  • "No merrier people lived than the coloreds of the pre war south?" I'm so glad that I wasn't drinking anything because I would have choked up and spat it out all over my computer.......wowzers!

  • @Ohsonatural2010 How is it then, that scant few emancipated slaves desired to return to Africa? OR, that many a brave (black) hero fought, in the Civil War...as a Confederate?

  • @zuzulo56 Perhaps they desired to return to Africa because they found the hatred and injustice they experienced here to be intolerable or maybe they dreamed building up their homeland. Indeed there were blacks who fought under the Confederate flag, (though one must beg the question how many actually had a choice in the matter). But how many more willingly and bravely fought for the Union? In any case I think the USA is a better place with all her people free, don't you?

  • @Ohsonatural2010 You quite adroitly MISS the point of my query...that is, almost entirely, the black folk disdained the thought of a return to "The Dark Continent." In fact they rebelled at the very thought...which originated by certain white-racist politicians (it WAS a plank of the Democratic Party) of that era. Hell, even now, you'll be hard-pressed to locate many folk, of African heritage, willing to visit...there!

  • @Ohsonatural2010 As what I premised is rhetorical...it becomes incumbent upon your fine self to decipher same. I have faith in your innate ability to do so.

  • @Ohsonatural2010 I am so bloody glad to have conversation, of sorts, with one who himself, was a slave...and can therefore act as spokesman, for those unfortunates of another era. Listen, youngster, If you have bitter thoughts for narrative content, of a Hollywood Documentary, go bitch to them. I don't suffer fools well... don't have to, you see!

Now, at ease... you're free to leave...please do.

  • @zuzulo56 You failed to address my query at all. I would ask why you believe that black people of that day rejected the idea of returning back to Africa, but then your reasoning doesn't matter. Bottom line black folks were liberated; some stayed, some went; some migrated north, east and west, while others remained south. This period of American history was anything but the great utopia this clip attempts to suggest. Particularly if seen from the view point of those who were enslaved.

  • If the North was so put-out over life and conditions "below" they should 'ave not purchased the cotton...bur continued to enjoy their burlap & denim. Even during "The Conflict" huge (and constant) shipments of the "white gold" northward was common...and, if the truth be told, increased!

  • What a fantastic recreation of the antebellum South in all of its beauty and grace. The traditions of the Old South are delightful to watch. Cotton was king, bringing an aristocracy that so few will ever know. From the ladies' wide skirts to tucked ruffled collars of the gents, the elite society of Natchez lived privileged and pampered lives that I certainly admire.

  • @plantationmuscleboy please do not get me wrong I find the aesthetic great too, but do not forget that the privileged live was paid for by slaves! I just read about a slave couple who lost their baby boy through neglect because the pampered lady of the house let them work inhumanely long hours so they did not have time to look after the toddler. Also the southern beauty, the lady of the manor tended to just kick and slap the couple without a reason just to show them that they are worth nothing!

  • @plantationmuscleboy if you enjoy history please keep the facts- and do not dream a world into the past which never existed! There were no 'happy' slaves. Every human who has been deprived of their freedom is not treated humanely and therefore will suffer all the time!

  • @rajmundr You're most correct, It WOULD seem proper & appropriate not to "over-dream"... EVEN in matters of "Zit-popping" & "Gay-Endeavors."
