I worked for this Director for a short time, just after this was shot. His name is Marty Schultz (aka Mathew Brady). Very talented man. A great eye for what was needed to please the client.
My father, Victor Kalin, is the actor and the artist in this commercial.
In 1981, based on his many LP album cover portraits of jazz musicians, Vic was commissioned to paint the featured portrait. When he delivered the portrait to the ad agency execs, they said, "Gee, you look like a real artist!" With that, they fired the actor hired to portray an artist and he stepped in.
It's true. I was the one taken by how he looked. He brought his art work into the agency for us to see. As always we were running late and he decided to wait for us anyway. I'm glad he did. He was perfect.
Of course I have a favorite part - the artist is portrayed by my old friend Vic Kalin, who passed away in the mid-nineties. He also really painted the painting used in this commercial.

Pachelbel's Le Canon. It was Phil Dusenberry's idea to use it in this commercial.
