  • WHEN DAVE GOES 'AHHHHHHHH' AT 3.23, SON

  • they should have a show in temecula!!!

  • i challenge anyone who thinks that they are good at guitar to play this song

  • this is my 5th time hearing this today. its so amazing

  • dude....

  • @brandonwrightmusic this song is so sexy lol

  • this song is like the indie of indie's.

  • I should quit guitar now.

  • @discomagician the songs prettty easy actually just some of the multiple hammer ons he does makes it seem super complex

  • yeah, composition is too messy for me :|

  • Holy fucking shit, this is soooooooooo good! I can't stop listening to it.

  • i would die if i saw this band live play with radiohead

  • I do not get this album pic.

  • thumbs up if yu think this should be on rockband

  • this song reminds me of the country or like on a roadtrip

  • I grew up in Tmec. From my window growing up, I could see the sunrise over it's wine country. I lived on the outskirts of the housing development.

  • I would put this in the Top 5 of best guitar solos of all time. Definitely.

  • SA Martinez sent me!

  • There are no basements in Temecula houses, so I don't know what this song is talking about. ha

  • in all actuality, there is nothing special about sunrise in Temecula; I have to see it every day. Dirty Projectors still rock though.

  • this = :D :D :D :D

  • @poopiepants0410 I'm sorry, I really didn't mean to downvote you, it was really a slip of my hand.

In repayment I'll thumb up every thing on your profile.

My bad, you have a good day.

  • 4:12 "I know the horizon is bright and motionless

Like an EKG of a dying woman" - amazing lyric

  • and what hits the spot yeah, like gatorade. you and me baby.....

  • Lolllllllllllll, I love how the music is all over the place<3

  • The Manson Family Band. LOLZ

  • This song is so beautiful.. As a musician I can only admire. He's on par with the dudes from Beatles when it comes to creating songs.

  • @PorroFirst False statement is false.

  • i like that the time signatures are all over the place

if you listen to classical music such as bela bartok you hear a lot of those weird time signature things that sound like mistakes

  • THIS SONG MAKES EVERY OTHER SONG RELATIVELY UNLISTENABLE

  • sorry but to me this song was really bad, the beat was off with the singing i didnt like the singing at all. but im sure there is lots of people that disagree

  • Hipsters, all a' yall!

  • Thumbs up if you live in Temecula?

  • fleetwood mac much??

  • I have dreams about music like this

  • the song has a great sound

  • Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, I lose my shit at 2:00 everytime.

  • and plus gatorade always hits the spot cocksuckers, have any of you lazy fucks ever exercised?

  • @jkininji hahaha awesome comment.

  • I'm confused. I live in the city of Temecula, CA...look it up. How is this song related to my town?? The definition of Temecula, maybe. But this song is just wack!

  • The face of earth will be white?

    Da hell?

    2:32

  • @TheNewWiseMan72 yeah, i don't get it either. those two lines there just stink of racism.

  • @TheNewWiseMan72

    Snow, cocaine (probably not)

  • @TheNewWiseMan72 hes referring to another ice age

  • @TheNewWiseMan72 Not to mention "There's a space for you in my basement." Is this Josef Fritzl singing or what?

  • @TheNewWiseMan72 i think it is the "face of earth will be wiped" as in wiped off the face of the earth. even though most lyrical interpretations of the song online say "white" i think it makes more sense. but then again, dave longstreth is a genius and has also been known to make remarks on society and it could be a play on words. though it could be white like a canvas, mixing an indian paintbrush and brown finches in it. watch the video where he discusses the song.

  • @TheNewWiseMan72 Snow. Retard

  • @TheNewWiseMan72 it's actually 'the face earth will be wiped'

  • @TheNewWiseMan72 White, or wide.. or wiped.

  • @TheNewWiseMan72

not sure if someone replied but its actually "wiped" not white

  • @TheNewWiseMan72 Yeah... I think it's called snow :)

  • @TheNewWiseMan72 wiped...

  • God, I love this album so much.. I just keep saying it.

  • yep. nothing good ever came out of temecula.

  • I love this song SO MUCH!

  • I was in Temecula for the first time today and kept thinking of this song

  • I'm getting such a Yes/Steve Howe vibe on this

  • @TheDustyWilk Yeah!, me too! I thought exactly the same the first time I heard this song... I was thinking "Am I the only one here hearing this?" Since I didn't see any comments about it. But there you are...Absolutely YES influenced sound. Harmonies and tempo. No doubt..

  • @vivelavidarocka if only the melody was a tad more Jon Anderson-ish, but oh well

  • haha why does everybody hate nickelback so bad, i like this song but i can still like nickelback right?

  • they should sing ahhhhhhh Temecula Nightmare... ahhhhhh Temecula Nightmare ahhhhh that place sucks!

  • Btw, this is the best guitar solo EVER.

  • So goooooDDDDD!!!! I love it more than life itsefl.. Look at that, I can't even spell itseLF correctly 'cause I'm so excited..

  • i didn't know don caballero was into the whole andrew bird thing

  • Im going to start off by saying that this account was created souly to comment on this video, becasue i read the comments and could not sleep without doing so myself. Not intresed in who said what , only that who ever thinks this is anything short of brilliance is reatrded. Sorry to be iggnorant but personally, I cant get through the song without sobbing like a baby. If the moving flow, intriguing lyrics, complex riffs and beats arnt screaming genius then the amazingly unique composition should

  • alot of my best friends live in temecula, crazy they made a song about it!

  • I only like the live versions. Sorry. Don't know why, but on studio sucks and live rocks...

  • zorgitron is in love with the dirty projectors... lol

  • i wonder if the title of this tune is alluding to the Don Henley "thing" (for a lack of a better word). I don't know much about it, but apparently there was some contentious correspondence or legal matter going on before.

  • I feel like the production is a bit too clean on this record. But still, fantastic music. Total joy. I don;t care how cool or intelligent it is supposed to be. It just makes me smile and makes me confused at the same time.

  • I am passionate about music but its just a song for fucks sake.....

  • I fucking hate Temecula. Truckbeasts and vapid girls. Nice song, except for the singing.

  • This song fucking embodies everything. fuck the haters. enjoy the perfection.

  • This song fucking embodies everything. fuck the haters. enjoy the perfection.

  • Does the guitar play on this song remind anyone else of Steve Howe.

  • @thecrimsonfloyd such an under-rated, yet incredible guitarist.

  • honestly there is a simple solution to disliking it. Dont fucking listen, and quit hatin ya bastards

  • @zorgitron sooo i've noticed you've commented on like 3 dirty projector videos & profess that you don't like them. why do that? you're either a troll or love being a contratrian that just has to have someone disagree with you that bad.

  • @katinkers You don't have to be a troll OR a contrarian to hate Dirty Projectors. It only takes a human of average intelligence to hate Dirty Projectors . They are weak, aimless musicians with an obnoxiously confused and pretentious fan base. It is only natural to detest them.

  • oh god...i'm in love with this.

  • This beat is so goddamn disjointed. I like it though.

  • what hits the spot -yeah- like gheytorade?

  • I love it. its different. they don't follow the same path as everyone else. Its new and inventive. totally hooked on em.

  • Time signatures or not, this music just has no texture or mood. Sounds like instruments. Good music sounds like something more than what it is. Congratulations to their marketers; they've found a way to profit off of children playing instruments.

  • @zorgitron

troll harder. (texture and mood are totally subjective. there's also no possible way you or anyone else could denote what 'good music' is.)

  • @xvvk Hey man you'd troll too if something you just plain didn't enjoy was forced upon you day after day like a religion. I wouldn't mind this music except that people misunderstand it and try to defend it like it's some sort of high art, which it is not. But yeah, trolling is useless. To try and believe that idiots are not idiots is idiotic.

  • @zorgitron you dont like music, do you?

  • @teganyavo Ah yes, if I hate the Dirty Projectors then I must hate all music. That makes sense. Dirty Projectors DO represent all music ever made by anyone, since they are so damn brilliant and extraordinary. Every genre of music from every place on Earth, and every emotion felt by humans is represented perfectly by this dreamy, well spoken, Yale graduate and his equally dreamy female comrades. Yet, I dislike them, because I am the Anti-Christ dwelling in Hell. I apologize, but it's my nature.

  • @zorgitron

no dude your not the anti-Christ your just a passive aggressive troll.

I've read your other comments bout the dirty projectors and its obvious that you just want negative attention just you comment how much they suck on a lot of their videos.

If you don't like them then why are you spending so much time listening to them?!

  • @vcshort1 I honestly hate them, that's the only reason I commented so much. No further listening is needed for further commenting. If I'm just a passive aggressive troll who needs attention, why are you replying to my comments? Can't you just move along? I guess you felt like you must something. When I heard DP, it was just so excruciatingly bad that I felt that I must alert people.

  • @zorgitron

"I guess you felt like you must something."

You are a idiot who does not make sense and projects his musical frustrations on to truly inspiring music. That is what your alerting to people.

I reply to your comments because your are WRONG about the dirty projectors.

"When I heard DP, it was just so excruciatingly bad that I felt that I must alert people. " is a lie.

You want negative attention and i am done wasting my time trying to defend the apotheosis of this generation.

    *TROLL*

  • @vcshort1 Thank you for replying again, and giving me more negative attention. I'm glad you know so much about me.

  • @zorgitron Just replying because I once hated the Dirty Projectors too. Their early work sucks. No question. But their music changes immensely after 'The Getty Address' which is an opera. I think they learned a lot from that project and it's reflected in 'Bitte Orca'. You don't have to like every song by an artist to like or at least respect what they try to do. If you can let your pride slide and give them another listen, you might find, it's not all bad. 'I Will Truck' is a personal favorite.

  • @sarj2490 I could certainly respect what they do, but as you might see from the comments, they get a lot of credit that they don't deserve. Their fans are extremely obnoxious, fanatical, pretentious, and pushy as well. I just think it's a travesty that they think this music is an intellectual milestone of some sort.

  • @zorgitron you might consider the fact that you are watching a video of DP. people are irrationally passionate about all sorts of things: music, music, politics and simply by clicking on of the related vids I saw a comment on how animal collection was "pretentious shit" and someone who responded "fuck off, music-impaired truckbeast." the point is you have to pick your battles and is DP really one of them? aren't there more impt things in life to get upset about?

  • @sarj2490 You're right, this is just a blip in history, completely unimportant. I just can't stand how DP fanboys think that they can insult the intelligence of anyone who doesn't agree with their weak music. I don't see appreciators of other genres do this.

  • @zorgitron HAhaha are you kidding? Everyone on Youtube does that you mad human you.

  • Time signature?

  • 4/4 feel with triplet subdivisions = 12/8. there are a lot of tempo changes. heavy swinging too. when the tempo changes the feel(what counts are accented) usually changes too. in the beginning it's easy to count '1-2-3-4.' just be patient. it feels so weird when the drums come in because they're playing straight on the accented beats, the 1-4-7-10.

it sounds harder than it is.

  • @xvvk i appreciate music being complicated and all, but wouldn't you say that's a bit overkill?

  • impossible to head-bop to for more than 5 seconds in a row. I like it.

  • Thats so weird I live in Temecula haha

  • This was awesome live. Everyone was buggin' out.

  • Hahaahhaha, I laugh so much when he says "what hits the spot yeah...like, Gatooooorade" so awesome.

  • I live 5 minutes from Temecula.... never got up early enough to see the sunrise :p

  • @r404chai Maybe you will after hearing this song.

  • Wow. It's weird and fucking crazy and beautiful.

  • like gaaaaaatorade

  • i won free tix to see these guys. lame.

  • people are allowed to hate on this the same way i know nickelback sucks. of course they're entitled to their opinions.

    they're fucking wrong though.

also i disagree with the lyrics being lame. i respect them for being so simplistic in a song this fucking nuts. beautiful.

  • @andrewjessepannell That actually fits into Zappa's lyrical formula: Complex music works better with simple lyrics, while simpler music is open to more complex lyrics.

  • @SonofMrPeanut Too bad they apparently hate zappa. He's not "musical" in their lead singers opinion. LOL.

  • @andrewjessepannell I agree nickelback sucks, and your right

  • @andrewjessepannell well then u would be ''wrong'' about nickelback sucking in alot of peoples minds, so stop judging.

  • @TheKickasskatie Dude there's no judging there. Nickelback sucks, it's called a fact.

  • @alfaripopo ok dude. stay in ur judgmental bubble, where no ones opinions matter but urs :)

  • @andrewjessepannell I feel as though it would be a crime not to assert that Nickelback is just objectively awful.

  • @andrewjessepannell man i love the lyrics in this song. "and what hits the spot yea like Gatorade!" love that line

  • People, time signature changes aren't that difficult to do, and they usually don't sound that good. Stop thinking you're a musical genius for "appreciating" them.

  • Jesus Christ, music's going to end up like that woman who let her kid fingerpaint a $50,000 masterpiece... just because its different doesnt mean its good. Come on indie kids, I have more faith in you than this.

  • @musicjuma you have more faith in indie kids? sorry you are a musical genius I apologize for enjoying a truly unique group.

  • @musicjuma You don't know much about music or art, do you?

  • Reminds me of Captain Beefheart for some reason...

  • So, I was listening to Beethoven's Violin Concerto today, and this song came into my mind at the beginning of the third movement. I don't mean they copied anything, I just some found sort of tonal similarity or something. I don't know.

    Anyways, awesome music.

  • you know the lead singer sounds like a cross between thom yorke and justin timberlake.

    just sayin

anyway, i cant stop listening to it.....

  • I just bought this album and I can not stop listening to this song. A great morning song for sure.

  • @dookielumps fuck the lyrics, there prett stupid. BUT he's singin and playing at the same time and the guitar part is pretty brilliant. he octive displaces the melody in the intro and changes time signatures every other fuckin bar. just give it a second try.

  • God the tempo changes make my heart skip a beat

  • Oh fuck this is incredible

  • this is sick. unbelieveably good music. I wish I could write like this. the most interesting, intelligent music i've heard for ages but still totally kick8rse.

  • good to see the grizzly bears and she & him in the related videos

  • So I kinda REALLY like this <3

  • My mind races when I listen to this band. Never know what to expect. The changes are perfect.

This is the type of music I want to make. Most wouldn't dare to listen.

    I will.

  • Entirely too dissonant and not in a good way. I was not expecting this after listening to Two Doves. I'll move on to the next song as my brain is currently being mercilessly jarred. Gray matter on the rocks, shaken not stirred.

  • @ashxc

dude...its not dissonant at all... everything is in the major key

  • reminds me of my boyfriend :)

  • this song gives me a headache for some reason. I like dirty projectors, but cant like this song :S

  • so awesome live at sasquatch! this year

  • The girl's mouth on the left is funny to me.

  • me aburren boriiiiiiing

  • me aburren boriiiiiiing

  • What hits the spot, yeah, like gatorade?

  • Missing Temecula right now...

  • Temecula is the Spanish bastardization of the Luiseño Indian words "Temet", which means "sun", and "Nga" which means "place of". The most popular translation among residents of Temecula is "Where sun shines through the mist". I wonder if they knew that when they wrote this, as there is a line about Indian Paintbrushes. There is also a line about Finches, and the band Finch is from Temecula (probably unrelated though).

  • @ariesoffate bastardisation or evolution of language made inevitable by a culturally shrinking earth?

  • wow, i never realized that people knew temecula existed, other than the people living in it xD

  • @rebebo95 I know hahaha I was thinking the same thing, im in Wildomar haha

  • love it

  • Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

  • @whorefacehasoverdose What the hell. I just discovered this band... and you're telling me they know of our dinky little town?

  • Katy Perry is from Temecula

  • Godawful ham-fisted lyrics.

  • is this the dude from vampire weekend?

  • @MrTerribIe

    nope hes heaps better :D

  • drums @ 2:22 on are GREAT

  • 3:20 solo is pure eargasm, especially the 3:32 high pitched note...goes straight into the deep of my brainz.

Big up to David and the DP

  • reread this phrase - "it still reeks of pretentious overtly 'abstract' textures and construction"

    who's pretentious?

  • I can see both sides of this coin.

  • @pogosticksteve hahahahaha xD

  • @pogosticksteve probably the person who used the word "overtly".

  • @pogosticksteve Lol well said

  • @pogosticksteve both that person and the song are.

  • flippin amazing. I personally don't find it pretentious or inauthentic at all.

  • This is the best thing I could discover from them and it still reeks of pretentious overtly "abstract" textures and construction, I love great experimental music but I can't shake the vibe of this being inauthentic, even after a few listens. It has potential to grow on me but I don't see how at this current point

  • are you serious? what are you talking about? Are you saying the music or lyrics are pretentious? Lyrics can be, but how can music be? Explain this to me. And inauthentic??? The guitar playing is amazing!

  • this one guy, wrote a piece for piano where there were a few simple notes, then the player is instructed to open and close the lid of the piano at specific intervals.

that is pretentious, without any words.

  • @medicinmanden

ummm consider the fact that the piano sounds different when the lid is open and closed.. its no different from changing guitar effects.

  • Well I totally disagree with you. Good day to you.

  • @ryan62791

rofl you must listen to very boring music if this is pretentious. the guitar is deliberately highly derivative, and the vocals are classic pop-chorus harmony - they've taken a particular style and built around it. there's nothing weird about the timing or the vocal melodies or anything.. its just pop music that conforms to the intro verse chorus verse chorus bridge chorus chorus formula and has some interesting melodies. not everything that's creative is pretentious.

  • Who cares?

It sounds nice. Nothing else really matters.

  • @mightymellow01 i wanna start by saying im in love with this band, and i agree with parts of what ur saying. but the harmonies are very unusual, and the timing is straight crazy. thats a lot of the reason i love it tho. the time signatures are plentiful and varying!
