  • I like your videos very much but it would be good to know how you make the tones with water & ink. If people could see this it would be a teaching aid too. Seeing you paint with brush is one aspect but the putting the 'two tone' on the brush is another skill. Combining the two on video would be a boon for people wanting learn this art.

  • do u know this is a popular ink for tattoo's? it maintains a good quality black as u see some tattoo's have a blue tint over time, but not with sumie

  • hi, gino,

sumi ink is made from mainly either the palm tree or rapeseed.

the palm tree sumi-ink is called blue sumi. I don't know much about tatoo but assume that it should diffrent.

  • i notice most sumi e paintings are one color only.can you use watercolor to this?

  • great job!!

  • Kazushimura-san,

may i know what kind of paper material do u usually use for ur sumi-e?

And, can u suggest some paper types which are suitable for sumi-e that can be easily found in stationary shops?

    Thx

  • hi, Kagowoo,

If you have rice paper, I guess the thick paper like sketch book one is good for sumi-ink. use rough surface paper so that ink will penetrate

  • Haha! Before I read your description, I was gonna ask, "Is it snowing over there?" I'm on the East coast of the US and we had a little snow but it melted when the rain came.

  • It's beautiful - I was wondering if it were possible to see what you do with your brush when not painting - how you load the ink, shape your brush, use the water, etc.
