  • Just watched this film from the TV, So far its the best film I'v seen this year!

  • A Beautiful Mind?????

  • whats james horner gonna do lol sue himself for plagarising and copywright lol

  • it cant be considered plagerism if he copies his own work lol his works are copywright protected james horner can plagerise his music all he wants

the very same theme... hans zimmer is a lazy m*fucker

  • @mkadaukemusic Your point on the identical melody is valid but for one thing. It's James Horner. I love Hans Zimmer. Also, thanks for the link - I never really bothered to look it up- and I must say I prefer that version over this.

In defence of Horner though, making new tracks each time is hard - My attempts at compositions always end up repeating themselves. Then again, this is still quite shameless.

  • One of my favourite movies ever!

I always cry when I see it :'(

  • Harmony mechanized .. simply beautiful.

  • You know. I don't care what people think. I know James Horner recycles the same notes a lot. Especially with The Machine Age and Kaleidoscope of Mathematics. It doesn't matter because it fits the genre and theme of each and every movie and results in a different experience.

In the end, both themes are absolutely stunning. They're like twins, but still have different tastes and personalities, even though they look alike.

  • mmm mmm! man i love horner's music! from titanic to avatar he really does put flow and effort into a score unlike most of todays composers who just do while a halfass job and slap it together in a day or but give horner a week or so and you'll have something like this!

  • ok you guys made me do it.... i gonna watch it... RIGHT NOW! masterpiece

  • The ultimate example of utter self-plagiarism. The Hornerism of the century. And then he goes on to compose A Beautiful Mind and people praise his main theme for that as if he had never written this.

    Disgusting.

  • @HarrisonOdell Well at least when he composed this it was an original piece, nothing he took from previous works, so this is the true masterpiece.

  • This is the first movie I ever saw in a theatre and I glad I did.

  • 2:38 is amazing!! sounds like kaleidoscope of mathematic

  • I always wondered what that thing was at 1:29 .....the robots' back? Anyway, this movie gave me the coolest futuristic thoughts as a child. This truley was an amazing movie, and James Horner became my favorite composer because of this opening.

  • @guitarman1568 Upon initial viewing? I would opine it's a backside view of the robot's head (skull).

  • @guitarman1568 i always thought it was a head lol

  • woa this is in the wrong key!

  • What an astounding piece. It builds up very slowly. The first two minutes or so are rather comical. But around the time of the trump the second minute in, it pics up pace and then an orchestrated unison of epicness happens which you can feel a very strong emotion put into it. Very nice.

James Horner is awesome as always.

  • James Horner=?????

  • i like it, but it would be far better when the movements of the machineries where more matching the music's rhythm

  • Great music, thanks for uploading. I've done a transcription of the first minute of the Beautiful Mind version on Sibelius, if anyone would be kind enough to have a look :) Love the trumpet part as well.

  • You can find exactly the same piece in: "Searching for Bobby Fisher", "Sneakers", "A beautiful mind". Horner used to be a great composer but these times are over.

  • @Drawert1

to be honest I love how he expanded sneakers theme. I see this more of a progression over his personal work than a "repeated" cue or so. It would be sad to lost this, josh and vinnie or kaleidoscope of mathematics.

  • @Drawert1 You forgot Star Trek TWOK also.

  • I've heard a song just like this, only more dynamic, here on youtube. Used on some random astronomy video. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

  • This happens to be my favourite scene in the movie, and is one of my favourite scenes of all time. This pretty much sums up everything I love about science. Humanity's power of the imagination, our collective ingenuiety, our knowledge, our power. Our will the master the world around us. Do you know how incredible and remarkable that makes us?

  • Can someone tell me what the name of the music that is playing when Andrew is stating the 3 laws of robotics please?

  • I can't believe how bad this movie did at the box office. This movie is incredible. Robin Williams and Sam Neill are amazing actors. They never fail to disappoint me. One of my favorite movies for sure!

  • Really an awesome movie theme

  • It so awesome that he used it again @2:40 for A Beautiful Mind - 01 A Kaleidoscope of Mathematics and won an Oscar for it!

  • @elpresidio LOL it really is the same thing, except sounds better in 'a beautiful mind'

  • I just remembered this movie about a couple of weeks ago since 5-7 years. I love this movie. Thanks for uploading.

  • i still can't believe it. james horner (composer for this film) basically took this opening sequence music and basically used it for most of the score for the film " a beautiful mind" . listen to the very beginning of a beautiful mind and it's basically the same melody. there's absoluetly no difference!

  • this song remember me when i'm 6 years old hehe

  • this opening credit sequence and the music are the best part of this movie

  • To tell you the truth i think this will be real someday ,.look at Japanese robots getting more real all the time.

  • I love this movie! It's one of the best ever :D

  • It's my number one favorite :)

  • Does anyone notice a fantastic pattern between the folowing movie characters: Johnny5 From Short Circuit, Sonny from I,Robot, and Andrew from this awesome movie right here? It's not just that they're all my fave, but their goal is to be alive and become human or have human characterisitcs.

  • have you noticed that the 3 robotic rules are the same too

  • Isaac Asimov proposed those 3 rules around the 70's. Makes a lot of sense for those too

  • Yes! I just about fell out of my chair when I found that out!

  • "Machines making machines, how perverse!" :)

  • hm... C-3PO ? :)

  • This is where it is all leading... bionic robot factories right here in the USA.. robots building themselves.. repairing themselves.. programming themselves.. ITS FUCKING AWESOME!

  • I listened to this song over and over when I was about 10, I dubbed it onto a tape about 3 times on each side an I would spend half an hour listening to it. Now this is the first time i've heard it 7 years latere and I must admit I teared up at 2.44. THANK YOU

  • omg i love love this movie and brillant mind are my favorites hollywood i command you go back to the good old days =)

  • I think the reason he chose to rearrange this piece for A Beautiful Mind is because both films are about science/maths themes. This one is slower and more mechanical (machines) and A Beautiful Mind is faster and more flowing, which gives it a less regimented feel (like a human mind).

  • For fucks sake, Horner keeps ripping himself off over and over again. Bicentennial man is just one of the many examples. In this score we hear EXACTLY the same themes as in A Beautiful Mind, parts of Braveheart. He has no fucking shame.

  • Buts it sounds fucking good right! One universal track, and his stack is still growing :D

  • Yeah, the song is great, but he plays exactly the same themes in his other scores. I just say is disappointing.

  • Yeah thats true, if he would be good enough he would came up with some other great tracks!

  • its the way he conducts and writes the music you shit head

  • The soundtrack cd is NOT available in Canada, so its a real treat to see the intro here. Its available as a download on the USA itunes store and so I'm going to request they put it on the Canadian itunes store soon.

  • Horner definitely reused a lot of the theme for A Beautiful Mind (where I think it works even better), fine film though

  • What do you mean? The only thing I did to this clip was add the sliding titles at the start. The original audio hasn't been replaced, and looking at the Soundtrack CD for this movie, this piece is definately called 'The Machine Age'. I suspect you've put this comment on the wrong video.

  • No, definitely the right video. I'll asume this was the musical track to the U.S intro of the film. I'm from Australia. The version that was released here had a different/better orchestral track. Pacy and exciting and ended with a climactic bang.

  • @LateralGanon

    I'd imagine he did

  • hey wait this song seeems soo familiar to the introduction of beautiful mind!!!

  • thanks, this is my favorite intro ever, i love "the machine age" of james horner.

  • Man. I love this intro.

This is honestly one of the only intros that grabbed my attention.

Even so, this is an excellent movie =]

  • Do you know any other intros like this then?

  • A beautiful mind
