I want to buy a compact professional camera . My two main candidates are the Panasonic LX5 and Fuji X10. I have read lots of reviews, I've had in my hands, but still do not know which of the two decide. I need the help and the opinion of someone who has tried both. It's really difficult to choose one
I doubt the fujiguys will answer that one. The huge choice of Canon lenses and accessories, should be considered if you want to do serious videography. However, the portability of this one is a plus. It reminds me a bit of my Nikon Coolpix 5000 in size.
@airbornghost123 In good studio lighting, most cameras will do well with video. As for control, 60d wins as it offers full manual and is much better for professional video recording. APS-C sensor vs 2/3" . Not really a fair comparision
I wonder if the new iPhone 4S camera has the EXR pixel array.. I say that because Apple says that the new iPhone 4S Sensor improves in Dynamic Range, Low Light and faster.. Isn't that what the EXR pixel array improves???
@giantiger12 No. iPhone uses CMOS sensor, by default, it is better low-light and DR (but that is compared to the old sensor it used in the iPhone 4). The X10 uses a CMOS sensor (which has better low-light and DR) but also adds the EXR Pixel Array. A EXR Processor is used to configure the sensor to different settings to achieve better Lowlight or DR (Automatic via EXr, or you can manually set it). But for iPhone 4s, no, it does not use EXR.
Hello! Could anyone please tell me the difference between the x10 and the x100?Is the x10 a more compact version of the x100? I just need a camera that's good for taking photos in low light conditions and in situations where flash cannot be used. I'm not experienced in photography but I do like taking photos of people and landscapes.
@duchessofriots X100 has an APS-C size image sensor. The X10 uses a 2/3" CMOS sensor. The low light capabilities of the X100 will be of course better than the X10. The X10 offers versatility however with it's 4x manual zooming lens, Full HD video recording, and slightly smaller size. Build quality however on both cameras are identical. Once you pickup the camera, you can understand why the pricing. X10 has better lowlight than most premium P&S but via the EXR mode.
Who writes the VoiceOver bullshit? Wtf does"operability hones your senses design invites mastery of its potential" mean. Spare this sort of marketing corporate bullshit
@juleigh1959 X10 2/3" sensor, X100 APS-C, X10 OVF, X100 Hybridy Viewfinder. Both are great cameras. X100 if you own high end DSLR and want a companion. X10 if you want a premium P/S for the family. To isolate a subject with the X10, you need to shoot at around 85mm-115mm at f2.8. X10 is half the price as the X100. Both are quality built cameras.
@fujiguys basically I want a camera I can take overseas rather than the two DSLRs I own. Not sure about the X100 mainly because of the fixed focal. Most of the shots I will take will be family and landscape, buildings, not so much street photography
@juleigh1959 This would be a great camera. IQ is very good. To create a shallow depth of field, i shot at wide open f2.8 and between 80 and 112mm most of the time.
@sirbob809 Doesn't the S90 have a 1/1.7" sensor? :-) Yes, larger sensor with fast lens require larger lens and larger camera bodies. Law of physics. You can't have the best of both worlds.
@TiramisuType Pricing has not yet been confirmed. Feel free to follow me on Twitter or check the Fujifilm website. We will inform everyone once we have pricing confirmation.
Does the viewfinder adjust when you zoom in, or do you always see the same picture though the VF? Just different squares (marks) like Leica?
Why don't you kick out Leica from the throne. You got great lenses, sensors and camera bodies as well. Plus you have more features like the panorama mode and movie mode(!). Its the manual focus you need to get right my friends. Great idea with the X10-zoom. Integrate manual focus in rangefinder style and everybody regains the fun of photography.
@ECGMB Yes, the OVF adjust with the zoom. Looks bright and clear like you are looking in a DSLR viewfinder (except no info displayed). Thanks for you comment.
@iamakkara The command dial on the back (top right) controls aperture. The Command Wheel (Direction pad) controls shutterspeed. But no physical dial on the camera (due to size)
@roblarosa You're comparing apples and pears! The Canon didn't have manual zoom, did it?! The X10 does. And the Canon's construction wasn't anywhere NEAR as sophisticated as that of the X10. Just get informed, would ya!
@87solarsky - I wasn't comparing anything to anything. Just pointing out that you were wrong about the uniqueness of the viewfinder matching the zoom. Just learn the definition of the word unique, would ya? And try to do something about your reading comprehension too.

The Fuji X10 and XS1 are broken from the factory. Fuji has so far simply denied the issue. Buyer Beware!

Anyone else find it ironic that the X10 can shoot full 1080p and yet this youtube video is only available in 360p?

Can you turn the sound of the shutter off? Sometimes it's nice to be able to shoot candid shots in silence.

@chumpthedog Yes. You can turn of the shutter sound as well as the operational "beep" sounds via the Setup Menu on the camera.
