  • reminds me of riding in my dad's truck as a kid! Miss you tonnes Dad sleep well!! xx

  • Great song! But---sad!

  • Of course, this was written by Bob Nolan (of the Sons of the Pioneers) in 1936, and Hank Williams Sr. did a version in 1948 (which is why it's a classic)

  • Real country! <3

  • Very, very good.Tks.

  • Very different from the Sons of the Pioneers. Very nice compliment.

  • @RossM3838 Another great one.... Listen to Joni Mitchells version with Willie Nelson singing backup.

  • one of the best versions..although sons of the pioneers is also stunning....!

  • For years I thought the Frankie Lane version was the best ever till I heard this,it's the greatest. He had a very distingtive voice as all good singers do and I now appreciate, him even more.

  • @nathan0578 amen!

  • It's wonderful to hear Burl Ives again, and this song will always be one of his best. Walter Brennan also made this one of his hits. Thank you for posting it.

  • A wonderfull song that brings back my youth days

  • @chickengeorge1ify it reminds me of my days in the sand caverns of sandosia

  • Anyone know where I can find a recording of "The Times they are a-Changin" By Burl Ives?

  • Born in 1939, grew up listening to these songs on 78's.

  • I was born in 1960. Burl Ives is a memory of a great man who could be my grandfather. Love his calming, soothing voice. Thank you sir.

  • burl ives had such a warm and special voice. i love him =) he´s so great

  • Great singer. I used to think of him as America's grandfather. I think many many people enjoyed his voice and acting. Miss this era, the stars the singers, the movies etc. Thanks goodness for these videos/recordings.

  • The best version of this song! At the right speed too!

    Bul is incomparable!

  • Nice Version. Thumbs Up From George. Also covered by myself.

  • Thank God i was introduced to Burl after coming across him on the Fantastic Mr. Fox soundtrack. Up there with Harry Nilsson for vocal smoothness you just want to pour into a glass and drink

  • I love Burl Ives. I played his music for my children when they were all little. Too bad this one wasn't on those albums! Seems like I heard this on a western.

  • What a VOICE !!!!! *****

  • These days some of us only drink water from plastic bottles purchased at the grocery store. So much for progress and mounds of plastic trash filling our landfills. We need to go back to a time when water was water, not some fancy named liquid in an expensive bottle.

  • as a child listening to him is relaxed me made me feel safe ....hey dont for get the frosty the snow man song ??? Bill Dignard smiths falls ontario canada,

  • My Dad would sing this song everywhere, he was not really a music man, but Burl would get him going..........

  • The flute is just wrong.

  • @cosmicarbiteroftaste I love the flute, sorry.

  • They're not riding horses; they've got two halves of coconuts and are banging them together!

  • @natoland shades of monty python! Well, back in the day, they didn't have fancy electronic sound mixers that could create whatever sound you wanted.

  • Every year at this time I long to lessen to Burl Ives he looks and sounded just like my daddy. He's been gone for many years now and when I want to remenber how he sounded I lessen the Cool Water her often sang that song along with alittle bitty tear let me down. Thank you for the music on this site and may God bless and keep you safe.... Grandma Scott

  • @giftsofdawn My father, too, used to sing Burl Ives to me. Beautiful memories before hard times.

We have our memories, giftsofdawn. Those are lucky things to have. Wishing you a lovely life.

  • Being a hot summer night, I went to the fridge and got two cups of water for my daughter and me. I gave her the cup and I just had this song in my head. I told her how I used to hear a song about "cool clear water" and how I would associate drinking water with this song when I was a kid. Glad I googled it and heard Burl Ives! This is probably the version I used to hear over 40 years ago when very young, and so glad to share nostalgia with my kid over the speakers as she listens, playing DSI.

  • @laurenandmia The internet is such a blessing. So many things I've found from my childhood!

  • An accomplished man of many talents, outstanding actor and singer...RIP, Mr. Ives!

  • For me, this is the best version!

  • my favorite version is the original with the sons of the pioneers.

  • I agree with you, but this version is pretty

    good!!!!

  • There are bundles of people around who are overrated as singers, people with hit records who couldn't sing for a supper in a real world. This man isn't one of them.

  • the amount of times i'v heard this record it still makes me want to listen to more,

  • A great version...

  • Always worth giving Burl a burl....

  • Nice version, and the best quality audio version I think on youtube, thanks! Now let me go get a glass of water!

  • many thanks. How great to rediscover Burl. I had some of his LPs many years but they were stolen anf I haven't been able to find him on CD. I was always amazed that such a sweet voice came out of such a big bear of a man.

  • Thank you Mister Canning, once again...Angie (Perth, West Australia) x ♪♪♫

  • LOVE this song-THANKS for posting-brings me lots of great memories of my childhood:-)

  • A classic!
