Those were a great series of interviews. I think he was on three or four times and I remember them vividly also. It was like watching a train wreck. Turned out to be a bit of a prelude in terms of what was to come in Blake's life. Miss Tom Snyder. Nobody like him today.
Hey, I actually saw that show and I NEVER FORGOT IT. Before I watched this I could have still told you exactly what blake said: "I should have bit a hole in his throat and sucked his heart out through it." to which snyder replied: "now you're beginning to frighten me." my only comment is, all psychiatrists should have that done to them. Only they probably don't have a heart or like the grinch, it's "two sizes too small." ha! I miss both blake and snyder.
Maybe it's because Snyder interviewed Manson as well, but I'm sorry to say this: Blake's eyes remind me of Mansons, and not just during the Snyder interview either. His eyes are forceful, manipulative and predatory. I've met predatory and forceful people in my life, but never with just their eyes, like Manson, Bundy, or Blake :S
Snyder was the man! I remember watching this interview the night it aired like it was yesterday. This was a great show, too bad he's gone. A real true late night show with a true great host. r.i.p. tom
@plutoplatters Wow I gues Blake should have been black, so he could have gotten justice just like OJ Simpson. Wonder if they will set him up and make a charge up for him in the future, because their mad he beat the murder rap. Oh I forgot. He should be ok. He's white, in Amerikkka. Dont do the crime, If you cant do the time. Blake deserves the Death Penalty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe somebody will pay the same hittman he tried to pay to kill him. HUM!!
@tonyuptown69 aww shut your mouth. oj never got away with anything b/c he is in jail shut your mouth. everybody is capable of evil. being black has nothing to do with it
I remember this! watvching in a motel room Oneonta..we fell out of the bed laughing! don't make'em like this anymore...Blake/Carradine/ Landon/ Eastwood, etc. had the chops/had the background...etc.
Don't know why his last appearance hasn't been posted anywhere or shown on the news since he talked in length about his love for Bonnie Lee Bakley and he pleaded for her to come back to her and he forgave her for all the things she's done in the past. He didn't mention her by name but described her accurately and it was at the time they were together. Does anyone know if that was shown in trial? This is nothing in comparison to that night. Snyder was really afraid Blake had completely lost it.
Blake (regardless of anything else) is one of the most intense actors ever. Check out a film called (if I remember right) Blood Feud. He's playing Jimmy Hoffa. Nicholson? HA! Watch Blake when he's in the phone booth near the end of the film, talking to Bobby Kennedy. That is some of the greatest acting ever. No matter what, Bobby Blake the actor is one of the best ever.
agreed.Totally forgotten..I only had the pleasure to see him in 2 movies. The Mystery man in Lost Highway and Perry Smith in In Cold Blood ..he's great!
Blake was always a bit of a loose cannon, whether he was on "The Merv Griffin Show," "The Tonight Show" or as here with Tom Snyder (who considered him, along with Orson Bean, Harlan Ellison, Bonnie Hunt, Dennis Miller and James Woods his very favorite guests).
His alleged guilt in the death of Bonnie Lee Bakley (a serial gold digger/starf**per) doesn't, in any way, negate his talent as a great actor. I absolutely agree with you.
It is unfortunate (and I think no one more than Blake himself regretted this) that because of choosing to do a TV series ("Baretta," fine a series as it was), Blake may have ruined his chances of becoming a more widely-respected film actor, in the era between Brando & Newman and DeNiro & Pacino, that mantle occupied by actors such as Leo DiCaprio and Sean Penn today.
Absolutely! I miss his presence on television terribly. As a perpetual night owl, I still find myself occasionally looking for Tom late nights and in the early morning hours.
Snyder and Dick Cavett brought intelligence and wit to TV talk shows, something not seen, before them, since the days of Steve Allen and Jack Paar (and never in such large doses), and not likely to be seen again.
Charlie Rose comes closest, but he's too dry, humorless and full of himself, not the same as having a relaxed hour with Tom over a "colortini," or one of those 90-minute gabfests between Cavett and his guests.
I wish ABC, CBS, C-NBC, NBC & PBS would release much more (if not all) of Cavett's & Snyder's programs on DVD.
Blake needs his own reality show lmao. It would be the best!

Blake's eyes spell WEIRD. Those eyes come at you like a handful of darts.
Btw, Tom Snyder was the best interviewer of all time, of course, my opinion. He is sadly missed.

Thanks for posting.
I watched the Tom Snyder show when they showed it on WCBS here in New York a few years back. I loved when Robert Blake was on as a guest.
That was great entertainment.
