I dont think this is the way to cover a song like this one, the song isnt about being in a biker gang so personally I dont see why you'd try to make it something it isnt.

Well actually I know, Dickinson was afraid that people would call him a fag if he tried to sing it in the right, more moody, way. Or he just liked this better, he should have tried to sing it with more feeling since its a side you dont often see with metal frontmen.

The "news" in reference is actually the end of the world as presented in Bowie's song "Five Years". That being said this song also has some pro-gay elements as people have stated, but it is not simply a "gay anthem". It's intended for the disaffected youths of the early 70's moving on from the drugged up loving-idealism of the hippy era.

Maybe a great song is just a great song, however you have to remember this was 1990, way before the rainbow civil rights movement. and debased, PC America. This is the irony in Bruce picking this tune.

Here's what I don't get. 1. Bruce is a Metal God. 2. He's covering a well known gay anthem. I am just curious as to why just becuase of who Bruce is. This is a great tune and stands the test of time, but Bowie was known for going through his bisexual phase before realizing that it was experimentation under the influence and not his sexuality. In short, Bruce has the chops to make this song great but choosing an anthem for young gay men seems so far from his persona. Anyone have insight on this?

Bowie actually wrote this song for Moot The Hoople, one of his favourite bands. As for the meaning of the song, if there was any homosexual overtones (Which I haven't read into it.) in this number, I'm sure Bruce wouldn't be phased. Although to look at Bruce's own meaning-making - whilst all we can do is speculate - I'd guess that this particular rendition is more an anthem for the metalheads and rock n' roll warriors worldwide. The romanticized rebels and vagabonds.
