Chuck Fleer is the man!! i have known him for years... i hear the story i know what happened... and its hard to have your sails up with 60 knot winds gusts...
I overheard some folks of B.C. in a SF clubhouse discuss what they heard on their VHF having endured this same storm, and a few moments later one them had this video on their phone to share. About the boat... not there at the moment however, if vikingtype speaks truth about this boat's owners, then it was likely not ready for open water sailing either. As a sailor/liveaboard myself, I've met more mistresses of boat owners than I do wives; 10:1. It's the boats that suffer in the end.
Didn't know the rescued couple's history... we just thought it was cool that the Coast Guard captured it on video. Oh, and it went along with a story about boating rescues over Labor Day weekend on the Daily Boater...
Chuck Fleer is MARRIED and was fleeing Washington State jurisdiction and being served with divorce papers. The bimbo on board was the OTHER WOMAN he was cheating with. He absconded with the boat which was jointly owned by his WIFE and set sail to Hawaii. He has little or no offshore sailing experience and left without cruising insurance; an item required by the divorce papers he was avoiding. In my opinion, he is a sleazebag whose karma finally caught up with him.

If you look closely . .. .the sail covers are still on! Still no sign of the coward - he won't even face his WIFE to be served with divorce papers.
