Thanks for this, I am just startin to learn bass, I am a drummer, I dont supose you can show us how to play Joy Division's 'Digital'? Nobody on youtube has done this, I think it is the best bass sound out of Joy Division tunes.
Not bad- but all those notes should be chords- you have to play the open D-string while you are striking the high notes- try it- you will see the difference.
Awesome another bassist that actually likes Joy Division! Peter Hook was my first influence to learn bass. BTW, if you're looking for a good pedal, go for the Boss ME-50B, it's got every effect you'd need.
yeah well played get yourself a Electro-Harmonix Clone Theory, reissue of the pedal Peter Hook used and add a touch of distortion to get that fat heavy sound. Try playing the (G note) G string 12th fret on the D string 17th fret its easier to play, i noticed you missed it once and played the 13th fret. Keep playing and stick at it, looking forward to seeing you improve
thanks for your comments :) the reason I play the G at the 12th fret is because I noticed Peter Hook play it there too. And I will have a look into that pedal :)
Use a pick. Downstrokes. D string.

Good shout but on the version on the Unknown Pleasures album the open D is ommitted :)

@mharclerode
The record version on Unknown Pleasures isn't played with chords. The song, however, is played with a pick.

My first influence was chris wolstenholme of muse but I think joy division has the best/most effective bass riffs. I will do another j.d. one soon :)
