I always thought that the first game of Umineko was a bit boring compared to everything else. The epic mind games and touching parts of Umineko start after this game, really, so you won't get to them in this.
Umineko has a great soundtrack, so that's probably the main reason why it's in this format. I have actually both shed tears and felt incredibly scared mainly because of the combination of the OST and the powerful writing.
This is much better than Kanon, so you'll suffer a lot less.
@xYukii He doesn't seem too disgusted by it so far, but that may change when he realizes just how slow the first episode is to actually get things going.
Hey UD, I think you accidentally muted the bgm halfway through the recording. I think it was the 'm' key to switch it back on but I can't quite remember.
This is a visual novel and no matter how much they deny it, just look at it. It's a Visual Novel. There is art, backgrounds, characters. Nothing to make it any different from the visual novels which they claim it's not. They also had music, does that make Kanon an "audio novel" too?
@Pyrothon The complete classification for works is still shaky. Actually, it always has been and will continue to be changed for a long long time, especially in our digital age.
I think the best point is not about whether it's a "visual novel", a "sound novel" or whatever you call it. The question is best phrased "Does it use its elements well?"
Maybe you should stop doing these bets. Or manipulate them so that you can read the ones considered to be the best. Like anything Nasu. Even though you said you don't want to read that one a while back.
The thing is, i don't consider them the best. I don't know what VN's I would consider to be the best. I'm not all that fond of VN's in the first place (as in, I don't ever really read them). I don't hate them with nearly as much passion as you do, but give me the chance of an absolutely great VN or a decent Light Novel, and I'll probably just go with the decent Light Novel. I'm just not thaqt fond of the medium. I just also accept it more than you do.
Good lord, how I hate Umineko. Normally I rather like visual novels, but Umineko is an incomprehensible mess that revels in the fact that it makes no fucking sense. After chapter 4 I gave up on there ever being a satisfying explanation.
Initial reaction: GAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA...wait should I be sad that you have to go through this or happy you're uploading videos?
I wonder if it would be more enjoyable if you were merely reading (at reading speed), as opposed to reading it out loud. I don't think I could tolerate my favorite story at such a slow rate of intake, though that's just me.
A tiny fact I'd like to point out. Umineko isn't quite a visual novel. The focus isn't the visuals at all (which explains the fact that the text is often over the images)
Rather, the focus is on the audio in this case, trying to evoke an atmosphere. I feel that works better than visual novels since you get pretty much a full novel as far as the writing goes, but with music and sounds to help convey the intended atmosphere.
I think UD came after the OP song. that's all.

There are paperbacks written by R07 in Japanese. It's what he considers to be the "definitive version" of the story.

Hey UD, remember that time I was in one of those bets and I won? Haha, yeah you should try that some time.

R07 himself doesn't even consider his works to be visual novels. He prefers the term "sound novel".

@MeowMixerGuy I prefer the term "story" over "fanfiction" for what I write but in the end it's still fanfiction.

Oh wow...not again...
And this time it doesn't even have a good anime adaptation to tide me through...

There are plenty of legitimately good works of art done in MS Paint. This is not one of them.

To answer your question. Why have art? Great facial expressions.
