I saw him live in Hackney at about the same time this video would have been made. He absolutely the boom. His voice was as brilliant as when he 1st sang. Great artist, great singer and just sheer class fullstop. Jah guidance and protection to you all.
THIS IS A WELL WATERED DOWN VERSION OF THE ORIGINAL. Linval is a hard core, heavy duty, roots singer/producer but obviously this performance is catering for the 'rock' audience. Just like the Wailers and other bands (from that era) felt the need to dilute their roots music to make it more palatable to the 'rock' audience. The original produced roots rockers music was and still is considered (by some)to be too strong and powerful for the 'top of the pops' type people.
dude, totally agree, was just about to say that theyve made it a bit generic and typical-80s-inner circle-bad boys-pop. i mean, how unique to linval thompson is the sound of the original recording? also, i find it hard to think of a decent song with an electric piano in it. tell you what though, his voice is sounding pretty fucking good isn it - normally they end up all gruff and old sounding
@westonxx: I couldnt disagree more. This live performance is fantastic. The musicians are all spot on and I am happy to see Linval is still out there performing.
Everyone gives Linval massive credit for his producer skills, but he's also definitely one of my favourite reggae singers. Up there with Johhny Clarke, Dennis Brown, Barrington Levy and Gregory Isaacs!
hehehe best song ever
