Maybe you could write a rebuttal to Rick Warren. I suggest you call it "The Penis-Driven Life," in which you could describe why one's personal sexual proclivities are the most important facet of their lives.
I like this video. You basically bitch slapped Christianity and turned it whole premise upside down. How would they go about answering your questions? They couldn't... not without leaving you with more questions. I decided a long time ago that people like Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell and Rick Warren are completely full of shit. People like George Carlin and Bill Maher got me there. If religious leaders can't show definitive proof, I won't even listen.
I like the fact that you raise very good questions. There are many things that don't really make sense in religion. I have been trying real hard to make sense of all of this. I think that there is a purpose to our existence but I doubt that Rick Warren can give us the answer.
Welcome to the world of Calvinism. What you've described in the second half of this video is exactly how the God of Calvinism acts. In eternity past, God infallibly and unchangeably decreed everything which comes to pass. It was God's plan for Adam and Eve to disobey him, curse all of humanity with original sin, and create most of mankind with total depravity, entirely incapable of attaining salvation, and inevitably face eternal torment after death - because he likes it. Wonderful, isn't it?
God's stated agenda is for us to become more like him, and His commandments regarding how we should act are geared likewise for this purpose. If He should render us this great service of giving us His wisdom so that we can become perfect, it would be immoral not to heed His commands to further His agenda by serving Him and by giving others His wisdom so that they too can become perfect. God shows his servitude to us like a father does to his children, through guidance.
Our choices are oftentimes dependant on the choices of others. The reason God dosn't intervene is so that mankind's choices are our own. God knows the end result of our choices. The point of making good or bad choices is so that we can judge ourselves without a nanny God. On earth, we ultimately prove to ourselves that we are good or bad and hopefully after learning all we can, seek true righteousness. Like a parent, God knows we can't learn to walk on our own if He's holding our hand.
There are a few fallacies in your argument... First if God wanted us to be like him then why wouldn't he have created us that way. Why does he require a path of suffering and pain for us to reach perfection?
If God is truly omni-benevolent then why has he been such a poor steward of the Earth? Poverty, famine, starvation, tyranny, war, genocide, pain, etc. Why would a supposedly loving God allow these things to occur?
Q) if God wanted us to be like him then why wouldn't he have created us that way?
A) He created us the same way he was created (mormonism) and it's a process of learning that requires suffering, pain, etc. That's how we judge ourselves, we choose what we want for our life and afterlife based on our actions.
Q) Why poor steward?

You still have no logic sense and I'm sure nobody could convince you even with a sledgehammer, because you refuse to give up your believes for personal pride and comfort. If god controls EVERYTHING then you have no choices to make. Everytime you make a decision it couldn't have been otherwise with god having control your DNA and everything little thing you've been exposed to your entire life. Ergo, there is no test in life. But I'm sure you'll rationalize away from this uncomfortable truth.
He can control everything that we see and do if he wanted to but He doesn't. He doesn't micromanage. That's why people complain about bad things happening to good people etc. He knows the outcomes of all of our possible choices. Since we are constantly using our free will to affect the choices of one another much that we see and choose is random. BTW personal pride and comfort has little to do with it
Speaking of the logical fallacies of Terminator. Here's one I have been thinking about:
In the first movie John is born --> John saves Red --> Red goes back in time --> He bones Sarah --> John is born.
However the cycle has an anti-cycle.
That John is born can only happen when Red bones Sarah. Sarah can only get boned when Red goes back in time. Red can only go back in time after John saves him. John can only save Red after he is born.
But how get he be born when his own birth is the cause?
Rick Warren belongs into an authoritarian tradition which his purpose-driven attitude blocks him from escaping out. But he also wrote other books, that - following spiritual Bible teaching - just like buddhist tradition, helps the sufferer (sinner) have a more adjusted life. Ok, it really bothers me how these people cling so naively to creationist nonsense, for instance. But what a wonder, that new generation comes out with this strong rationalism-atheism coupling?!! Uhm... Really?
I'm glad more atheist are coming out of the closet. 20 years from now I'm sure that america will be at least 15% atheist.
It's clear to me that younger people are able to think rationally because they aren't as indoctrinated so conservatively. I love seeing that there are so many atheist in our education institutions.
Atheist will take over america by the end of the century and I'm glad. They already have taken over most of europe.
Of corse, every video you make has a different theme, i suppose. But it all leads back to the same thing. You're an athiest zealot living your life to force your non religion on people who believe that mabey, just mabey there is something to hope for after death rather then rotting in the ground.
You're a hipocrite in absolutely every way possible.
wouldnt it be better if we lived for THIS life... instead of the possibility of a life in the next?
i think that there is a big problem with people living their lives thinking they dont need to worry about anything cuz they get another life after this one...
we need to take care of this planet, atleast until we get off of it.
you have NO evidence for the belief... and even your holy book disagrees with the idea of a life after death...
the bible doesnt say you get an afterlife... it says you wont die....
not only that... it does nothing but condemn the false prophets. deut lays out the law for checking prophecy... and guess what? mark 13 jesus fails the test of prophecy.
And you are a religious zealot. No one forced you to listen however most of your religious friends go out of their way to impose their beliefs on others instead of just sharing their beliefs and leaving the decision up to the person. I am a believer of Jesus The Christ and it's refreshing to have my faith tested by these videos and strengthened by knowing that the Truth(Jesus) will set me free and I have no worries of listening to why others don't believe. We need to listen more than we preach.
This is sad. The point most athiests go about is that crazy religious zealots will 100% of the time force religion on fellow athiests. (your fellow athiests, not mine) You believe in no life after death. So why are you wasting your life making videos that constantly state your point?
And why do you and your people constantly try to preach to everyone everywhere you go. On tv, trying to save the world thinking if you become a missionary you can save people from their problems. You are the hypocrite. He is only trying to honestly share his opinions and never TELLS anyone what to believe unlike most "christians" and just shares his personal belief. It's at least being done in a way you can watch it or not. Unlike you people who go out of your way to condemn others.
Nihilism has the most valid answer, even of god does exist why do we need to know of him, why do we need to be good to get to the afterlife, why do we need the afterlife? NOTHING has a purpose.
I started to believe in Nihilism while I was on an LSD trip and I have believed in it ever since. And I agree with you. Even if there is a god or an afterlife, obviously we are not supposed to know or the answer would be more apparent.
Good video, well said and well thought out. Unfortunately, I've scarcely seen so much spam on a video relative to how many comments it has... What the hell is wrong with some of these people?
Every video she makes has a high percentage of ad hominem attacks by...uh..people who have nothing substantial to say about the content of said videos.
Rick Warren is a Calvinist so that influences his theology and how he phrases things. Serving God is a metaphor, since you cannot actually give anything to God. But God rightfully owns you in every sense- every piece of you belongs to God. You have free will, which means you can choose to be an individual seperate from God. That is called Hell. .
But did God not create everyone as he wants them to be? and does God not control everything? If God cannot control everything, he isn't omnipotent. If he can, then he created me specifically as me out of all the other ways he could have made me knowing exactly how I would turn out. Then, if I choose to sin, it is because he made me knowing that I would do so. He created me knowing that I would sin, so to not sin would be to disobey god. It's logically impossible.
Way to miss my point. Did god create me? if so, could he have made me any way he wanted to, or did he not have a choice? if he did make me the way I am, then he made me knowing all the choices I would make. He doesn't have to force me, he could have just made me in such a way that I would have done it.
The whole thing with God's plan really confused me and was disturbing to me.If god is all loving, then why would god create certain, people if they were planned to go to hell? (especially if we clearly have no choices and everything in our lives are planned in advance)
Hey, GracieGirlie1221 - How do you know that it's not the Devil telling you that. Maybe the Devil has rewritten the bible to confuse us. How could you be sure? Couldn't the bits of the Old Testament telling us to smite our enemies without mercy and to dash out the brains of their children on rocks have been inserted in the text by the Devil. It sure sounds like it.
I really liked your video and your channel. If you need any help getting this video or channel exposed I use a site called tubeviews.(net) It has really helped like 20 of my main videos get to the top in position. God Bless!

Zjemptv, I'm not Rick Warren but I can answer your question about if God planned for you to go to hell...the answer is no. God leaves that choice up to you.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
God is not only omniscient, but also a just and loving God, he cannot be those things without giving us a choice in the matter, that does not however make him any less omniscient.
You cannot be loving, just & omniscient at the same time when you allow innocent people to suffer & die in the most horrible ways when you very well can do something to stop it. You cannot be loving, just, & omniscient at the same time when you create mentally ill people or people with frontal lube impairments that you know will turn out to be serial killers due to this. Your behavoir is 50% nature, what god supposably installed for how you to think & act.
1. Are you seriously telling me that God watches each and every person while they are having sex? Why would he want to do that?
2. Why would God mind about two adults who love one another making one another happy? Surely he should be pleased about that if he wants people to be happy?
sex between a man and a woman is God's idea...Sex between two ppl of the same sex is a perverted idea....God is omnipresent...so yes He's everywhere....how else do you think He knows when your sinning? You can't tell him, because you'll lie to Him. Although He'll also know when your lying. Because He's omiceient too. So when you stand before Him on judgement day You won't be able to lie to Him, because He is a wittness to your actions.
Can you see that you have not give me a *reason* why God should find a loving relationship wrong. You've just said that that is what God thinks, without explaining *why*. If you have a prejudiced view that you cannot justify logically you just say 'Oh, it's not MY prejudice, it is GOD's prejudice' and then say that we have no right to reason why. Your views on what God likes or dislikes are not based on any personal conversation with him - they are just what you have been told or have read.
so do you think that that q'uran shouldn't be read by muslims? And that what they read is superstition, or what they are told by they're priest are lies?
There are lots of books that say lots of different things - each religion and philosophy has its own books. I have read most of them. The only way we can decide which, if any, of these statements is true is through the use of reason. Why should we not use reason to reach our conclusion? Why would it ever be better to blindly accept whatever one group told us without ever asking ourselves 'why?'. How would we know whether we had been born into the group with right beliefs or with the wrong ones?
Yes, I have read and studied both the Bible and the Q'uran. On some issues such as how the Earth and Universe were created and what shape they are both are clearly incorrect. The Bible even has three different creation stories. On ethical issues the two books differ a bit but both are derived from the traditions of the same nomadic tribes. Neither give reasons for their ethical views, other than 'God said so'. We no longer find their views on chopping hands off and death by stoning acceptable.
okay, by what you just wrote....I can tell you don't know what your talking about. Respectully, I disagree with your logic. Why is that? it's obvious you don't deal with facts but just your own thoughts. As to say, everyone else is wrong and i am right...well, your not. Go and speak to a College Bible historian that has studied the Bible and the Q'uran. Get the facts and stop falsly accusing people of what they know. Stoning and hand chopping was the fault of sinful humans..not God.
HOW would you test whether the creation stories in the Bible and the Q'uran were factually correct or incorrect? We can SEE that layers of rock have been laid down and mountains worn away over periods of millions of years. We can TEST the bones of dinosaurs to prove that they are hundreds of millions of years old. So the world cannot have been created 5000 years ago, We can OBSERVE the Earth from space and see that it is spherical not flat and square - whatever the Bible says.
Why don't you become open minded and actully listen to a creation scientist. And not be so closed mined. And then do a comparison. Oh, and the Bible says the earth is round...another false statement of yours. How do you date a rock? and don't tell me "you ask it out" and don't tell me radio metric dating. Go and findout what the inventor of the radio metric dating says about how far back it really dates something. Evolutionist dates a rock by circular reasoning.
If it's in the Bible doesn't mean it's supported by the Bible..The Bible doesn't hold back on how sinful and evil humans can be.. Like i said before God never had a boys hand cut off.. Provide me with the chapter and verse please. So i can read it myself.
Bible - Deuteronomy 25:11-12 "This is what you must do when two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from the man who is beating him. If she tries to stop the fight by grabbing the other man's genitals, cut off her hand. Have no pity on her."
Q'uran - Sura 5:38 "Cut off the hands of thieves, whether they are male or female, as punishment for what they have done"
As far as the verse "if your hand cause you to sin cut it off" This is a hyperbole, a figure of speech in which exaggeration is used to emphasize a point. Jesus used hyperbole here to get his listeners attention. Sin is deadly and serious: radical measures are required to eradicate it. As for the Q'uran, it really means cut off the hands.
I'll repeat my original question. HOW do you decide whether something advocated in the Bible or Q'uran is moral or immoral? How do YOU decide whether you think chopping off hands, raping virgins or whatever may be justified in these texts is acceptable to YOU? Would you accept ANYTHING that these books said or do you have your own independent moral judgement?
For a third and final time: HOW do you decide whether something advocated in the Bible or Q'uran is moral or immoral? You can't answer the question, you won't answer the question, you keep evading the question with distractions - because your so-called 'morality' is based upon nothing but blind obedience to tradition and you refuse to think for yourself. Unless you attempt to answer the question I might as well end this discussion.
shanana000 - you have lost the discussion. You can provide NO justification for your religious prejudices. As stated before, I decide what is right and what is wrong on the basis of whether or not it causes suffering to others. Fair, Just, Logical, Simple. You can provide NO REASONS for your positions. End of discussion.
The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others." - John Stuart Mill
Thank you. At last - a logical reply. It is correct, reasonable, logical..... and it requires no scripture, religious belief or god in order to make sense. It is a position advocated by ancient greek philosophers, Indian philosophers, buddhists and atheists as well as by Jesus. It is a principle that rules out many things found in the bible - such as slavery, the sale of women and the murder of your enemy's children. It also rules out the denial of equal rights to gay and lesbian people.
If I rape a virgin should I be made to buy her from her father and make her live with me for the rest of her life? Does this Bible tradition sound acceptable? Deuteronomy 22:28-29 says "This is what you must do when a man rapes a virgin who isn't engaged. When the crime is discovered, the man who had sexual intercourse with her must give the girl's father 11/4 pounds of silver, and she will become his wife. Since he raped her, he can never divorce her as long as he lives."
In that time and culture if a woman wasn't a virgin she wasn't desirable for marriage...So that is why the man that raped her had to marry her. It also ensured that the man did not get away with his original intention-sex without marriage. As far as having to pay the father, Hebrew men contracted their Marriages in that era. That's how it was, not how God planned it but how man made it. Don't confuse the two.
shanana000 - until you learn to reason for yourself rather than just unquestioningly believing whatever a religious sect or book tells you you are not fully a human being. If we abandon reason for superstition then any form of barbaric oppression becomes justifiable. It is the refusal to use reason rather than prejudice that enabled the churches to support slavery and segregation. Before that the churches killed jews and burned 'witches' alive - all because it was supposedly the 'will of God''.
God's plan is to give choice. He does not constrict the ones he loves, does not force love; he doesn't want us to be robots. He has a plan set for you, or me, or whoever you would like to fill space "X" with. He gives you the oppertunities to carry out you plan. But he also gives you the freedom of choice. If he made you a "Robot" that couldn't do anything in free will, then what kind of loving god is he. Through that choice, you can chose to follow the path, or create one of your own.
I enjoyed the video but let me suggest another perspective. God created us to "love" him. However, you can't love without choosing to do so, therefore "free will." Given free will people make a choice "for" God and some "against" God. The choice, then is not God's (your assertion of "predestination"), it is our's. His "choice" is to love us back, even when we don't respond. Like a parent, our kids don't always respond to our love, but we continue loving them anyway. God just does it better.
1. Every man is entitled to his belief. To those that do not like (or do not agree with) what ZJ said, one should discuss the raised issues like civilised adults and not make idle threats.
2. It is comforting that there are others out there that find it perplexing how Institutionised Christianity (which has at its core what seems like a fundamental contradiction e.g true free will vs supreme omnipresence) can prosper without challenge.
3. I look forward to your dicussion on 'the time paradox'.
Rev. Rick Warren has been best described as Jerry Falwell in a hawaiian shirt.. and as Hitchens often says: the title reverend is something people have to live down, not live up to. The guy is a businessman of the most obvious kind, pimping jesus to all his Saddleback hoes. He clearly believes anyone who isn't part of his ideology is always wrong and destined to 'hell', funny to see him backsliding on his own positions now due to the gay backlash.
yeah i got that book as well from my sister, posted from the other side of the world... i was highly disapointed when i opened the parcel to discover it wasnt the beef Jekey I was expecting though there was a fair size piece to create the ilusion :( i thought what the hell ill give it a read but 3 pages or so in of bull I gave up ... I keep it around in case she visits and I can stick it somewhere seeable.. The sadness that it wasnt a big hunk of Jerkey still lingers ..
Homosexuality is an abberation and needs to be fixed. Fortunately I think Obama will give more funding for stem cell research so we can come up with a more lasting cure.
Homosexuality occurs in over 1500 species and seems to cause those species no problems. Homophobia is only observed in humans and causes lots of suffering so certainly needs to be cured. Fortunately just teaching people general literacy and reasoning skills can cure the problem. Homophobia is highest in the US states with the poorest education levels and highest illiteracy.
Humans ARE a species of animal, they are the most intelligent species of primates. Unlike other species, we can choose to use our brains to work out what is right and what is wrong. We can see logically that some natural behavior like rape and violence is wrong - because it causes suffering - and some natural behavior - like homosexuality or affection or masturbation - causes no suffering and so is not wrong. If you let go of superstition and use logic you will see this is true.
terminator 3 not 2, also dont say God didnt serve man, this is the purpose of the Incarnation, I do not know or care for Warrens theology really, but in orthodox christianity we all have free will, God has knowledge of all things in advance as He knows what we will do with our freewill, God only predestined the good, He predestines no one to damnation, going to hell is a persons own fault
Sure TomConger if by "by negligence, predestines the bad as well means" means He allows for freewill, which is man's actions, not God's, then yes. God predestines all to heaven, but this can only happen if man is obedient to the Divine Will, if they choose by their freewill to do evil and go against the Will of God, they will go to hell. What I am getting at Tom is that you're wrong.
It's not predestination if it doesn't follow through... You can not say that I'm predestined to go to heaven if I'm not actually going to heaven. You can say that God wants us to all go to heaven, but if he knows I'm not going there, then it's not predestination. Predestination is set in stone. If God knows the future, then the future is set in stone as well. If God knows I'm going to hell based on my choices, my destiny is not to go to heaven.
Good decision on your part to have chosen the feminin side because you truely look like a lesbian.

except your idea of a "next life" is baseless
you have NO evidence for the belief... and even your holy book disagrees with the idea of a life after death...
the bible doesnt say you get an afterlife... it says you wont die....
not only that... it does nothing but condemn the false prophets. deut lays out the law for checking prophecy... and guess what? mark 13 jesus fails the test of prophecy.

We need to listen more than we preach.
techno516 2 years ago
This is sad. The point most athiests go about is that crazy religious zealots will 100% of the time force religion on fellow athiests. (your fellow athiests, not mine) You believe in no life after death. So why are you wasting your life making videos that constantly state your point?
TakeaChill05 2 years ago
Because some people actually want to watch them. Like me for instance?
galaxypirate 2 years ago
And why do you and your people constantly try to preach to everyone everywhere you go. On tv, trying to save the world thinking if you become a missionary you can save people from their problems. You are the hypocrite. He is only trying to honestly share his opinions and never TELLS anyone what to believe unlike most "christians" and just shares his personal belief. It's at least being done in a way you can watch it or not. Unlike you people who go out of your way to condemn others.
techno516 2 years ago
Christianity is just a cop out.
Nihilism has the most valid answer, even of god does exist why do we need to know of him, why do we need to be good to get to the afterlife, why do we need the afterlife? NOTHING has a purpose.
MorkaGraven 2 years ago
I started to believe in Nihilism while I was on an LSD trip and I have believed in it ever since. And I agree with you. Even if there is a god or an afterlife, obviously we are not supposed to know or the answer would be more apparent.

That is called Hell. .
Magnulus76 2 years ago
But did God not create everyone as he wants them to be? and does God not control everything? If God cannot control everything, he isn't omnipotent. If he can, then he created me specifically as me out of all the other ways he could have made me knowing exactly how I would turn out. Then, if I choose to sin, it is because he made me knowing that I would do so. He created me knowing that I would sin, so to not sin would be to disobey god. It's logically impossible.
BornInAsphodelMeadow 2 years ago
God is not omnipotent in the sense he can make you do things against your will.
Magnulus76 2 years ago
Way to miss my point. Did god create me? if so, could he have made me any way he wanted to, or did he not have a choice? if he did make me the way I am, then he made me knowing all the choices I would make. He doesn't have to force me, he could have just made me in such a way that I would have done it.

The whole thing with God's plan really confused me and was disturbing to me.If god is all loving, then why would god create certain, people if they were planned to go to hell? (especially if we clearly have no choices and everything in our lives are planned in advance)
MonkeyOctober 2 years ago
You asked (I paraphrase) "does God create some people knowing that they're lives will end in burning in hell for all eternity?"
Why yes, he does. Romans 9:
"Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?"

God planned for you to be with Him in Heaven someday. But then the Devil got in the way.
GracieGirlie1221 2 years ago
Hey, GracieGirlie1221 - How do you know that it's not the Devil telling you that. Maybe the Devil has rewritten the bible to confuse us. How could you be sure? Couldn't the bits of the Old Testament telling us to smite our enemies without mercy and to dash out the brains of their children on rocks have been inserted in the text by the Devil. It sure sounds like it.

God is not only omniscient, but also a just and loving God, he cannot be those things without giving us a choice in the matter, that does not however make him any less omniscient.

1. Are you seriously telling me that God watches each and every person while they are having sex? Why would he want to do that?
2. Why would God mind about two adults who love one another making one another happy? Surely he should be pleased about that if he wants people to be happy?
maitriparamita 2 years ago
sex between a man and a woman is God's idea...Sex between two ppl of the same sex is a perverted idea....God is omnipresent...so yes He's everywhere....how else do you think He knows when your sinning? You can't tell him, because you'll lie to Him. Although He'll also know when your lying. Because He's omiceient too. So when you stand before Him on judgement day You won't be able to lie to Him, because He is a wittness to your actions.
shanana000 2 years ago
Can you see that you have not give me a *reason* why God should find a loving relationship wrong. You've just said that that is what God thinks, without explaining *why*. If you have a prejudiced view that you cannot justify logically you just say 'Oh, it's not MY prejudice, it is GOD's prejudice' and then say that we have no right to reason why. Your views on what God likes or dislikes are not based on any personal conversation with him - they are just what you have been told or have read.
maitriparamita 2 years ago
so do you think that that q'uran shouldn't be read by muslims? And that what they read is superstition, or what they are told by they're priest are lies?
shanana000 2 years ago
There are lots of books that say lots of different things - each religion and philosophy has its own books. I have read most of them. The only way we can decide which, if any, of these statements is true is through the use of reason. Why should we not use reason to reach our conclusion? Why would it ever be better to blindly accept whatever one group told us without ever asking ourselves 'why?'. How would we know whether we had been born into the group with right beliefs or with the wrong ones?
maitriparamita 2 years ago
So have you read the Bible and the Q'uran? and if yes, then which one is right? And can you tell me your reasons and your logic as to why?
shanana000 2 years ago
Yes, I have read and studied both the Bible and the Q'uran. On some issues such as how the Earth and Universe were created and what shape they are both are clearly incorrect. The Bible even has three different creation stories. On ethical issues the two books differ a bit but both are derived from the traditions of the same nomadic tribes. Neither give reasons for their ethical views, other than 'God said so'. We no longer find their views on chopping hands off and death by stoning acceptable.
maitriparamita 2 years ago
okay, by what you just wrote....I can tell you don't know what your talking about. Stoning and hand chopping was the fault of sinful humans..not God.
shanana000 2 years ago
HOW would you test whether the creation stories in the Bible and the Q'uran were factually correct or incorrect? We can SEE that layers of rock have been laid down and mountains worn away over periods of millions of years. We can TEST the bones of dinosaurs to prove that they are hundreds of millions of years old. So the world cannot have been created 5000 years ago, We can OBSERVE the Earth from space and see that it is spherical not flat and square - whatever the Bible says.
maitriparamita 2 years ago
Why don't you become open minded and actully listen to a creation scientist. And not be so closed mined. And then do a comparison. Oh, and the Bible says the earth is round...another false statement of yours. How do you date a rock? and don't tell me "you ask it out" and don't tell me radio metric dating. Go and findout what the inventor of the radio metric dating says about how far back it really dates something. Evolutionist dates a rock by circular reasoning.

On ethics, do you think a boy who steals an apple should have his hand cut off as recommended in Bible and the Q'uran?
maitriparamita 2 years ago
If it's in the Bible doesn't mean it's supported by the Bible..The Bible doesn't hold back on how sinful and evil humans can be.. Like i said before God never had a boys hand cut off.. Provide me with the chapter and verse please. So i can read it myself.
shanana000 2 years ago
Bible - Mark 9:43 "If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off"
Bible - Matthew 5:30 - as above
Bible - Deuteronomy 25:11-12 "This is what you must do when two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from the man who is beating him. If she tries to stop the fight by grabbing the other man's genitals, cut off her hand. Have no pity on her."
Q'uran - Sura 5:38 "Cut off the hands of thieves, whether they are male or female, as punishment for what they have done"
maitriparamita 2 years ago 2
As far as the verse "if your hand cause you to sin cut it off" This is a hyperbole, a figure of speech in which exaggeration is used to emphasize a point. Jesus used hyperbole here to get his listeners attention. Sin is deadly and serious: radical measures are required to eradicate it. As for the Q'uran, it really means cut off the hands.
shanana000 2 years ago
I'll repeat my original question. HOW do you decide whether something advocated in the Bible or Q'uran is moral or immoral? How do YOU decide whether you think chopping off hands, raping virgins or whatever may be justified in these texts is acceptable to YOU? Would you accept ANYTHING that these books said or do you have your own independent moral judgement?

No where in the Bible does God tell anyone to cut of a boys hand.
shanana000 2 years ago
For a third and final time: HOW do you decide whether something advocated in the Bible or Q'uran is moral or immoral? You can't answer the question, you won't answer the question, you keep evading the question with distractions - because your so-called 'morality' is based upon nothing but blind obedience to tradition and you refuse to think for yourself. Unless you attempt to answer the question I might as well end this discussion.
maitriparamita 2 years ago 2
Facts, logic and reason. And How do you?
shanana000 2 years ago
shanana000 - you have lost the discussion. You can provide NO justification for your religious prejudices. As stated before, I decide what is right and what is wrong on the basis of whether or not it causes suffering to others. Fair, Just, Logical, Simple. You can provide NO REASONS for your positions. End of discussion.
The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others." - John Stuart Mill

shanana000 2 years ago
It also rules out the denial of equal rights to gay and lesbian people.
maitriparamita 2 years ago 3
If I rape a virgin should I be made to buy her from her father and make her live with me for the rest of her life? Does this Bible tradition sound acceptable? Deuteronomy 22:28-29 says "This is what you must do when a man rapes a virgin who isn't engaged. When the crime is discovered, the man who had sexual intercourse with her must give the girl's father 11/4 pounds of silver, and she will become his wife. Since he raped her, he can never divorce her as long as he lives."
maitriparamita 2 years ago
In that time and culture if a woman wasn't a virgin she wasn't desirable for marriage...So that is why the man that raped her had to marry her. It also ensured that the man did not get away with his original intention-sex without marriage. As far as having to pay the father, Hebrew men contracted their Marriages in that era. That's how it was, not how God planned it but how man made it. Don't confuse the two.
shanana000 2 years ago
shanana000 - until you learn to reason for yourself rather than just unquestioningly believing whatever a religious sect or book tells you you are not fully a human being.

Through that choice, you can chose to follow the path, or create one of your own.
wolf1125634 3 years ago

He clearly believes anyone who isn't part of his ideology is always wrong and destined to 'hell', funny to see him backsliding on his own positions now due to the gay backlash.

carlsagan83 3 years ago
Homosexuality occurs in over 1500 species and seems to cause those species no problems. Homophobia is only observed in humans and causes lots of suffering so certainly needs to be cured. Fortunately just teaching people general literacy and reasoning skills can cure the problem. Homophobia is highest in the US states with the poorest education levels and highest illiteracy.
maitriparamita 2 years ago
then why don't you take animal hormones and become an animal...maybe that's what you really are.
shanana000 2 years ago
Humans ARE a species of animal, they are the most intelligent species of primates. Unlike other species, we can choose to use our brains to work out what is right and what is wrong. We can see logically that some natural behavior like rape and violence is wrong - because it causes suffering - and some natural behavior - like homosexuality or affection or masturbation - causes no suffering and so is not wrong. If you let go of superstition and use logic you will see this is true.

terminator 3 not 2, also dont say God didnt serve man, this is the purpose of the Incarnation, I do not know or care for Warrens theology really, but in orthodox christianity we all have free will, God has knowledge of all things in advance as He knows what we will do with our freewill, God only predestined the good, He predestines no one to damnation, going to hell is a persons own fault
theruteger 3 years ago
Actually, I think the time paradox applies to all three movies, I just mentioned the second because it's the best (in my opinion).
ZJemptv 3 years ago
If God predestines the good, then he, by negligence, predestines the bad as well.
That's just silly.
TomConger 3 years ago
Sure TomConger if by "by negligence, predestines the bad as well means" means He allows for freewill, which is man's actions, not God's, then yes. God predestines all to heaven, but this can only happen if man is obedient to the Divine Will, if they choose by their freewill to do evil and go against the Will of God, they will go to hell. What I am getting at Tom is that you're wrong.
theruteger 3 years ago
It's not predestination if it doesn't follow through... You can not say that I'm predestined to go to heaven if I'm not actually going to heaven. You can say that God wants us to all go to heaven, but if he knows I'm not going there, then it's not predestination. Predestination is set in stone. If God knows the future, then the future is set in stone as well. If God knows I'm going to hell based on my choices, my destiny is not to go to heaven.
Got it?

Well, I guess some can be said to be predestined to hell based on their actions
