Where as my super reds i only had 60. Genetics could be a big part of it too, my parents of the super red are extremely huge. I would say they were almost 3 " in length, almost considered giant.
Well yah tank size is a factor but trust me slow growth is a sign of close breeding as well. Yeah I had a friend who use to have some jumbo betta with one veil that was 4.1" in body, he called him Big red but he was never a good father as he would eat the eggs and then he was stolen along with over 300 of his betta.
I'm not to worried about the growth rate. According to betta growth rate these are the size they should be at this age. As long as my fish don't look jacked up I'm coo with that. I have 4 black melano hm from this batch. Hopefully they are males because I have a super black hmpk female I can outcross them to.
Oh cool, unfortunately black betta are exceptional rare in my country and usually very expensive. I Hope there is a male out of the 4, have u ever cross breed between deferent species?
No, I haven't but I know people who do it all the time. The outcome will be all long tailed bettas but people cross those two so that the halfmoons could have stronger fins.
OH ok. Well when i use to breed i only had crown tails. Years ago my friend did it. he bought a yellow DT female as it was the first time DT were seen in my island so many years ago. The petshop man said they were HM females but when he breed the female to his steel blue HM male the male offspring end up with round paddle like tails with a slight point i the middle...i told him i felt the female was a DT veil and not HM. But my friend was just looking for the DT gene.
It took about 3 generation after before he started getting some nice looking DTHM bu unfortunatly they were also amongst the 300 that were stolen. man it broke his heart and he stopped keeping betta.
That sucks man, f3 takes a lot of work. About a year. He should definately get back into it sounds like he's good at breeding. This hobby is not for everyone. Takes experience and knowledge of the fish to be able to breed.
Yah he really did spend some time working on the DT gene. I ask him up to last night about starting back (he stopped in 2004) but the area he live ppl does like to steel anything they can and cause he has alot of fruit tree at him parros as we call them are always there steeling them. So he say in time when he move out n live somewhere better he'll not start back. Yes he was really good at breeding it was him who got my into it back in the day.
you sure there halfmoons? i see some double tails in there...

@mychael256 No, breeding siblings is beneficial. It produces better colors and finnage. It is fine to inbreed up to 6 times without any ill effects.

how did u get DT's in a hm spawn??
Youtub3Member1099 3 years ago
the parents have the dt gene. They don't show it but they have it
son303 3 years ago
DT's are used with HM so their they'll have a more wider cadual fin to match their anal fin. That's why sometimes breeding HM you'll get DT's.
Vanganator 3 years ago
Yup, that's true. They use it to extend their dorsal fins too.

i spot some double tails
Youtub3Member1099 3 years ago
yup I got a few dt's
son303 3 years ago

Youtub3Member1099 3 years ago
I dunno. They are like 2 weeks behind in growth but they are coloring up nicely.
