@NathanSynth Yes, indeed. For the purposes of this video, I had chosen to regulate the volume in the mixer only. So, in the step sequencer, all the volume knobs are turned to 100%.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I was completely lost in a horrible land of muddy sound. I practically cried when I heard how crisp the sound of this new, mastered, MP3 was.
im confused u said turn evrything up to a maximum of -20 db i did that and evrythings way to low when i put the multiband on and started tweakin the knobs it did not bring it out like yours??
@dnice4732 you could select the preset "general purpose" in the multiband compressor ( /watch?v=qtOIf7Y5ecg#t=60s ) and use the "gain-knobs" to maximize the volume of individual bands.
@yasirali I just wanted to focus on the effects used on the master channel. Usually, I use quite a few effects on individual channels and use panning as well.
this was by no means a mastering process and it wasn´t even a mix. you got no clue of stereo positioning, using reverb to place ur instruments, analog modelling, positioning the tracks in the frequency spectrum at all it seems.
you should seriously not be doing "tutorials" like this.
a tip for all the newbies out there: unless you need a premaster to play it out in a club NEVER master ur own tracks. i use t-racks for my mastering but i don´t master my own tracks.
@PoxIndustries Please, enlighten me with all your magic and tell me how I could possibly improve upon my lousy mastering techniques so I shall no longer wander in this dark passage of ignorance...
@GroffiProductions hey this is good mastering i think but some sounds isnt great mastered! you should think of what sounds is most important to be heard then do those higher, you should also think of how loud the sounds generally is. and then balance the sound fx if you want to hear alot of bass, turn the bass up, if the strings aint that important turn them down! and then experiment with it! and to make it the great quality go check out this video tutorial its easy and helps watch?v=YUI0OQmx698
@topmusicproduKtion The Mercury bundle is a supreme plug-in collection with more than 100 plug-ins that can be used for mastering your music (price is ~3000$). I would be amazed if T-Racks (~350$) could beat the Waves Mercury bundle...
@MrScroob There are a few videos available on the websites of IKMultimedia and Izotope. Unfortunately, there is not as much documented on Youtube so far. However, this video series by Dubspot is quite interesting for Ozone 4: /watch?v=9Z2mMJT4Iqo
@MrScroob I can recommend Izotope's Ozone 4 and T-Racks 3. After these plug-ins, you can opt for the bundles by Waves. In my opinion, Ozone 4 does the mastering job quite well. T-Racks has even more possibilities, but is more expensive as well. Waves' plug-ins are highly sophisticated but very expensive. You can try Ozone 4 and T-Racks for free. I put the links to the demo downloads in the description. Cheers ;-)
@JKAYnl I don't think that it is unnecessary to use effects on your individual channels. But it depends on the samples/sounds you're using. In the video, I didn't use much effects to focus more and the mastering technique. Izotope 4 is a great plugin, but I wanted to only use software included in FL Studio for demonstration purposes. If you possess Izotope or any other hq mastering plugin, this video should not keep you from using it!
@GroffiProductions oke thanks, but 1 more question witch i needed to ask because its an importend one i forgot to ask, is it CD quality ready, to master like this? and do you use it on al of you tracks?
thanks for the vid! hope you can answer my questions so i can use your tutorial! :)
( i al ready know how te export it and stuff like that with the tutorial of "quik mastering from warbeats")
@JKAYnl The method presented here is a low budget way of mastering that has pretty good results - definitely good enough for demo tapes. Record companies will have your tracks remastered anyway. Your term "CD quality" can refer to "well-mastered" (low / high budget) or "high bit rate" (.mp3 / .wav). I can say that this method provides me with the possibility to create tracks that have good quality, similar volume levels, and are not necessarily recognized as low budget productions by everyone.
i can tell that there is a difference, but why is it better to mess around with volumes on the mixer instead of the volume control next to the sample/instrument?
@iluvrandomnames Two volume sliders for one sample/instrument give you extra control of it. I tend to directly assign everything to different channels in the mixer because the mixer window gives direct visual feedback on what happens to the volume of an individual channel/sample/instrument. You could also do the mixing with the volume controls in the step sequencer window and afterwards assign them to different channels in the mixer, add effects, correct volume, and master the track. No problem.
@RealRapMusic187 Click on a sound/plugin in your step sequencer -> channel settings (that is as small window that pops up) click on the small arrow in the left upper corner -> assign free mixer track (Ctrl+L)
@Bootstrap193 There are not extra effects on the channels because this is an early version of the project. But you can use loads of effects on each channel, change your individual sounds, and still use this technique. It is important that you have similar output levels (-20db) on each individual channel as you can see in the video. If you went to -10db on a certain channel, the Multiband Compressor in the end would make your sound fuzzy because it then boosts the frequencies too much.
Wow, thanks for this tutorial! I had always problems with final mixing, and now i find this simple but so effective way to do that! Very big thanks for this video! Greetings from Germany.. ;o)
Thankyou so much dude this tutorial was fucking incredible, when you turned on the multiband compressor at the end, it was like changing from looking at a pixelated picture of a brown waterfall, to looking at a beautiful crystal clear waterfall. Cheers ;D
man u do some nice tutorials, but u not that good in producin,Too much stuff together man.Look at Dr.Dre ,he got it simple, only a few melodies at the same time.too much stuff.u got potential but u want 2 mix like thousand of things together..
@RaineR3313 i mean, he's just using examples of rhythms and stuff to show what the effects do. Considering this was a tutorial, the beat really wasnt important. just showing how to master whatever it is your music sounds like. Feel me?
Hey so im new to fruity loops so excuse my noobness, but I had a question.
So do you basically put every instrument in a seperate channel? And put the compressor on the main channel and everything will go through? or do you have to link channels or something? Because what i have been doing is just putting something to a channel only if i was gonna put FX on it..
@AftershocKGV I usually put every instrument/sound on a different channel to get as much control about them as possible. From the diffrenet channel the sound can be send to the master channel (standard) - where the compressor comes into play - or to other channels (to create submixes with sidechaining for instance).
@GroffiProductions awesome man thanks. One problem I ran into was I do a lot of sidechains, and when I follow the instructions in your video and I turn the mixer all the way off and then try and put it to -20 db the sidechain always kicks in and blasts it up. Is there a way around this? such as setting the invert to .2 or anything? ahh this is confusing lol. Thanks for your help tho i appreciate it
@AftershocKGV There is a video on how to sidechain using the FL Limiter by the FL Guru. I put the link in the description. If you use that method for your sidechain, you shouldn't get much problems.

OUTSTANDING!!! Great music by the way!!! tips hat to you and says peace and blessing!!! gone... oh and thanx!!!
@REDKLIFF1 That's great feedback!! I thought it could be confusing to have me talking during the whole mixing/mastering process...Thx for the comment!!
@kissmarton Thx! About vocals: Well recorded vocals can be mixed in quite easily using this technique. In case, you want to have your vocals stand out from rest of the track even more, try to use a second EQ2 on the Master channel. So, you get EQ2 (cutting out unnecessary freq.), EQ2 (enhancing the vocals - look at the presets: "vocal presence") and in third place the Multiband Compressor. The quality of the vocal track is very important. Edison offers a lot of functions to improve vocals.
