I am sure you will all be happy to hear RichardElden's account has been disabled by YouTube. That disgraceful excuse for a human being shall trouble us no more.
@RichardElden If he was, so what? That had no bearing on his policies. Any British prime minister of that era would have accepted that it was going to be impossible to carry on trying to be an Empire. It's not as if only a gay man could have come to that conclusion. And it's not as if there'd never been any gay imperialists, to look at the other side of the coin. Look at Cecil Rhodes, for a start.
@RichardElden Evil? WHAT evil? The theft of land, resources, and human dignity to build any Empire is the true evil. Neither Britain, France, Germany, Belgium or "Austria-Hungary" had any right to take the rest of the world by force as their own private property.
No people has the right to subjugate any other people.
@RichardElden Because we could just about afford it at that point. You clearly don't understand economics. We were so bankrupt after WW2, trying to keep India was like trying to swim with a heavyweight on their back. Not to mention India deserved it's independence after it bravely helped us fight in the war.
@RichardElden You're such an unoriginal troll. You don't even use variety. You're supposed to make creative insults when you're trying to be a troll, dumbass. You can't just repeat yourself like a parrot.
It is very difficult to work out the greatest PM of all time. Churchill is a legend for being a wartime hero, not for his premiership, therefore I will count him out of the list. But I think the top three, in no order, are Clement Attlee, Herbert Asquith, and David Lloyd George. Churchill was a very good Liberal but he is remembered for being a brilliant war leader, not necessarily a brilliant PM.
The best PM we've had. He was what a Labour politician should be: in favour of the workers, fairness (i.e. people genuinely in trouble and unable to work being helped, not to mention implementing the Beveridge report that eventually brought us the NHS) and true to his word. He was radical and helped shape the good things about this country that still play a prominent part today. He built us the new Jerusalem and was all substance.
@MrGann88 You seem to know quite a bit about Clement Attlee. Feel free to share your knowledge on any of our clips. We would love to hear more. Thank you for the great comments and don't forget to subscribe.
@MrGann88 Absolutely. It was so very right that he be voted Labour's greatest hero by the Guardian. Even Thatcher praised him, man of substance and no show. A Great man.
@MrGann88 yes.... but he did not bring the NHS, it was actually David Lloyd George (liberal) who introduced the NHS as part of the ground breaking liberal reforms (including free school meals, ban on child abuse, children's charter, working mens insurance, National insurance, Old age pensions, youth prisons, juvenile court, ban on underage smoking, labour exchanges and many other things we now take for granted....) so i would rethink who was the "best pm we've had"....
@BAG399 No, I am afraid that you are quite wrong. David Lloyd George (as the Chancellor) with Asquith as the PM introduced many ground breaking reforms. These range from things such as removing the right of absolute veto from the Lords and (as you say) old age pensions, but the NHS was not even dreamed of while DLG was in power. The NHS was an idea conceived in the Beveridge Report and implemented by Attlee and Bevan in the 1945-1951 Labour government.
@BAG399 Not sure if you're trolling or just stupid. The bottom line is that while Lloyd George brought about much reforms between 1906-1914, the NHS was formed in 1948 by Bevan and Attlee.
@MrGann88 This Prime Minister was not the best we've ever had. I disagree totally. He broke up the empire, opened the flood gates regarding immigration, borrowed so much money from the US that we virtually became a new state there (all so he could bribe selfish doctors to follow his NHS plan) and stregthened union miltiancy. All Clememt Attlee was was Lenin without a beard. Now if you want to talk about a true legend at the helm of British politics, let's talk about Margaret Thatcher.

@RichardElden The Empire had to end. The time when such things could be sustained was over.
And no nation has a right to turn any other nation into its colony anyway.
