In terms of all-round greatness (achievements, talent, level of opposition beaten, dominance of era etc) I have Whitaker somewhere around the twelve to fifteen mark, alongside the likes of Ray Leonard, Barney Ross, Gene Tunney & Carlos Monzon. But in terms of being a defensive master, I have him number one, no question. I defy any other boxer in history between 135 lb & 147 lb to fight 36 rounds with a prime Nelson, Chavez & De la Hoya and get hit as few a times as Whitaker did (fucking judges!)

Unlike the guys today (Floyd and Pac), Pernell didn't hide behind the name game to avoid fighting the young lions coming up. He only had one real loss (trinadad) and the rest are highly debated. The best. Fought everybody, ANYWHERE, and knew they weren't fucking with him. Unlike the guys today (Floyd and Pac), Pernell didn't hide behind the name game to avoid fighting the young lions coming up. He only had one real loss (trinadad) and the rest are highly debated. If not the best all time, HE IS DEFINATELY THE BEST DEFENSIVE FIGHTER OF ALL TIME.

The stamina and chin of Ali would be able to outlast tyson alone. Mike is raw power and a beast on the inside but Ali would never let tyson get close to him. anyone who knows anything, knows that Ali would win that match, no problem. unless tyson gets the luckiest left hook of his life, he has no chance.

There is a world of difference between 27 year old Oscar and 35 year old Oscar. Same as 28 year old Julio Cesar Chavez and 34 year old Chavez. By the way, Chavez would have knocked Floyd out. Whitaker was the real deal. Still, Sugar Ray Robinson was 10 times better than Sweet Pea.
