Have enjoyed this version for a zillion years as it was from the Roulette series of albums , I believe. His playing has inspired me for the last 50 yrs. Having a lot available here is icing on the cake. I don't hear a problem with the lower notes.
I agree with too much high register. Its like Mariah starting in the 4th octive and staying there. Some of his earlier works such as Country Road and Give it One are really great with that big band sound and just enough hi range. I have seen Maynard in concert many times and he put on a great show always bringing young new talent, guys that were really awsome, including other instruments as well as hi register trumpeters.
I hate Maynard Ferguson's arrangements. Do any trumpet players like this dude? I wish I could do what he does, but I never liked the over blowing in the high registers that he is so famous for. Just give me some Allen Vizzutti please...
Sandoval? Vizzuti? Ferguson?
Keep em, in regards to this piece.
I'll take Rafa Mendez any day for Virgen.

@plasticgunlover
Are you insane? He's not overblowing in his upper register. He makes that sound easy!! If anything, it's his LOWER register he is overblowing in.
Vizutti can do this too,but his upper register sounds nothing like maynard. Both are amazing players,but Maynard has way better control. ...
4:09 is where you can hear problems with low notes. But his upper register? come on...use your hear....
Not trying to disrespect you or anything.

Espectacular. Sobrenatural. Cada uno tiene su estilo pero lo tocan de muerte todos.

@OrodesIII Maybe they were going for more of a "jazzy" feel? I get the "pan flute tent at the state fair" kind of feel though I'm afraid.
