  • "When the truth gets buried deep Beneath the thousand years of sleep Time demands a turn-around And once again the truth is found"

For some reason this makes me think of ron paul. Real Freedom now!

  • @kelza12300 - Actually skinheads didn't appear til after the 60s and beatniks were essentially 1950s and early 60s.

  • @itallxit2 no this has nothing to do with Christ at all. Jesus, yes maybe, but not God, this is about hippies and people coming together in times of struggle, war, and hatred. this is a song for unity and peace

  • Dylan or Donovan? DONOVAN EVERYTIME, LOVE HIM!!!!

  • brill......

  • alot of people dont know the hurdy gurdy man that donovan were singing about wereeach of the beatles.of course witht his video now most people know haha.

  • the album BARABAJACKAL has Jeff Beck Group credited, so please any elders who know guitarists, is it Beck or Page????

  • @locheelad2 It was Jeff Beck and for your zeppelin news J.Bonham played Drums on this and it was Double tracked : any more info you need...

  • O.K> I googled it, half say Beck half say Page, IMO Don can't remember (too much meditation), sounds like Beck, and it turns this from a great ballad into a great rockin tune.

  • Page eh? I heard it was Beck and it sounded like Beck, well Donovan should know.

  • @locheelad2 Then 67' the later members of Led Z. were studio players somewhat especially J.P. Jones etc.

  • it was probably wise that he left out '...rolly polly polly man...'

  • i hate it when the audience tries to be part of the show....shut the fuck up and listen if youre a fan

  • how old were you when this song :happened" ?

  • what does that have to do with anything

  • i was born im the wrong decade! man i wish i lived in the 60's im so jealous. what a guy he's my fav . he's very underrated , i mean with the likes of dylan etc im pround to be 24 f and scottish, ill let my kids hear donovan, and he'll live on. peace man

  • I know the feeling :)

  • Dylan will live on..no matter what,, just ask his son.....

    Love to all

  • @kelza12300 so would you have been a folkie, beatnik, mod, rocker, hippie, skinhead? The 60's weren't a uniform experience, songs like this made to air because people were looking for the next BIG thing. It's a pity he couldn't have found a real hurdy gurdy to use in it,

  • I was present at this improptu gig, Sunday afternoon in the Adelphi Liverpool, the night before Donovan did a brilliant show for us all. Then back to the Adlphi for a real piss up with Donovan in tow. , Beatles week fantastic.

  • Awesome to see this. I have it on CD which was a cheap live recording so I was a bit sceptical but its great to have this version!

  • dam,I MISS MY YOUTH

  • Great music , Donovan Philip is star !

  • Hi what club was this filmed in? Thanks.

  • it was in the adelphi hotel in liverpool

  • Thanks.

  • Just fantastic!!

  • That's funny, because history has shown that Jimmy Page didn't play on this song, much as I wished he had.

  • He did. I have seen a video of it.

  • Where is it? I'll bet 100 quid that he didn't play on the studio track.

  • It's been longly debated. Still in the "Hammer of the Gods" book Page is quoted saying that he met Jones while he was working on the Hurdy Gurdy Man album. I cannot think of many other songs where his guitar could have been requested.

  • I loooove George's verse. It's the best lyric he ever wrote. Too bad it never saw the light of day.

  • your right and thank your lucky ringos that george told the sometimes nerdy paul to go back & write something better for 'Free As Bird'.

  • So "the truth" of 1000 years ago would be worthwhile now?! Pls explain?

  • What?

  • If the lessons of history are not learned, history will be repeated

  • Dig! Thx, guy!

  • I loooove George's verse. It's the best lyric he ever wrote. Too bad it never saw the light of day.

  • That Harrison lyric = a description of heroin addiction, no?

  • No.

  • Zeitgeist !

  • 40 years worth, intact!

  • it is a good video tho

  • God these stupid people FUCK IT UP with their wooing. Jesus, save the woos for AFTER

  • Hey man, they were just there enjoying the moment. Don't give 'em any crap for enjoying themselves. It's not like the point of that performance was so one person could make a video for youtube.

  • Agreed. Thanks for the post!

  • I actually have a cassette recording of this show. The show was captured by the BBC I believe and then aired by the CBC about 18 years ago. The crowd cheers are subdued and the quality is surprisingly good. Everyone that I played this for usually request I play it when ever they visit with me. Unfortunately it is on cassette and after all these years it's due to fail soon.

  • Great song!!!!

  • yeah, it gives me a few tears to. Donovan is absolutely wonderful. Donovan is truly the Hurdy Gurdy man and always will be. George was to. I wish they would make a movie all about that experience in India as well as what was going on before, during, and after. Maybe even get Paul McCartney to come play and have those two tell some stories about Harrison and Lennon. I know there is more film from India out there somewhere.

  • Glad to see this classic recieved new life in the movie "Zodiac". It still gives me chills.

  • This guy should go back on tour. And sing hurdy gurdy as the final riff......

  • I love this. I read his autobio last year and I'm so glad that I got to see this after reading about the Harrison verse.

Donovan please come play Vancouver. We know and care.

  • Donovan's best & one of the greatest rock songs ever

  • that is amazing, ure so lucky, that looks like the coolest little venue

  • it was the main ballroom in the Adelphi hotel in Liverpool :)

  • brilliant. simply brilliant

  • Just beautiful to listen to again

Awesome track and moved me to tears.

High time the kids of today rediscovered the genius that is Donovan

  • when the truth gets buried deep -

beneath a thousand years of sleep -

time demands a turn around and once again the truth is found.

I love donovan so much, as well as george.

  • Donovan must be like 60 years old and he still sounds great! Amazing. Love this acoustic version and Harrison's lyrics...just beautiful.

  • I have always wanted to see him! And, yes he is over 60 now.

  • Mark Lewisohn a very famous beatle author and expert.

  • who's the baldie next to him?

  • Great footage!

Donovan, believe me, both George Harrison and John Lennon(in Rock-N-Roll Heaven) are smilin' from ear-to-ear in this magnificent tribute.

    Great song! Great tribute! :)

  • this song tops out everything i ever listened to

  • Love this song....sure miss George

  • Donovan is great!!!

  • Saw Donovan the evening before this at Beatlesweek concert in Liverpool - he was brilliant AS USUAL!! - devoted fan for more than 40 years.

  • Absolutely awesome!!! LOVE Harrison's verse.

  • never delete this video.

thank you, that has been one of my favorite songs since i heard the butthole surfers cover it on the dumb and dumber soundtrack when i was a kid

  • awesome please post more if you have it
