Why didn't the censors just consider banning this episode instead of making pointless edits to scenes that aren't even that terrible?! Sometines, I just wonder why censorship even exists (for entertainment, at least).
I think the makeover & electrocution part really WAS too much. But the rest of edits are pointless - they failed to make Warners look any less mean in this episode. The only right way to do it would be to rewrite the script. Because personally, I was kinda disturbed even by the censored version, and I didn't know it was censored.
Because... sure, Warners teach ppl lessons, but this anchorman never really hurt anyone that much. And the ending... I personally think it's just creepy.
They should have left the lines "I'll call you anything I want. I'm the anchor," and "We protest you calling yourself an anchor" in the US broadcast. The dialogue didn't make much sense without those quotes.
Hi, I'm Troy McClure (AKA: Ghost Phil Hartman)! You may remember me from such animated guest appearances as: The coward lawyer, Lionel Hutz from The Simpsons. The already-beaten up, bankrupted monorail guy, Lyle Lanley. Also from The Simpsons. And LA's best anchorman, who would soon be manipulated and tortured by those stupid, crazy, mind-blowing, children: The Warners, and their sidekick, Slappy the Squirel; known as: Slam Fondlesome from Steven Spielberg's Animaniacs!!!!!!!!
I think why the Slappy Squirlle scene got cut is because, (as to quote her in the episode "A Christmas Plotts) she was sick of having those "dumb cameos". And at about 1:47, OMG! He said Homer Simpson's "D'oh!". LOL!
@InvaderWakkoReborn I don't have an analog capture device. I have now a device to copy VHS to DVD, and I can capture DVD on the computer. I just haven't done any VHS-to-DVD copying yet...
I wonder if in America Warner's Animation got too much heat for parodying ABC news. Its clearly Sam Donaldson who they are spoofing. I noticed the name of the anchorman is different as well. It sounds like his name is Slam Fondlesome here. In the American version his name is Dan Anchorman. Hysterical.
This part of the episode would not make sense, as Wakko is deadly afraid of clowns and yet, he doesn't react when they make the anchorman one. It would be still good if they included this scene though.
@lbrown21494 No, my friend Federica Giulietti ("shangelina" on YouTube) sent it to me. The episode aired intact in Italy, and the intact English version airs on English channels in Europe, so the audio she recorded from that was mated with the Italian video she also had sent me. They don't quite run at the same speed, hence the cuts you can hear in the audio to keep it in sync.
They should have at least kept the Slappy bit in since that was Slappy being cruel, not the Warner Sibs, and being cruel isn't new for her. After all she did dynamite an overly affectionate nanny and scared away a huge crowd by playing the accordion - not that I really have anything against accordions, but the crowd certainly did! XD
Yep, because of that promo, we always knew that something had been cut from this episode (for we recognized his suit and the background, thus knew it was this episode).
i think it's good that the electricty thing got cut out. That was borderline evil. The big fat dope thing was kinda dumb, i'm glad that was changed. I'm a little on the fence about the "Hot towel, hot wax" part. I think they should have kept yakko hitting him with the pie. And i think they should have kept slappy's cameo.
There are a lot of references that kids wouldn't get, from the Jackie Gleason variety show to Mary Tyler Moore to That Girl to Beany & Cecil... All fans of Animaniacs should read the "Cultural References Guide to Animaniacs" ("CRGA" for short).
Using "big fat dope" as an insult is a big no-no on a program viewed by children. It A) encourages calling someone stupid, and B) encourages making fun of fat people, or at the very least puts a negative connotation on being fat. There would have been all sorts of uproar had they used that in the U.S. Why the pie bit through the electrocution was cut is anybody's guess. Maybe the censors thought the electrocution was gratuitous. Going straight from "pre-adults" to "I hate you!" is a weird cut.
Because Vertically Enhanced Post-Children have a bad habbit of loosing perspective when taking Vertically Challenged Pre-Adults. I would almost say they become Emotionally Diverse.
LOL. i still dont see why this episode had to get censored.
This is a parody on Sam Donaldson. I keep seein' someone mention Bill O Reilly, but its not. This cartoon was made before that even happened.
But i can see how this could be used in reference to Bill O Reilly. I remember.... cuz if anyone esle here can remember what it was about, the "Bill O Reilly Scandal" bit. You should read about that and um....ahem...possibly LISTEN to it too...
As nice as this all is, it doesn't really bother me that they cut these scenes. It's true: it DOES make the Warners look, like, well, butts. I prefer to think of them as simply zany, but cruelty is another thing. It's just too complicated. The line is extremely blurry. It's not like it's all that different.
Yeah, I understand the censorship too. Indeed the Warners usually are playful -- not deliberately vicious. The "big fat dope" routine is just network policy of not allowing a character to call another one specifically stupid (they even forced Mo-Ron to be renamed Bo-Ron in subsequent appearances in Freakazoid). They didn't want parents to complain that the show was teaching kids to call people names (as if they would have to be taught that).
Huh, who knew, but you know, it doesn't bother me that it was apparently cut. It looks to me like it might have been cut to fit with the perceived views of the target audience, and varied country to country because of that. Of course, although I know I watched it, I don't remember the original airing.
As stated before (and in the description), the Warners were perhaps too vicious (e.g., "If he doesn't like us now, wait'll he gets a load of this" was changed to a more playful "I dunno; maybe he wants us to direct"), and were calling him outright stupid instead of focusing on the fact that they did not receive a tip (e.g., "big fat dope" changed to "incredibly cheap").
It's not even Americans, or moms. It's network executives and censors, who are way way way too anal when it comes to kids' TV. My parents would have had no problem letting me watch this, and most parents wouldn't either, I bet.
Network execs are obsessed with not offending anybody, yet most of the stuff they take offense to probably wouldn't offend anybody.
"Slam Fondlesome" is one thing...the violence thing is another. Leave it to middle-aged liberal women to get in a snit about violence.
That's correct. What it doesn't tell you is that the connotation is usually that the person doing it shouldn't be doing it to the other person (such as for reasons of age).
I don't get why they censored this so heavily. I mean, I get the "slam fondlesome" bit, but everything else looks like typical animaniacs. Most of the time they ARE cruel for no reason at all and live to frustrate adults everywhere.
I know I hate insulting my own country, but I agree!!! America do suck in censorship. I love America, but come on!!!! These were probably the funniest scenes in the episode.
I had one, but the current drivers had broken the video capture capability. Still, this is much better than the screenshot slideshow version I originally made back in about 1996. I keep meaning to get a new video capture device, for things like this and video of fan gatherings from back in the day, video of voice actor appearances, etc.

yea i remember the electrution part and everything...i think what happened is they aired it once but probably got complaints so changed it....hey i dunno lol
The electrocution you remember because it was in a Fox Kids promo. Those of us who were online at the time noticed that the animation must have come from this episode, but nobody had it on their tapes from the original broadcast. Thus we knew something was missing.
Much of what you see here WAS in the original broadcast, but with different dialog. The only entirely cut scenes were the "makeover" bit and the electrocution (plus Slappy's cameo, of course).
That electrocution animation was used in a Fox promo for Animaniacs. It's how we always knew there were parts of this episode missing, because we could tell it was a clownified version of the anchorman from this episode.
I don't understand why some promos such as trailers or tv spots have scenes missing from movies or tv shows that are not shown in the final cut. That's unfair if they don't have it as a deleted extra. I hope the deleted scenes shown here will be included as a DVD or Blu-Ray extra someday.
lol ya big time XD i mean, dont ppl watch movies?? heres wat happens...
parents tell kids no, kid says ok
kid get older, parents say no, they say y not? parents say b/c i told u kid says ok
kid is teenager parents say no, kid fuses, rebels, and does it anyway and screws somethin up parents r like OMG i told u not to do it! kid says its their fualt
partially true b/c parents indirectly caused event to happen, and also kids fault b/c they were stupid....lol @least i c it that way XD
I agree with you ElfenLiedPhsycoFan ... I have a friend who is in trouble all the time and his mothers raised him in church and banned a lot of things like Pokemon Cards... Isn't that stupid? I was raised to watched/do what I liked as long as it wasn't against the law and to be myself... I'm a better good child :p
Personally, I don't find this offensive or can I see why they cut it. It's a cartoon, and Tom & Jerry has comic 'violence' anyway for goodness sake. Things will end up to sanitized and safe if people get worried about the smallest thing.
i think the make over part was deleted because it was violent... i mean, hot towel with burning sound, and then hot wax with burning sound... ouch that's painful to think about
Because it made him seem vicious rather than playful. "Maybe he's wants us to direct" is funnier, more playful, and doesn't come across as explicitly mean.
Oh, ok. I still don't get why they changed the "Big, Fat Dope" line. I found that more hilarious. They could've at least changed the name instead of the whole dialouge.
I think it's similar to how the Freakazoid character Mo-Ron was changed to Bo-Ron the second time around. They were really sensitive about calling someone outright stupid. So they made the scene be about them not getting a tip rather then just being mean.
I rember this- they showed the cut scenes in the UK version. Basically, the commentator in the wrestling match screams about how the news anchor guy is getting beaten up by "bulk logan" (get it?).
I have a vague memory of seeing this on Television. I believe in South Africa (Seeing as we usually got the US shows after the UK) the scene was left intact. I remember the "Big Fat Dope" routine as I could not speak English very well and was confused as to what a "dope" was. I remember Slappy blowing up a guy with a bomb, but that's just classic Slappy so it could've been from ANY episode. 8)
I have this on vhs somewhere, with that deleted scene in it. Frankly I was around 12 at the time and to me it was just another acme bomb gag, nothing more. I didn't know he was made as a spoof of a real ankor that was killed.
Yeah, in the UK and throughout Europe, the scene was left intact. And no, the real anchorman, Sam Donaldson, was not killed -- the actor who plays this parody was. But that was several years later, so had nothing to do with the censorship in the U.S. broadcast.
i like this one much better then the edited one besides thay have done a lot worse to there " friends"

lmao Slam Fondlesome as in Slamming *wink wink* and fondling ;D
Alfa3232323 3 years ago
Uhhh, well, I think "Slam" in this case was simply the slang term for a vicious joke about someone.
Keeper1st 3 years ago
Now that's what I call too shocking for television (@ 1:35- 1:39). I still wish they left this uncut.
tscastro114 3 years ago
That electrocution animation was used in a Fox promo for Animaniacs. It's how we always knew there were parts of this episode missing, because we could tell it was a clownified version of the anchorman from this episode.
Keeper1st 3 years ago
I don't understand why some promos such as trailers or tv spots have scenes missing from movies or tv shows that are not shown in the final cut. That's unfair if they don't have it as a deleted extra. I hope the deleted scenes shown here will be included as a DVD or Blu-Ray extra someday.
tscastro114 3 years ago
The DVDs came out more than a year ago. These deleted scenes are not on them.
Keeper1st 3 years ago
I figured they weren't going to be on the DVDs.

ElfenLiedPhsycoFan 3 years ago
So, what happens if the parents are idiots?
Foxlover666 3 years ago
then....well, the parents would be idiots b/c they cant see they r driving their kids toward that attitude/situation they dont want them to be ^_^
ElfenLiedPhsycoFan 3 years ago
I agree with you ElfenLiedPhsycoFan ... I have a friend who is in trouble all the time and his mothers raised him in church and banned a lot of things like Pokemon Cards... Isn't that stupid? I was raised to watched/do what I liked as long as it wasn't against the law and to be myself... I'm a better good child :p

Personally, I don't find this offensive or can I see why they cut it. It's a cartoon, and Tom & Jerry has comic 'violence' anyway for goodness sake. Things will end up to sanitized and safe if people get worried about the smallest thing.
sunnygirly2k4 3 years ago 2
well, you can see why the name Slam Fondlesome is a little inappropriate, can't you? still....i think it's a funny name...hehehehe
ireallydontcare3384 3 years ago
Can't be any worse than the Chokey Chicken in Rocko's Modern Life. Yet ANOTHER show I loved from the early 90', and I greatly miss it.
Cartoons today are crap

BOO FUCKING HOO. This should have been on the air.
gccoley 3 years ago 2
Kinda glad they deleted these.
Too many male chars tortured as it is..and the makeover, 'unno-it is overly harsh..disturbs me even.
Other than that though, I've loved the Animaniacs all my life and stil do.
CurlyHayami 3 years ago
i think the make over part was deleted because it was violent... i mean, hot towel with burning sound, and then hot wax with burning sound... ouch that's painful to think about
The tension line joke was good though :/
gothicspoon 3 years ago
Fondlesome, hahahahaha!
PumaPumaPride 3 years ago
How was the last line that Yakko said "Wait'll he gets a load of this!" inappropiate.
PrincessofallCocoa 3 years ago
Because it made him seem vicious rather than playful. "Maybe he's wants us to direct" is funnier, more playful, and doesn't come across as explicitly mean.
Keeper1st 3 years ago
I dont know why they cut slappy's part. People get blown up on animaniacs all the time. The rest I understand...
Hehehehehe...fondle...
Mickeyman25 3 years ago
It was only offensive, because most of the people that Slappy blows up are animals, and not humans. That's probably the reason.
YoshiAngemon 3 years ago
It's not slappy I'm talking about. I've seen alot have episodes where the warners blew up people with cannons, TNT, all that good stuff.
Mickeyman25 3 years ago
hehehe... fondle...

Were these scenes restored on DVD?
KazuyaPrower 3 years ago
No. Otherwise I would not have posted them.
Keeper1st 3 years ago
Oh, ok. I still don't get why they changed the "Big, Fat Dope" line. I found that more hilarious. They could've at least changed the name instead of the whole dialouge.
KazuyaPrower 3 years ago
I think it's similar to how the Freakazoid character Mo-Ron was changed to Bo-Ron the second time around. They were really sensitive about calling someone outright stupid. So they made the scene be about them not getting a tip rather then just being mean.
Keeper1st 3 years ago
I rember this- they showed the cut scenes in the UK version. Basically, the commentator in the wrestling match screams about how the news anchor guy is getting beaten up by "bulk logan" (get it?).
kingkoopa3000 3 years ago
That bit was in the U.S. broadcast too; the part with Slappy blowing him up was not.
Keeper1st 3 years ago
Slam Fondlesome is the anchorman's name, in the censored version it was changed to Dan Anchorman
TwinTailFox12 3 years ago
Perhaps it's just me, but I didn't find anything offensive about this...

the name Slam "FONDLESOME" and the last line yakko says

i have a question :
what's the meaning of slam fondlesome ??
why is it bad??? but still!! i wish they didnt put on these censors!!!!
blueanimejoker 3 years ago
It was censored because it contains the word "fondle".
Keeper1st 3 years ago
wat does fondle mean??
blueanimejoker 3 years ago
Er, to touch in a loving way... Often associated with older men and young girls...
Keeper1st 3 years ago

kyokoropamuyo 3 years ago
I BARELY remember this from the cobwebs of my mind... I remember the hot towel scene, but that's it. :( DO WANT
dOMITUPSYK 3 years ago
I have a vague memory of seeing this on Television. I believe in South Africa (Seeing as we usually got the US shows after the UK) the scene was left intact. I remember the "Big Fat Dope" routine as I could not speak English very well and was confused as to what a "dope" was. I remember Slappy blowing up a guy with a bomb, but that's just classic Slappy so it could've been from ANY episode. 8)
CPuff8D 3 years ago 2
I have this on vhs somewhere, with that deleted scene in it. Frankly I was around 12 at the time and to me it was just another acme bomb gag, nothing more. I didn't know he was made as a spoof of a real ankor that was killed.
kimahri45k 3 years ago
Yeah, in the UK and throughout Europe, the scene was left intact. And no, the real anchorman, Sam Donaldson, was not killed -- the actor who plays this parody was. But that was several years later, so had nothing to do with the censorship in the U.S. broadcast.
Keeper1st 3 years ago
I didn't think the bomb and the electrocution were that bad but maybe it's good that they're out, just out of respect for Phil Hartman.
