if you buy one of these eglu coops you wont have any problem with the council. I made a lovely chicken coop for my hens but council didn't like, so i bought one of this eglu second hand, I made a nice setup of eglu coop with some grass underneath the wire net, when the officer came for next inspection he couldn't find any excuse, all he said, this is acceptable. I personally advice this coop if you live in residential area and love to have a few hens in the backyard.
to make a comment as stupid as that is bad enough, but to even mention KFC is repulsive.
you obviously don't have any idea about the welfare aspect of their chickens. it's horrendous.
now...go down to your local KFC and order your usual. then post a video of yourself digging into a box of processed garbage on youtube. i can't wait to see how ugly, fat and greasy you'll look XD....actually no, on second thoughts. don't. it will damage my eyes.
If you can afford it, there's no doubting that eglus are great.
I can't afford it, and I have far too many pullets to fit in there. My coop is made from recycled wood, but it's not unhygienic, I use a spray bottle of disinfectant weekly, and treat the wood once a year. It's virtually maintenance free, but it doesn't hurt if something needs attention, because I love spending time with my girls :)
for what they are, yes. it is. but what i love about them is they are so easy to clean. sort of like a hamsters cage! just spray some disinfectant on it and hose it down! then you're set to go!
it's also safer for the chickens and yourself (no splinters! yay!)
Chickens will scratch the wood and over time the durability will deteriorate; which will in turn make it necessary to make a new coop, whereas plastic is tougher against chickens and thier predators. In the interest of the chickens - plastic is the best choice.

Theyre housed in plastic, what could be more boring, theyre also depressed about the worldwide ecological damage being caused by their new housing as well I think.
What are you housed in? What worldwide ecological damage results from your daily consumption of products & services? You fancy yourself some sort of ecological super hero, above the rest of plebian society?
something a bit more carbon neutral made from a naturally sustainable material sounds better doesnt it? heard of timber?
shows how much all of you obviously love our enviroment, more chinese plastic for the landfill is what you all want by the look of it, nasty ignorant bunch

and you can plant more trees which absorb the co2 that the eglu has cost to make in its manufacture
mature softwood trees do not use as much co2 as new trees
do you know how much oil you need to make plastic?
do you know how difficult and how much energy is involved in recycling plastic as well as its filthy polluting manufacturing process in the first place?
did you go to school? you obviously know very little about the world outside your ignorant bubble
well at least, if you recycle it, you won't be throwing it into the landfills. and when you buy lumber, they don't tell you where it came from. at least not where i buy it.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
it take oil to recycle you dolt!!!!!
you dont buy lumber and youve never asked, your posts shows this, you dont even know the difference beteween hardwood rain forest and ecologically forested soft wood
you dont know that a mature tree uses less co2 than a fast grwoing new tree
you dont know shit, are you going to buy an eglu? is this the typical mentality of a eglu purchaser that they argue the ecological toss of plastic against wood? what a bunch of thick twats
how much cost?

but isn't cutting down trees as bad as plastic?
rwu19290 3 years ago
If its hardwood trees from the rainforests or from the ancient appalachians then yes
If its from sustainable fast growing softwood managed forestry then no
Which one do you think a sensible person would choose?
cafemondo 3 years ago
but it's still killing the tree. you can recycle the eglu. then that wouldn't be killing the earth.

It will rot, plastic doesnt do too well over many years exposed to ultraviolet rays, thats the sun in case you didnt know that either
