When indians are in the West they have a big mouth....reality is that Indians are dying to come to the West and make our countries dirty.Have been to India a few times,very hypocrit people and India is the most dirty and filthy country in Asia.

I live in India and I don't think these people in slums are happy. They see the middle class people all around them and they are desperate to get out of the slum.

I don't understand how these americans assume they are happy. Just because they say they are happy and smile for the camera, doesn't mean they are.

I visited India last year. Everywhere i went, there were little children begging for coins and homeless people scattered on the streets at night. Place is dirty and corrupt as shit. I felt so sorry for the people there.

Of all the beautiful places all you foreigners somehow manage to find out in India are slums or brothels in cities, cockroaches in trains, beggers/half naked children in stations. Once in a blue moon some upstart american come to India to shoot these scenes of misery only to earn recognition back home..be it slumdog millionaire or born in brothels...and all it does in turn - it further establishes the myth that India is among westerners - "a land of rags and riches" ...such a fucking cliche..

People are complaining that these people are not happy, believe me that they are living more of a stress free life than say US or UK or even Australia and Canada. I really do not like the idea of this. It is going to take a ton of demolishment to local homes in the slum and how many of the residents are actually going to be able to afford a middle class apartment? Also, it's not like they just bought the houses they are currently living in. They actually built the homes themselves and that does give this a much more personal effect.

You're right, there's nothing good about a loveless millionaire. Being poor is not the worse thing to happen to a person but these slums are horrible. There solution is building them 225 sq foot rooms with running water & that's a vast improvement. Now there's poor & then there's destitute, these slums are destitution. Mj, fool, why should it matter whether Indians speak English at all? They're an ancient country 2,500 years old-- they were around well before English was even a language.

Sanskrit and its modern descendants (like Hindi, Marathi) have been used as languages for far longer than English.

So speaking English is a stupid measure of one's level of education. I've met Indians who speak no English, but write brilliantly in Hindi/Tamil (or speak German/French). That's totally fine.

The Grecian style of writing which was influential to the Romans probably had roots in Egyptian hieroglyphics, which in turn was a development of Sumerian script.
