Here are some budget cuts I can think of off the top of my head:
- make medicare only for poor seniors, and increase the retirement age, considering the average lifetime of americans is longer now than in the 60's when it started. why should struggling workers have to pay for seniors worth hundreds of thousands?
- make social security only for poor seniors (and increase the retirement age as above)
- find massive defense cuts. we spend about as much as the rest of the world. cut it.
if tax cuts are so bad, why do liberals support cutting taxes on most americans? wouldn't they benefit from all the good that gov't will do with the money from increased taxes on them? they're so transparent it isn't even funny. it's vacuous populism.
yeah, cuz al we need to do to pay down 15 trillion dollars worth of debt is tax the rich.. the logic, or lack thereof, from the libtards is astounding.. what happened to them in their youth that made them so stupid i wonder? how about we try cutting govt spending and getting rid of useless depts like the dept of edu or dept of labor?? fkn idiots
@jtpurser oh, neoclassical version of economics. He is right in the fact we need to keep taxes low on business's, but Paul is using the possibility of job loss within business's that are filing on personal income of the owner as why we should not raise taxes on the wealthy. Paul ryans message is taxing = loss of small business jobs. correct to a certain extent, but maybe instead of working completely against a raise in taxes he could help create a solution to exclude those people. So I dislike
ATTENTION: GUESS WHAT More then 70% of what is Small Businesses in America is one or two persons. THey don't hire other employees, and Paul Ryan and the rest of the GOP know this. The 1% are not job creators, they are job destroyers. Paul Ryan is a lier......
@galleryhall Try spelling liar...FOOL!...if you cannot even spell a simple word why should anyone believe you??......proof is 67% of small businesses hire more when taxes are cut....FACT.....
@galleryhall Why not try mentioning barak hussain obama as being a liar and anti-American when you on the subject of calling good Americans such as Ryan crazy.....who takes two years to produce a "valid" birth certificate????....a liar who has to search for the truth!....
Ryan is doing the dirty work of the RNC. Keep it up Pauly, keep up the GOP's war on the middle class just like the RNC and the Koch Bros. tell you to. What an azzhole!
Interesting interview....Ryan gave some great information and breaks it down, but the other Congressman seems to just give talking points and not really any details. You'd get the same amount of info giving a ham sandwich airtime.
Most of the time it's pretty clear that Chris Matthews is not listening. His fantasy is clearly a show where he's talking into a mirror, and even then he'd interrupt himself and not let himself talk.
Sure there are "market imperfections" but top this off with government regulations that strangles development, then what do you have? We have all sorts of regulations already to correct the corruptions and the imperfection of capitalism. The philosophy is simple but not perfect. What makes you think that the government can do a better job at correcting the market when they were the creator of these mess? You still say that the gov't is the solution?
If I am making 40K and you are making 15K, the tax rate for this category is 10%. I am paying $4,000 and you'll be paying $1,500. With that math of course, I am paying heck of a lot more taxes than you. However, you forget to understand our tax system, you belong in the 48% of citizens that do not pay taxes. What needs to happen is improve, and get a better paying job so that you can start contributing.
Paul Ryan is smarter than majority of liberals around. He is smarter than 100 of the liberals that responds on youtube, simply by reading their comments. No one will think of you as crazy if you go from Liberal to conservative, but from conservative to Liberal?! Well something happened to you that gave you the liberal disorder. It's just unheard of.
@kemalcs What exactly are taxes in the first place? Why even are we concerned how much the government should be able to keep from OUR hard earned money? What is the role of government? The facts are quite obvious, you have people who want entitlements because they think they deserve it, or it is their rights to have "equality". Yet there is a difference between "equal results" vs "equal opportunity". 48% of the citizens in the U.S. does not pay taxes. You can write a check to the gov't
@Tribonatin I just wanted to show that decreasing tax will not increase revenue (unless extreme conditions such as unregistered economy is too high etc..and US do not have those conditions)
Why do we need taxes is equal to why do we need a state at all. It creates the environment that you can make money. If you convince police, judges etc work for free or roads can be built for free. If you think that our food and drug do not have to be controled. OK, don't tax anyone.
@Tribonatin Helping poor people is actually good for economy. Poor people do not pay income tax but they pay more consumption tax. If you have money, you have two options. You etiher consume it or you either save it. Consumption / Income rate is called as MPC.
Poor people's MPC are 1. They spend all their money. Spending means consumption, consumption increases production.
@Tribonatin I think deep down assumption is that "market can correct everything", which I agree to a point. It solves many problems but not big problems. But history of economy science is the history of understanding "why market fails and what to do for prevent it". These are called as market imperfections.
There are lots of issues that market fails or market do not give a damn about it.
Lol. Liberals are so out of touch. Where are you people getting your facts? The U.S. has been on top of the economic chart for one reason, that is Capitalism works? It is the most humane and prosperous system there could ever be. The philosophy of a Republic and capitalism is by no means perfect, but it is better for humanity. A Tax cuts brings in more revenue. You know why? People have more money to do business, hire, spend, etc.. More people working, more people pay taxes.
Please,to all the republicans who use fourth grade labels like obamatard and words like that. And especially the ones who don't have a clue what government actually does, and couldn't repeat actual facts if their life depended on it-keep speaking-louder if you like.Scare the shit out of all the educated independent voters, and put that last nail in your parties coffin. We couldn't buy this kind of advertising with the entire Koch fortune, thanks!
@sf10231016 I guess you are referring to the "educated independent" who voted for BO. Education does not give you wisdom. I don't think Liberals are capable of logical thinking or the mere use of common sense. You do not need education to tell you what is wrong and what is right, what is working and what is not. Simple as that. No need to make it difficult. Life is as complicated and unfair as is already. Feeling about it doesn't solve the problem. Mistakes by action and correcting them does.
Liberals have no wisdom at all. He didn't try to dismiss Ryan's question, he was confused... they have no answer for reality. Relying on feelings are not facts you can seriously address. These morons talk about 1%, these individuals who make the 1% are the ones that makes $380,000 gross income.
Chris, math is tough. Don't attempt to sound smart when you know you have someone smarter than you in the room.
@Tribonatin It's conervatives who have no sense of reality. Example? Trickle down and cuuting taxes were never meant to create jobs. Just give tax cuts for the rich. Reagan's budget director called trickle down a trojan horse. CBo said that Obama extending the tax cuts, caused a billion dollar increase in the debt.
@jrwel14 Tell me exactly why it does not create jobs? 50% of the people in the U.S. does not pay taxes. 38% pay at least 17% taxes, and 12% pay 30-38% taxes. How much do you want the 12% to pay? Hell, I'm not paying for your sorry azz to lay around and play xbox all day with your kids. Nothing wrong with competitiveness to enhance one's condition in life. Logic escapes you because all you see is "cuts". It feels wrong, doesn't it? Opportunities are out there. Go out there and take it.
@Tribonatin MOst people pay taxes of some kind. The top 2-5% pay most of the taxes. Because they make most of the money. Not, because they are taxed more. You are a fool. Thinking that all Liberals don't work! History has shown that lower taxes HAS NEVER created jobs. The last time the GOP had a balanced budget was in 1956 with 91% rates and the Federal Highway Act.
You just watched what happens when GOTCHA journalism meets responsible conservative ideals. Paul Ryan eviscerates smarmy Chris Matthews. Unfortunately it's not tit for tat in this game. We all lose....
ya listen to the repub and listen to the dem...who really knows what he's talkin about? the dem guy just said a bunch of general crap...no spcifics...the repub dude laid out nothing but specifics and id bet could address them all if given the chance..oh ya matthews is a lib progressive hack who doesnt really understand this crap
Matthews has gone full retard. He asks Ryan why he is not cutting spending on Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. Now, when a conservative mentions fixing one of those programs they make commercials about pushing senior citizens off of cliffs in a wheelchair. He also has a little trouble with his math. Time for Obama to go the way of the buffalo, and get a black man with some common sense in the white house, Herman Cain.
The Republican/Tea Party Regime is essentially a terrorist organization and should be dealt with the same way the US deals with other terrorist regimes. Our country is in a downward spiral
@michaelteigen The tea party is a terrorist organization? Really? That's an incredibly large claim there; you better have facts to back it up? The irony is that you advocate "handling the tea party" like other terrorists regimes, which would mean jail them or kill them...so who is the real terrorist here? Who is the one who is really against freedom? Our country is in a downward spiral because of government spending. When the gov. gets too involved, bad things happen. History has proven this...
@michaelteigen Wow, did you get your marching orders from Obama directly? I mean, he just assassinated an American citizen w/o due process, so by that standard he has a right now to claim that the tea party is now a terrorist organization and kill them with predator drone missiles? You are as brainwashed as it comes.
@michaelteigen OWS are what then? Tea Party and OWS are Day and Night in comparison. TP are actually people who have woken up to the fact that this gov't have encroached too deeply in to their very liberties this country have enjoyed and been protecting from regimes and individuals who despise this system. OWS are a bunch of airheads people who are being used by other entities promoting their own selfish agenda. Entities who are socialist, communist in ideology. No good came of these system.
man joe crowey sounds like he has a huge cock in his mouth with that taxing the rich, man all i hear is him slobbering over the rick getting tax cuts, gooooooolly!
Chris Matthews *burb*...used to work for Jimmy Carter as a speech writer. It's hard to believe with how much he slobbers and slurs his way through his show.
I love how MSLSD puts the static "Tax break for the wealthy?" Gee, class warfare anyone? No....it's not that, Obama told us so.
I can't stand Chris Matthew's style, he NEVER shuts up, shouts over his guests and doesn't let people answer the questions properly. If anything he's as bad or worse than that consummate douchebag Bill O'Reilly.
So many are blatantly and willfully supporting people like Paul Ryan despite the fact that they have had a minimum of 18 years exposure to reality before they are allowed to vote. I don't get it. Is mental retardation far more widespread than was previously thought? IT'S AN EPIDEMIC!!!
RYAN is a LIAR. He already said he wants to GUT Social Security and DESTROY Medicare. The word REFORM... is quickly followed by UNSUSTAINABLE, when a Republican talks. THEY WILL END BOTH THESE PROGRAMS, period. Ryan has said, IF YOU ARE 55 OR OLDER, you are fine. But if you're 55 or YOUNGER, you will GET SCREWED. This is NOT a LEGISLATOR. This is THE DEVIL. He wanted to MURDER millions of Seniors, bankrupting them, and then having them die in wards. PATHETIC. Really a pathetic man.
Wow look at Ryan appealing to the middle class making them feel rich. We need to raise taxes on the richest, close capitol gains loopholes, and end our governments insistence on this constant credit and war lifestyle.
What we don't need right now is austerity, and to have OUR MONEY STOLEN FROM US REP RYAN. GET YOUR HANDS OUT OF SS AND MEDICARE. Paul Ryan = Corporate Wall St. sellout.
Paul Ryan is totally right. If you increase a millionaire "small" business owner's top marginal tax rate by 3.9%, instead of hiring another employee to meet all that insatiable demand out there in this booming economy, he'll instead hoard money so he can still afford that 3 week vacation in Tuscany. If you give that money back to the "job-creators" they will hire millions more employees to produce all those goods and services that no one's demanding. It's simple economics!
tHESE TWO LIBERAL IDIOTS ARE LYING. way to go Paul Ryan. All liberals have to lie to try and get their points across.Chris matthews is a fuckin dumbass. And all liberals are narrow minded bigots!!
Matthews and Crowley vs. Ryan isn't fair. I think Matthews needs to bring in an entire team of Economists to level the playing field. I mean really, he made them both look like total idiots! No wonder MSNBC is tanking!
Using the word 'progressive' to describe Mathews and his ilk is misleading to say the least, but then, when a beautiful word such a 'gay' was also corrupted to describe unnatural filth; the use of an other wonderful word 'progressive' to describe clowns all begins to make sense.
You have to be an ass to be able to show up to work after being made to look like an idiot time and time again. Usually, life lessons like this would make you realize that you DON'T know everything. But Chris Mathews shows up after being schooled like this and opens his mouth just as wide as before. Seeming to forget what just happened to him.
Matthews gets that condescending look on his face when Ryan answers his first question. You can practically see him dismissing Ryan's answer as talking points. Talking points? Just listen to the crap Crowley is barfing up. Ryan would whip any Democrat on the topic of economics. He's smart and well prepared. Chris tries to trip him up by asking about discretionary spending cuts - and then complains that he didn't address entitlements. What a joke.
@klrdotorg You can love that progressive hating bible nut hugging pussy all you want. But the fact is this mother fucker only cares about the rich. And apparently so do you.
Somebody ought to tell this Socialist scumbag, Chris Matthews, that the most fundamental right of all, after the right to life, is the right to KEEP WHAT YOU EARN! And anyone who goes into a voting booth and votes for politicians who promise to steal from one group for the benefit of another is no better than a thief himself.
@ptbwf LOL your funny. hook, line, and sinker! no country has every cut their way to a good economy.Ryan is a corporate Big money shill. Patiots pay their fair share of taxes!
Tax corporations so they do not get away with no taxation. The Citizens for Tax Justice put out a report recently with that 12 major corporations like Honeywell, Verizon, General Electric, and in three years, they made $167 billion in profit, paid zero in taxes, and got $2.5 billion back from the treasury. Solution to Debt Crisis is to End Corporate Welfare and Corporate Tax Loopholes -- youtube . com/watch?v=wbMifGKH -- DemocracyNow . org
Yeah, a "pay - go" system, "pay" for it with borrowed money, then tell the american people to "go" to hell, that's the democrats version of "pay - go". What a joke!
The best part is that Obama ended up opposing HIS OWN DEBT COMMISSION that Tingles actually tries to attack Ryan on!
Second best part: Early in the video, when Tingles says, "Let me ask you a question," and then proceeds to say what he wants to say and never asks a question....
@thhhegame33 I like when people like you follow politics and make connections rather than repeating headlines and bumper stickers like a broken record player.
Doesn't anyone remember that in December that Obama and the Dems, in their final outgoing legislation, cut 500 billion from medicare? who is it, exactly who wants the elderly to die?
i love how every answer paul ryan gave, Chris matthews didn't want to hear it or even care, no wonder he is on the least watched show on the least watched cable network, eat shit and die liberals
The Democratic congressman didn't even mention any specifics on how to reduce the debt and Chris Matthews never pursued him on the matter. I hope he can't afford a competent cardiologist.
The one good thing about Ryan's budget proposal is that it will put a lot of right wingers out of thier jobs and homes. They'll have to move in with the kids who won't have jobs either. Many will die from lack of proper affordable health care. I'm all for that.
@Lllburns Despite your ignorance to economics and reality, Paul Ryan has patience for you and will help you. I've seen him be patient and kind to dozens of ignorant representatives before you. He is obviously economically brilliant and yet some people like you still insist on cutting your own throats when Ryan would only help you. I'll never understand why people insist on siding with someone like Obama just "because", even when he would steal your children's future livelihoods.
The ONLY way to bring jobs back to America is to lower the minimum wage to $2/hr.
This is the only way we can compete with China. Paul Ryan and my fellow republicans need to act on this now. Employers also should not have to carry the burdern of paying for health care either. Go get em Paul!
Ryan wants to give MORE tax breaks to the rich so they can build more factories overseas. This is a continuation of the Bush years where 8 million jobs were
outsourced. If this nigger has his way none of us will have jobs, health care, or social security! America deserves better!
Ryan and the GOP believe in choices!! That's right-if they have their way senior citizens will have to make lots of choices - one choice they'll have to make will be between health care and food! SUCKERS!!!
RepubliCONS are idiots and I have the videos to prove it. Their a bunch of nuts that constantly mislead the public and get their facts wrong. Talk about hypocrites, these morons freak out about Obama wanting to go back to the same tax rates we had under their hero Reagen. When was the last time a repug balanced the budget? The economy always does better when we have a democrat in office. Trickle down economics doesn't work. Repugs have the wackiest people in their party. What a joke they are!
@EsotericOccultist At some point you need to turn off MSNBC and maybe find a place for accurate information. Reagan (please note the spelling) took taxes on the top tax bracket from 70% down to 28% far below what it is today. What you hear on MSNBC is an average, not Reagan's plan. It took his whole presidency but he was able to drop the top tax rate by 42%.
@EsotericOccultist Second, you need a civics lesson. No legislation, including the budget, originates from the President. The president can propose a budget, but the actual budget is created and passed first by the House of Representatives. From there it goes to the Senate and then to the President. Please check your history to see what party controlled the House from 1998 - 2001 during the last balanced budget.
@EsotericOccultist Finally, try reading up on economics. One of the aspects that drastically helped increase revenue in the Clinton era was....gasp.....cutting the capital gains task by 8 percent (done in 1997). Where do you think most "rich" people get their money? Warren Buffet makes only a small percent of his money by his salary. Most of it comes from investments, in other words capital gains. So essentially, it was a tax cut for the rich.
@EsotericOccultist In fact, revenue under Clinton's last 4 years, after dropping the capital gains tax, was 7.1 trillion. In his first 4, prior to dropping the CG rate, it was 5.2 trillion. Increased revenue with a lower tax rate, imagine that. Please feel free to check the numbers, I pulled them from the White House website today.
It's been said that 50% of social security recipients are not poor, have money saved, and could live a decent life without SS. The fact that we force the poor to pay into this scheme so the affluent or wealthy are subsidized is appalling. Both parties tricked the poor to support poverty driving policies. Around 2/3rds of unemployment recipients would be able to live with their money saved up as well.
I should be thanking liberals for making the wealthier richer from the backs of the poor.
A progressive income tax is one of the ten planks of Communism. The democrats are the closest thing this country has to communists. Ans somebody teach Chris Matthews how to add. I know he's a stupid man but I didn't think he was that stupid. Well, I guess I was wrong, he is that stupid.
I don't know why he keeps doing this. Paul Ryan was exposed as a chalaton huckser who was posing as an economist by Paul Krugman. His so called "Roadmap" only has 13 co-sponsors and it is regarded as a fraud by every serious economist. Knobody in there right mind wants to turn Medicare into a vaucher program and Social Security given to Wall St.
Paul Ryan is full of more shit than a Monsanto factory farm.
@genYprogressive -I'll put a years salary on Ryan destroying Krugman...or any other liberal you put in front of him in a debate. Watch and learn...he will be eating the liberal lunch in the coming years lol.
@steelersX01 Debunking Ryans "Roadmap" is very easy. He wants to use Medicare payments as 11K vouchers for people to buy private insurance. OK take a 65 year old in average health on our current drug plan that he helped create. I promise you it will cost ALOT more than 11K.
@steelersX01 I serioudly hope you are joking. You alredy lost that one. Paul Krugaman would kill him. Watch the video of Debbie Wasserman Shults skewer him on his Roadmap when he says he wants an Adult Conversation. All he did was keep repeting talking points because he couldn't bullshit his way out of the debate. Also read the TPM interview when Ezra Klein babecued Paul Ryan on the "Roadmap" because Klein is not the Fox News water boy he is use to.
@steelersX01 libtards cant debate issues..they cant debate COMMON sense and come out ahead,,so they ATTACK the messenger like fox news...a great example is BEBENIC on this thred...be patient 2012 is comming soon
because of guys like BECK,,Obama has been exposed for what he is..thus the SJHALLACKIN in the midterm..wait it out and keep exposing the empty suited con man for what he is..
"if they had just worked hard and save" typical repug response. my grandparents grew up in farms and ranches during the depression. they like many others lived hand to mouth for decades. where were they supposed to get money to invest? many of their children fought in ww2, korea, and vietnam and came home to nothing but inequality and disdain. my father, wearing his army uniform, went to a restaurant in el paso of all places and was refused service for being mexican.
@bebenic In November 2010 we (the rich uncaring bigots) will be voting your generous liberal friends out, so that they can quit throwing away the money they steal from us in taxes, and then in 2012 Obama will finish his only term if he does not get impeached before then.
@panhandlepatriots well, let's take one election cycle at a time, ok? no need to be hasty. the tea-baggers did not do as well as they expected tuesday. as to the impeachment of obama, don't hold your breath. if dubya didn't get impeached and he and cheney weren't charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity, i think obama is safe.
I think i should just re-iterate bebenic's reference to the Great Depression. Your emphasis on individual responsibility is laudable, but foolish without common preparation (welfare) for individual and social contingencies. If you don't know anyone who has experienced problems which require such assistance, then perhaps you should get out more. In that way, you might find the spending on social services might trouble you less.
@quintvantage your emphasis on collective responsibility is laudable and very foolish. what's the difference between coming to my house asking for money vs taxing me for it? what's the difference? force. taxation is forced charity, which is no charity at all. if individual responsibility was stressed more often in this country you would find a lot less people depending on social services.
if an individual fails, only the individual feels it. if the collective fails, everyone feels it.
@tmac9938 Most of what you say makes only a little sense. Some of it is based on basic misunderstanding of the benefits of organised government spending. Hint: it's not altruism or charity.
The old 'individual responsibility' chestnut makes me laugh, but sad at the same time. Please look into the concept more. Or try living on a desert island by yourself for a few years. Ha!
@quintvantage the whole "individual responsibility" chesnut is kinda how the world works, my friend. since humans began. and will continue till the end. avoiding it in any manner will only be temporary because eventually reality sets back in to it's natural state - caring for yourself and family, and then whatever you have left over for neighbors and then to complete strangers. individual responsibility is unavoidable, because it's natural, except when undone by an unnatural force (government).
@tmac9938 Yes, people have responsibilities to themselves and perhaps, as you suggest, to their family, or maybe even strangers. That's nice that we can agree. Of course I was only referring to the rhetoric of 'individual responsibility' which is used to justify cuts in spending funding for social programs aimed at poor people. (never at banks of course!)
Perhaps we can also agree that everyone benefits from collective action. For example, the roads that you probably drive on were designed and built with through social (collective) action. Even if you don't drive on them personally, the food that you buy at the store most certainly has been delivered on those roads.
Only eventual massive public spending by Roosevelt and later the second world war got the US and the rest of the world out of it.
Maybe I'm going a bit too far for you, but I hope we can agree now that public spending on individuals in society (who constitute a class of people) benefits the society as a whole.
Letting a class of people fall into desperate poverty brings down the society as a whole. Not just morally or aesthetically, but fiscally!
@quintvantage that roosevelt argument is a historical myth. we got out of the depression DESPITE roosevelt and WW-II. that's how powerful free markets are. think about what happened. the government sucked up 10's of billions of dollars and spent it on non-return investments such as public works and war. we didnt get that money back. no wealth was created, it was destroyed on non-productive things. yet when the soldiers returned, women were more skilled and factories were re-tooled. thats it.
What you're saying contradicts every major economic text ever written on the subject with the exception of about three or four widely discredited books written by Cato institute types who do silly things like count WPA workers as unemployed and such to attempt to support the thesis you're referring to.. It's obvious that you have an interest in this stuff, but you should dig a little deeper.
@quintvantage my response to "every major economic text..." is the authors of every single one of those books never saw 2008 coming. these are the types that feel stimulus and bailouts are necessary. not including bush's 6 trillion hole, 14 trillion dollars later, where are we? it's all a farce. the message of free markets is coming back.
speaking of, the WPA *are* unemployed. they are essentially ghosts. you can see them but they're not real. those jobs dont exist without taxpayer money. fake.
@tmac9938 They did see it coming, that's why they regulated banking with the Glass Steigal act, a regulation that protected the economy for 75 years.
Yes, Bush's spending increases were nuts, but mainly because they were simultaneous with tax cuts, which provided revenue to the previously decreasing debt.
As for public sector jobs being fake. It is easily disproved: Public sector employees buy food and pay rent or mortgages and go on vacation.
@quintvantage good points. however, glass-steagall was put in place to regulate what banks did with their deposits (i.e. investment banks). the problem is, you only need glass steagall because the FDIC exists. people dont care what banks do with their deposits because they are $100k insured with the FDIC. therefore you need an artificial regulation to regulate the artifical distortion of the FDIC. no FDIC = no glass steagall = no need for fake protection for 75 yrs. gov't guarantees are bad.
@tmac9938 Your FDIC/Glass Steagall argument rest on 2 assumptions, 1. large scale markets are ultimately rational, and 2.consumer power is organised and equal to corporate power. neither is true.
To achieve your independent ideal, why don't you move to an island where you will have no government but your own? as well, you never responded to my accusations that you are a road and internet using socialist!
@quintvantage "it is easily disproved" can be easily disproved. public sector (i.e. tax payer funded salaries) produce no net gain for the economy. what happens is the gov't sucks money out of the private sector, to pay hand-picked public sector folks, who then spend it (or hopefully invest) back into the private economy. the private economy has no net gain. the gov't gains because it collects taxes on every end of the transaction. so the private market loses on public jobs. unnatural jobs man.
@tmac9938 Your argument strangely omits the fact that productive economic activity has occurred. There has been a movement of capital, yes,but also production of products and services. The benefit of these remain as added value. (for example, roads, or murals, or social work which improves the quality of life for workers, and ultimately their productivity and contribution to the GDP.
@quintvantage "productive public economic activity has occured." ok, besides shiny new bridges and dams, what did we gain as a return on our investment?
FDIC/Steagall:1. the internet is a large scale economy, currently 99% unregulated (albeit invented by gov't), and the sky hasnt yet fallen. 2. competitors to iphones prove consumer power exists. we dont have to be organized. it isnt a collective consumer, its independent consumers that purchase things. if we had no power the iphone would rule.
@tmac9938 Re: 'what did we gain' If you can't understand the economic benefit of bridges and dams I cannot help you.
As to your example of the internet as unregulated, the opposite is true. Please see 'common carrier regulation.' Regulation makes the internet what it is. As for financial or consumer protection regulation, it has the same Fed regs as any commercial venture.
I don't understand your iPhone idea... Are you saying Apple doesn't rule the world?
Republicans are so out of touch with reality.

- find massive defense cuts. we spend about as much as the rest of the world. cut it.

Tribonatin 3 months ago
If I am making 40K and you are making 15K, the tax rate for this category is 10%. I am paying $4,000 and you'll be paying $1,500. With that math of course, I am paying heck of a lot more taxes than you. However, you forget to understand our tax system, you belong in the 48% of citizens that do not pay taxes. What needs to happen is improve, and get a better paying job so that you can start contributing.
Tribonatin 3 months ago
Paul Ryan is smarter than majority of liberals around. He is smarter than 100 of the liberals that responds on youtube, simply by reading their comments. No one will think of you as crazy if you go from Liberal to conservative, but from conservative to Liberal?! Well something happened to you that gave you the liberal disorder. It's just unheard of.
Tribonatin 3 months ago
Very simple math..
Suppose that entire taxable income is 100. And tax rate is %10. Then government revenue is 10.
Then you decided to decrease tax from %10 to %9. If the economy keeps at same size. Your revenue is 9.
But you believe that if we decrease tax, the economy will grow so we won't have revenue loss.
To balance revenue loss, your income must increase to 111.11.. so increase %11 percent growth for %1 percent decrease in tax.
kemalcs 3 months ago
@kemalcs What exactly are taxes in the first place? Why even are we concerned how much the government should be able to keep from OUR hard earned money? What is the role of government? The facts are quite obvious, you have people who want entitlements because they think they deserve it, or it is their rights to have "equality". Yet there is a difference between "equal results" vs "equal opportunity". 48% of the citizens in the U.S. does not pay taxes. You can write a check to the gov't
Tribonatin 3 months ago
@Tribonatin I just wanted to show that decreasing tax will not increase revenue (unless extreme conditions such as unregistered economy is too high etc..and US do not have those conditions)
Why do we need taxes is equal to why do we need a state at all. It creates the environment that you can make money. If you convince police, judges etc work for free or roads can be built for free. If you think that our food and drug do not have to be controled. OK, don't tax anyone.
kemalcs 3 months ago
@Tribonatin Helping poor people is actually good for economy. Poor people do not pay income tax but they pay more consumption tax. If you have money, you have two options. You etiher consume it or you either save it. Consumption / Income rate is called as MPC.
Poor people's MPC are 1. They spend all their money. Spending means consumption, consumption increases production.
kemalcs 3 months ago
@Tribonatin Suppose that my income is 15K per year. And your income is 40K. And tax rate is 10 percent.
I spent all my money. So I am paying 1500 for tax. Which makes my effective tax rate is %10.
But you spent only 30K money. So you pay 3000 for tax. 3000/45000 = %6.7
kemalcs 3 months ago
@Tribonatin I think deep down assumption is that "market can correct everything", which I agree to a point. It solves many problems but not big problems. But history of economy science is the history of understanding "why market fails and what to do for prevent it". These are called as market imperfections.
There are lots of issues that market fails or market do not give a damn about it.
kemalcs 3 months ago
Paul Ryan wants to go to the pre-depression tax rates. People should teach HIM economics! All conservatives have failed in that regard.

Tribonatin 3 months ago

sf10231016 3 months ago
@sf10231016 I guess you are referring to the "educated independent" who voted for BO. Education does not give you wisdom. I don't think Liberals are capable of logical thinking or the mere use of common sense. You do not need education to tell you what is wrong and what is right, what is working and what is not. Simple as that. No need to make it difficult. Life is as complicated and unfair as is already. Feeling about it doesn't solve the problem. Mistakes by action and correcting them does.
Tribonatin 3 months ago
Liberals have no wisdom at all. He didn't try to dismiss Ryan's question, he was confused... they have no answer for reality. Relying on feelings are not facts you can seriously address. These morons talk about 1%, these individuals who make the 1% are the ones that makes $380,000 gross income.
Chris, math is tough. Don't attempt to sound smart when you know you have someone smarter than you in the room.
Tribonatin 4 months ago
@Tribonatin It's conervatives who have no sense of reality. Example? Trickle down and cuuting taxes were never meant to create jobs. Just give tax cuts for the rich. Reagan's budget director called trickle down a trojan horse. CBo said that Obama extending the tax cuts, caused a billion dollar increase in the debt.
jrwel14 4 months ago
@jrwel14 Tell me exactly why it does not create jobs? 50% of the people in the U.S. does not pay taxes. 38% pay at least 17% taxes, and 12% pay 30-38% taxes. How much do you want the 12% to pay? Hell, I'm not paying for your sorry azz to lay around and play xbox all day with your kids. Nothing wrong with competitiveness to enhance one's condition in life. Logic escapes you because all you see is "cuts". It feels wrong, doesn't it? Opportunities are out there. Go out there and take it.
Tribonatin 3 months ago
@Tribonatin MOst people pay taxes of some kind. The top 2-5% pay most of the taxes. Because they make most of the money. Not, because they are taxed more. You are a fool. Thinking that all Liberals don't work! History has shown that lower taxes HAS NEVER created jobs. The last time the GOP had a balanced budget was in 1956 with 91% rates and the Federal Highway Act.

If you give that money back to the "job-creators" they will hire millions more employees to produce all those goods and services that no one's demanding. It's simple economics!

It took his whole presidency but he was able to drop the top tax rate by 42%.
rakuck 10 months ago

rakuck 10 months ago
@EsotericOccultist Second, you need a civics lesson. No legislation, including the budget, originates from the President. The president can propose a budget, but the actual budget is created and passed first by the House of Representatives. From there it goes to the Senate and then to the President. Please check your history to see what party controlled the House from 1998 - 2001 during the last balanced budget.
rakuck 10 months ago
@EsotericOccultist Finally, try reading up on economics. One of the aspects that drastically helped increase revenue in the Clinton era was....gasp.....cutting the capital gains task by 8 percent (done in 1997). Where do you think most "rich" people get their money? Warren Buffet makes only a small percent of his money by his salary. Most of it comes from investments, in other words capital gains. So essentially, it was a tax cut for the rich.
rakuck 10 months ago
@EsotericOccultist In fact, revenue under Clinton's last 4 years, after dropping the capital gains tax, was 7.1 trillion. In his first 4, prior to dropping the CG rate, it was 5.2 trillion. Increased revenue with a lower tax rate, imagine that. Please feel free to check the numbers, I pulled them from the White House website today.

The fact that we force the poor to pay into this scheme so the affluent or wealthy are subsidized is appalling. Both parties tricked the poor to support poverty driving policies.

Roadmap Debunked.

I will donate you salery to Wikileaks

"if they had just worked hard and save" typical repug response. my grandparents grew up in farms and ranches during the depression. they like many others lived hand to mouth for decades. where were they supposed to get money to invest? many of their children fought in ww2, korea, and vietnam and came home to nothing but inequality and disdain. my father, wearing his army uniform, went to a restaurant in el paso of all places and was refused service for being mexican.

@bebenic In November 2010 we (the rich uncaring bigots) will be voting your generous liberal friends out, so that they can quit throwing away the money they steal from us in taxes, and then in 2012 Obama will finish his only term if he does not get impeached before then.
panhandlepatriots 1 year ago 15

In that way, you might find the spending on social services might trouble you less.
quintvantage 1 year ago
@quintvantage your emphasis on collective responsibility is laudable and very foolish. what's the difference between coming to my house asking for money vs taxing me for it? what's the difference? force. taxation is forced charity, which is no charity at all. if individual responsibility was stressed more often in this country you would find a lot less people depending on social services.
if an individual fails, only the individual feels it. if the collective fails, everyone feels it.
tmac9938 11 months ago
@tmac9938 Most of what you say makes only a little sense. Some of it is based on basic misunderstanding of the benefits of organised government spending. Hint: it's not altruism or charity.
The old 'individual responsibility' chestnut makes me laugh, but sad at the same time. Please look into the concept more. Or try living on a desert island by yourself for a few years. Ha!
Your last sentence makes sense. Congratulations.

@quintvantage the whole "individual responsibility" chesnut is kinda how the world works, my friend. since humans began. and will continue till the end. avoiding it in any manner will only be temporary because eventually reality sets back in to it's natural state - caring for yourself and family, and then whatever you have left over for neighbors and then to complete strangers. individual responsibility is unavoidable, because it's natural, except when undone by an unnatural force (government).
tmac9938 5 months ago
@tmac9938 Yes, people have responsibilities to themselves and perhaps, as you suggest, to their family, or maybe even strangers. That's nice that we can agree. Of course I was only referring to the rhetoric of 'individual responsibility' which is used to justify cuts in spending funding for social programs aimed at poor people. (never at banks of course!)
quintvantage 5 months ago
@tmac9938
Perhaps we can also agree that everyone benefits from collective action. For example, the roads that you probably drive on were designed and built with through social (collective) action. Even if you don't drive on them personally, the food that you buy at the store most certainly has been delivered on those roads.

It's obvious that you have an interest in this stuff, but you should dig a little deeper.
quintvantage 5 months ago
@quintvantage my response to "every major economic text..." is the authors of every single one of those books never saw 2008 coming. these are the types that feel stimulus and bailouts are necessary. not including bush's 6 trillion hole, 14 trillion dollars later, where are we? it's all a farce. the message of free markets is coming back.
speaking of, the WPA *are* unemployed. they are essentially ghosts. you can see them but they're not real. those jobs dont exist without taxpayer money. fake.
tmac9938 5 months ago
@tmac9938 They did see it coming, that's why they regulated banking with the Glass Steigal act, a regulation that protected the economy for 75 years.
Yes, Bush's spending increases were nuts, but mainly because they were simultaneous with tax cuts, which provided revenue to the previously decreasing debt.
As for public sector jobs being fake. It is easily disproved: Public sector employees buy food and pay rent or mortgages and go on vacation.
quintvantage 5 months ago
@quintvantage good points. however, glass-steagall was put in place to regulate what banks did with their deposits (i.e. investment banks). the problem is, you only need glass steagall because the FDIC exists. people dont care what banks do with their deposits because they are $100k insured with the FDIC. therefore you need an artificial regulation to regulate the artifical distortion of the FDIC. no FDIC = no glass steagall = no need for fake protection for 75 yrs. gov't guarantees are bad.
tmac9938 5 months ago
@tmac9938 Your FDIC/Glass Steagall argument rest on 2 assumptions, 1. large scale markets are ultimately rational, and 2.consumer power is organised and equal to corporate power. neither is true.
To achieve your independent ideal, why don't you move to an island where you will have no government but your own? as well, you never responded to my accusations that you are a road and internet using socialist!
quintvantage 5 months ago
@quintvantage "it is easily disproved" can be easily disproved. public sector (i.e. tax payer funded salaries) produce no net gain for the economy. what happens is the gov't sucks money out of the private sector, to pay hand-picked public sector folks, who then spend it (or hopefully invest) back into the private economy. the private economy has no net gain. the gov't gains because it collects taxes on every end of the transaction. so the private market loses on public jobs. unnatural jobs man.
tmac9938 5 months ago
@tmac9938 Your argument strangely omits the fact that productive economic activity has occurred. There has been a movement of capital, yes,but also production of products and services. The benefit of these remain as added value. (for example, roads, or murals, or social work which improves the quality of life for workers, and ultimately their productivity and contribution to the GDP.
quintvantage 5 months ago
@quintvantage "productive public economic activity has occured." ok, besides shiny new bridges and dams, what did we gain as a return on our investment?
FDIC/Steagall:1. the internet is a large scale economy, currently 99% unregulated (albeit invented by gov't), and the sky hasnt yet fallen. 2. competitors to iphones prove consumer power exists. we dont have to be organized. it isnt a collective consumer, its independent consumers that purchase things. if we had no power the iphone would rule.
tmac9938 5 months ago
@tmac9938 Re: 'what did we gain' If you can't understand the economic benefit of bridges and dams I cannot help you.
As to your example of the internet as unregulated, the opposite is true. Please see 'common carrier regulation.' Regulation makes the internet what it is. As for financial or consumer protection regulation, it has the same Fed regs as any commercial venture.
I don't understand your iPhone idea... Are you saying Apple doesn't rule the world?
