Most of the people in this crowd are American. Wiesbaden is home to our largest Army community in Germany, and is right up the road from our largest Air Force base in Germany. Having lived in Germany for many years, I can tell you that American military members and their families attend a lot of these concerts. Add'ly, Snipe was an Army brat in Germany growing up.

I remember the 03 tour in Warsaw. It was so amazing. When they played "drive" I asked Stipe to sweem around the audience like in the video but he refused. I was so delighted that he got into reacion with me that I could die that day.

As an American I think REM is a national treasure . I also think that European audiences at rock concerts are vastly superior to American audiences .

At American shows its really only the first twenty rows or so who are clapping and getting into it ... at European shows the guy in the last row is clapping , hands in the air just like the guy in the first row . Maybe the Europeans are actually there for the music and the Americans are just there to see and be seen ... i dont know

R.E.M.'s music contains a depth that is lacking in the pop music today. This audience appreciates that depth and can feel the music. Music loving Germans "hate" neighbors who are not willing to accept they´re playing their music with doors opened to the garden in the summer - mostly such "neighbors" even have sleeping problems in other ways + should consult good doctors instead of getting on the nerves of their neighbors who love life+are no sleeping pills.

If you watch these REM concerts in Germany you can bet that half of them are gay or lesbian + the rest is bisexual...LOL

Though it does play Permanent Vacation which actually was never recorded (you can now get it on iTunes), Peter DID write the line-up with the album "In Time:The best or R.E.M. 1988-2003" in mind. If you want to listen to music by them that is lesser known listen to the album REM Live at the Olympia. And the DVD REM LIVE! does have many popular songs by them, it also has alot of songs people do not listen to as much.
