At first glance it might appear a bit weird (which is probably why it didn't sell well), but if you enjoy great dialogue and an engaging story that touches on some intriguing philosophical themes, I'd suggest Planescape: Torment. It dares to challenge the player with questions of ethics and purpose, which makes it quite captivating. The action/strategy aspect of the game's not that impressive, however.

It's pretty cheap on Good Old Games. Definitely worth the few bucks.

Graphics might not be all that but games from this era weren't visual spectacles. They tried though which is most visible in Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2 that came out the same year as this one. Oh, and 1997 was in the midst of the fmv era of videogames. Wasn't those games fun, eh :D
