God...Oshi-! Just imagine yourself on a rollercoaster track just like this one going at the same speed as the marbles on this video...Let the shrieks begin. Great coaster, good job +1 like.
@tsnlawson Dowel rod is approximately 32" long, but you'd have to make yours to fit your hill. I HIGHLY recommend drawing each and every section of track on graph paper first (to scale). I used 1/2" = 1" or "half scale". This helped immensely in letting me know where each track-supporting crossbar (stick) was needed.
did you use a computer program to design this? where did you begin? I have a motor & I am beginning there, but MAN....this is mind boggling...lol....any help on measurements would be great...thanks, T
@tsnlawson No comp prog. Simply trial & error. Rolling steel balls on large poster board held approx at heights and dips I had drawn. I encourage u to use the STRAIGHTEST dow you can find. I used two layers of weather stripping as the "screw gear". To make the large straight pieces of track, I literally used very large graph paper and drew a 1.5" grid. I placed the vertical sticks ON the vert lines and the horiz sticks' TOP edge right on/below the horiz lines. Then stood them up when they dried.
You should get paid for this kind of thing. Like, paid to make roller coasters in amusement parks. This is awesome.

Ok, I know part of the thing is made out of toothpicks, but what are the tracks made out of?
CrayfishYAY 1 month ago
@CrayfishYAY - Actually no toothpicks. It's all balsa wood and the track is simply a piece of posterboard. :-)
mdscms 1 month ago
@mdscms you cut a full piece of wood down to chopstick sized pieces? why not just use chopsticks?
