  • The Voyager XL kinda reminds me of the G10 Espada in terms of shape, looks so siick.

  • just as a tip for those who don't know using reverse grip is kind of a last resort tactic it reduces range of a thrust attack and on any form of slash. Now if you drop the blade and that's how you pick it up use it that way but don't use reverse grip just to look cool.

  • Damn it Nutnfancy, you got me saving up for another knife. :P

  • but if you can not carry a gun what knife shoud you carry

  • @jaap928 That would depend on your local laws, if they dont allow CCW of a gun oftentimes they wont allow carry of big knives either.

  • @Kylef7735 oke thanks

  • here you go again making me want to spend all my money on knives

  • In my humble opinion the vaquero with this weird blade shape can be said it is kinda cool. Hard to sharpen though from my own experience

  • Does Nutnfancy prefer this knife or the Ontario RAT 1?

  • @pulleyking Whats your use?

  • @Kylef7735 Just EDC and general work around a farm or when hiking and camping etc. Small jobs that require more control than my Kabar.

  • @pulleyking The Medium and large voyagers sound like they would make perfect knives for your use, make sure you have a good sharpener cause the steel is a little soft and the use i put my knives through on the farm dulls any knife quick.

  • @Kylef7735 Awesome, thanks.

  • Is the XL legal?

  • @joebob4501 Depends where you are.

  • @joebob4501 Only legal to conceal carry in Texas

  • 13:58 "Gives me wood" lol I agree Nutn

  • these knives give me wood

  • Awesome blade reviews! highly addictive thanks!

  • VOYAGER what a silly name for a cool knife

  • I don't know how long I've had my Voyager but it's a made in Japan serration model with Zytel handle/clip, triangle patterned checkering, and tanto tip. It used rivets only with no screws and I've put it through hell and back yet it still has a decently sharp edge and very little side to side wiggle. I would love to see them come out with a model that used a cross lock design instead of a lock back but keep the weight low and only slightly increase the width but still happy with it, my edc.

  • I knew it would be too big and heavy for routine EDC, so I decided to get the PE tanto for self defense carry. Wow, is it ever strong and durable! It is built more like a craftsman wrench than a knife.

I ordered the med PE clipoint also. It is going to make a great every day user! Thanks.

  • All i carry is a sog trident, and a small swiss army knife on my keychain.

  • is the medium a good edc knife

  • you want a steel that stays sharp for ages, try m390, s90v, 20cp, 204p, k390, k294, 20cv etc :p heheh

  • These are great knives. I like your check off list. It is a good visual aide.

  • Thanks so much for the reviews! You have helped me add 8 knives to my list that I'm waiting to buy! Just got a Cold Steel Espada Large g-10 and I love it! I cant go anywhere without it now!

  • One of the best, most entertaining reviews you have done. Well done sir!! KNIFE SHARPENERS!!! WE NEED A KNIFE SHARPENER REVIEW!! I need to put a razor edge on my worn RAT 5 and need your advice sir!!

  • @cassiusclaynyc spyderco sharpmaker

  • @CrotalusKid1 Thats good to hear! I ordered one a few days ago, it arrives today!Looking forward to sharpening every knife I own with it. You have one and like it?

  • @cassiusclaynyc no, i use traditional japanese water stones, they are much more expensive and time consuming, but i like the process that goes along with it, and i feel that i can get a better edge on a wider variate of tools, and being i have a small sharpening business they fit me better, but i recommend a sharpmaker to my customers for daily edge maintenance

  • @cassiusclaynyc Get the sharpmaker, and MAKE SURE to get the ultra fine rods as well...they make a world of difference.

  • Dam nutn adden another one to the collection your maken me smarter on my purchases i bought the XL 49$ back then i would buy a shitty game for 60$ and never play it.

  • Plus some of these Voyagers have plastic pocket clips vs. the metal pocket clips on yours. The Voyagers with the plastic pocket clips don't have any steel liners in them just plastic. So are the ones without any kind of liner with the plastic pocket clips made in Japan the older versions or newer versions?

  • The Voyager you have says "Made in Taiwan" Some of these Voyagers say "Made in Japan" which ones are better made and are the newer Voyagers made in Taiwan or is the Made in Japan the older Voyagers?

  • the large Cold Steel Voyager with a serrated blade is deadly sharp with a big large blade that is wide.

That Cold Steel Gunsite Tanto knife is very strong tough knife in words to describe it

  • Those Cold Steel Voyager knives are large in size but clip inside pocket fine.

  • I have the medium clip point. My first cold steel knife. Anyone else notice when pressing the lockback to close the blade it feels cheap and creaky? Otherwise a very solid knife.

  • Bought it. Love it. Medium clip point. My new EDC blade. Extreme value. Perfectly centered. Razor sharp out of box. Tears up my pocket though. I will sand under the clip. Thanks for the review. You probably saved me a $100 bucks on a buying a more expensive, less capable knife. Keep on reviewing.... Thanks.

  • i have to admit, the medium voyager has a perfect index finger balance (of all my 60-70 knives)

  • I thought your mom got you that knife!

  • I can't for next month Cold Steel is gonna announce their 2012 lineup of new knives,I heard theres gonna be 9 brand new folder designs.

  • @nutnfancy great review as always nutn. But i think satin finish is better for preventing rush cus at stonewash u create micro holes on blade surface.Maybe im wrong.

  • What pistol is at 1:00

  • @MelloJello911 Smith&Wesson M&P. not shure if its a 9mm or a .40

  • Would these be high value enough to toss into some USKs utilizing the write off principle?

  • I recently bought the medium and the x- large. Love them both. This video was the deciding factor. Thanks Nutnfancy!

  • Value for the MONEY!?!?!? Dude...Tri-Ad LOCK!!! Give me a frickin' break....could be the best value for the money OUT THERE.

  • Comment removed

  • excellent video might have to give one of these ago .

    thanks nutn

  • This is the first video I've watched of yours. I liked it. In fact because of this video and one other I am waiting for the mailman right now. He has a med. Voyager for me. What a guy. lol I'm going to watch more of your videos as input for knife purchases. I had a med and lg. Voyager ordered before they were released but that release was cancelled. Then they came out and didn't use VG-1 so I didn't get any. I'll give the AUS-8A a chance at this price. I really want to try the Tri-ad lock.

    Jack

  • @jackknifeh

I got the med. Voyager and like it a lot. As you said, it feels very solid. I haven't done anything with it yet. It came VERY sharp. Normally I need to sharpen new knives. I have more Spyderco's than anything. The clip IS so tight it is unusable IMO. I'm going to have to do something about that. I may remove it and carry this in a small pouch. Don't know yet. Minor issue. Time will tell about edge retention. I know AUS-8 so I'm expecting something like that.

    Thanks

    Jack

  • been wanting on of these for a while now. I've been carrying the new AK-47 for over a year now. (love it!!!) im just not sure I'd want to start carrying a new blade. Im tempted to get another AK

  • Good Review I'd been debating the CS lawmans and might look at these as well now as new folder purchase.

  • you really tearin up that cardboard. reminded me of my dog when she gets a hold of a paper plate

  • Ok I have an idea but I didnt know who to tell it to so I thought I would tell you, so I thought of a knife that is made from bullet proof glass or, but it is a good and bad idea (for obvious reasons) I just wanted your opinion.

  • what do you think about the Vaquero blade shape? it looks cool and all but i dont know how it will preform

  • Plain awesome!!

  • bazooka? flamethrower? you funny noodle lol

  • I also finished up my JB Weld mod on my new voyager today and now it's perfect

  • I was really skeptical when I first saw the re-design myself, because I've been using an old style medium voyager in my EDC system for the past 2 years now and I didn't think I'd want the blade to be any different... I was TOTALLY wrong. I just got my medium voyager in the mail the other day... wow, LOVE this blade! I loved the old style, but now to have a more rugged/hard-use version of it is just awesome. My next purchase is gonna have to be the XL for sure.

  • I believe the "A" in AUS8-A stands for annealed. Just another treatment to the steel. As always, good review Nutn.

  • I used to like the voyager.... but then i took an arrow to the knee...

  • So...

    Cold steel Recon 1

    Vs.

    Cold steel Voyager (large)

    Vs.

    Spyderco Tenatious

  • @liisrandom Whats your use?

  • @Kylef7735 Well, I want to have it as a main self-defense blade since i'm going to be carrying a spyderco dragonfly2 for edc cutting tasks

  • @liisrandom The recon 1 or the voyager are equally able to be excellent tactical folders, the tenacious is a little small for tactical for my taste

  • Lighter, buck 119, buck 110, swiss army knife, folding knife (no brand), and a pen. Am I check? :P

  • Still the best knife reviewer on YouTube more please it's all about the blades I've heard every man and his dog talk about the sebenza I'd love to here your view on this knife keep up the good work from a welsh tnp fan

  • Love this video so much! i have watched 6 times before i click the add to cart button on amazon.i went to notJustKnives. com but in my indecisiveness they sold out.... coincidence i think not! after alot of thought i went with the combo edge.. i own more than 5 Cold steel knives and none of them have serrations so i thought i would give it a go! i only wish you had shown a voyager with the combo edge but no worries mine is in the post and inbound! 5 by 5

  • I want all three! Awesome tabletop vid!

  • Picked up an XL tanto today at the gunshow for $42.50. Not a bad knife for the price.

  • @Kylef7735 Amazon, like eBay, is just a conduit for sale. you can find plenty of quality blades on amazon. as for this video, love the XL. my friend has one, I've handled it, ergos are incredible. I'm waiting to buy an XL tanto version, mainly because I just purchased a karambit.... can't have too many blades coming in at once, what?

  • @Elvirth24 True, but good online knife shops are superior to amazon.

  • I've always been a fan of the Cold Steel knives. Great quality for a fair price, giving good quality knives to the masses.

  • Just got my medium today, love it! Came pretty well oiled from the factory, but it is damn sharp out of the box.

  • was nearly certain i wanted to get the tenacious.... but now im thinking splash out a bit more and get a medium voyager tanto. Just can't decide

  • @OBrien19 a medium voyager will be stronger ad lighter then the tenacious, but the tenacious is much slimmer and carries better in the pocket, and its not weak, just not as strong as a triad lock.

i think you won't be disappointed with either.

  • Another awesome vid thx

  • wtf, the medium just rose to $50 on amazon. no longer high value at all.

  • @baphomet58 Get off amazon for knives dude, they are generally crappy, Use Notjustknives cutleryshoppe and knifeworks!

  • +1 sold.

  • I've still got my old vaquero grande. I was a bit apprehensive about the new handle shape but I think Ill pick one up. Thanks nutn.

  • Awesome! Sold! I had a few of the older models (favorite & still using / Lg Clip), but I've been back & forth between getting the Recon1 or New Lg Clip. If not eventually both, definitely will get the upgrade. Thanks for reviewing these and keep up the great job!!!

  • I've always loved Cold Steel knives, but i've always gone with the Recon over the voyager serise, but the new grip / texture may be worth a look. As always, an awesome review

  • Hey nutn, I had a question for ya. The new voyager large size looks like a great self defense knife, how would you say it stacks against the recon 1? I love my recon but I am looking for a more affordable version to take into the woods and thump on. Also, it looks like the handle is a bit thicker than the recon in terms of width, any data points would be greatly appreciated!

  • @ghostie234 jordantheok has a review watch?v=ho2aGhH4980 where he compares it to the recon-1.

turns out the blade is identical in size and shave except the flat grind and finish.

the handle is indeed a bit thicker.

  • @Whisper6911 Thanks man, that was a great data point for my carry method, the recon has an ideal combat knife thickness, so I'll need to consider the slab thickness of the large voyager

  • removing the thumb stud is easy, no prob. Hey the Hold Out II is a Killer knife, trust me!

  • Would you say that the XL voyager would be a cheaper solution to the Recon 1 folder?

  • I have the old XL Tanto with plastic clip and X2 Voyager with VG1 steel.

Love the new style handles with the Tri-Ad locks.

    thanks for the good review.

  • 48$?

    It's 80+ € here!

Goddamnit, is that import cost or am I being ripped off?

  • @Skullchaser08 All knives are expensive as crap in basically everywhere except the US

  • @Kylef7735 discover ebay.

i got my large model for 41 euros incl. postage.

allot better then the 90 id pay in a local shop, if i could even find it in one.

  • @Whisper6911 Thats great dude, glad you could find a good deal!

  • Love Cold Steel, i have a 3" Recon1 that goes Everywhere with me. I actually had to clean out the pocket lint from it the other day cause it just stays in whatever pair o' jeans im wearing

  • @nutnfancy You talk a lot about tactical gear and EDC hear. A lot of people EDC pocket knives (I love to EDC the Kerswar Leek). But, what do you think about tactical pens, such as the Smith and Wesson Tactical Pen? Do you think they're actually usefull as a pen as well as a personal defense option or just a marketing thing to make a quick buck?

  • they actully look better here then on the web site, still kinda miss the older blade style.

  • Well maybe not professionally because ive only taken the class for two years ;/

  • I want to ad a fifth knife to my edc and this might be it!! Since im a professionally trained 13 year old knife fighter, i know what im doin with using a blade for self defense. I have a trainer for teaching me. I carry the spyderco military, police, endura 4 ffg blue, and the street beat. Just wanna try coldsteel out

  • Think I'll buy the medium and try it out as an edc gotta remember COLD STEEL VOYAGER!

  • I took delivery of the XL Clip-Point a few weeks ago, as a pocket backup to my BK-2 ...

Could - not - be - happier ! At twice the cost of my (rather lame) Pocket Bushman, the Voyager XL is, easily, FOUR TIMES the knife. And for times safer to operate and four times faster ... much bigger, much stronger ... WAY better grips ... Really no comparison. SO glad to FINALLY have a great pocket survival blade, for my EDC !

  • Can you point me to a video or tell me about what holster you use around your upper body?

  • @xboxblows Im guessing its one of the galco shoulder holsers, idk the model for sure though.

  • Cold steel, great stuff

  • 19 people are still mad about his Cold Steel Pocket Bushman videos :P

  • @Egei lol funny, thats one of my favorites :P

that one and the tom brown tracker knife video are my top 2 favs :P

  • @Whisper6911 I really dig the CS Pocket Bushman vids too, I just love how there is always 19-20 people who dislike every nutn video just out of pure spite. It's always the same people. They're just jealous of TNP as a whole and how successful that it has become

  • @Egei lol penis envy; the great universal constant of the internetz :P

i bet each and every one of them have a tom brown tracker knife placed prominently in the house, prolly with a signed head shot of that actor guy :P

  • What a great review. And no complaints at all about the length! I love the knife reviews and can't get enough, especially on a blade I am interested in.

    Keep'em coming.

  • I was hoping to see you show us a good full grip of the medium Voyager, I am interested in it but am not sure if the handle would be too small. I wanted to see how well it fits your hand and what kind of purchase your pinky gets. Great videos thanks.

  • I love the Cold Steel (CS) blades! Sems these are a great value and they will be added to my collection in the near term. Pocket clip over traction seems to be a running theme with the CS lines. A deeper carry would also be nice.... Overall a great value! Thanks Nutn!

  • mmmm got me a full serving of Nutnfancy

  • Ask and yr shall receive! Posted about a week ago that I hoped you would get a chance to review the new voyagers and lo and behold here it is! Great review, I have the xl clip point and the lg tanto, LOVE BOTH OF THEM! STAY CLASSY NUTN

  • i cry when i see your EDC, in Australia ill be put in the lockup for carrying a butter knife

  • I fondled a LG Voyager the other day at a local store and held it next to the Recon 1 Clip point, and like you said they are incredibly similar. More of a 2nd cool factor with the Recon, but for the price point you can get the voyager for almost 1/2 the price, something to consider

  • There's a lot I like about nutnfancy, but don't appreciate him taking credit for the term "Sheepdog" in the beginning of the video. He did not come up with the term or the concept behind the term. He just simply explained in detail what it meant to him

  • @footbalr074 Nutnfancy doesn't take credit for the term "Sheepdog" at all, in fact at the very beginning of his video "the Sheepdog Concept" he gives full credit to Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, who uses the term in one of his books. Nutn's video simply elaborates on the concept and how he sees it applied in our world today, giving fantastic historical examples. I can't speak for him but I think he continues to use the term because it is one of the underlying themes in TNP, to be prepared sheepdogs

  • @Ski4Life23 I understand He gives credit to Col. Grossman in the Sheepdog video, but in this video he claims it as his own, I already admitted he elaborated on it, I'm not disputing that, I'm just simply stating that this video, gives that little bit of misinformation to someone who has not watched the Sheepdog concept video or have read or heard of Col. Grossman. I'm not accusing him of trying to take credit for the term, I'm just saying he stated it was "his" term in the beginning of the video

  • Just went to that website, first product in the best sellers is XL Voyager, Good job Nutn :)

  • Another killer Knife review Nut-N

  • HAHAHAHA!!! :) it just gives me WOOD!

  • dude im watching this for the 5th time love those blades cant wait to get my XL one

  • lol 15:40

  • T-Shirt quote: "It gives me wood...IT IS AWESOME!" Can I order a Large in OD Green?

    Thanks Nutn!

  • Grrrr.... more items to put on my list to buy for 2012. LMAO!

    Thanks Nutn!

  • i never leave the house without my LAW and my GP240!!

  • This made it on the CS facebook. very cool. I guess the guys at cold steel like your videos. Whats not to like!

  • Come on Nutnfany!! U actually said "Booie" instead Of BOWIE!! Dammit! lol

  • Well any knife, that's Cold Steel, and is minimum of 3 inches is all the length u need. U only need 3 inches to reach someone's heart. Only if the situation needs it.... ONLY

  • Cold steel is on my list. Great review.

  • I really love cold steel but honestly the one drawback for me is that most of there knifes are way overpriced i know that there top quality but the price atleast for me is a lil outta my price range which is why i turned to spyderco for my EDC blade , i love my tenacious btw and ty nutn it was on your review that i bought it, so sorry CS u need to come up with some more competitive priced knifes atleast in your folders

  • Five ounces for the large? Way too heavy you can keep them, they ruined the Voyager.

  • @07921dennis 4.7

  • Great review.. as always.

Nice looking blades as well.. =D

You should have mentioned gift idea as well.. for $48 for that large one,,, awesome!

  • "love that large espada... it gives me wood"

    lolol

one of the best nutnfancy quotes

  • is it just me? or are almost all of the Cold Steel haters Spyderco fanboys??

  • badass first 2 seconds hahaha

  • That was seriously the best review I've ever seen! Well done sir. Thanx for the info and entertainment.

  • Hey nutn what do you think about the fully serrated models? :)

  • What does Nutn' think of tactical pens, particularily the benchmade ones?

  • @MamboPython closest product reviewed by him would be the cold steel spike series.

  • Awesome review and Awesome knives!

  • I hope Cold Steel brings back the diamond shape tanto in 2012

  • I did a lot of stabbing tests......... into cardboard

  • WTF?? i'm watching this for the 8th time and i already own the large clip :S

what the hell is wrong with me? :P

  • @nutnfancy what knife would you recommend for an EDC between $30 and $60 dollars?

  • Never get tired of your old school knife table tops Nutn, Keep it up dudes!

  • gotta love the FFG, but miss the VG-1

  • Extreme drool factorm on the new Voyager by Cold Steel.

    From Norway, take care!

  • hey nutnfancy what do you think of the SA80 A2? have you ever used one? heard much about them?

  • Great Video! I have two cold steel voyagers - a medium half serrated tanto point(pocket clip snagged on something and bent the crap out of it) and a large clip point fully serrated that I gave to my little brother. Also had an older medium clip point with the plastic belt clip that got loss while doing yardwork. I like the medium size and will save up to get it. Keep up the great work!

  • DROOOOOOOOOL

  • Never leave home without my SA80A2

  • Great vid, but what do you think about the Vaquero?

    plz reply.

  • Like always a very thorough review.

  • If only CS would learn to remove the handle texturing under the clip, to save your pants pockets from tearing, then this would be a classic blade. It's still got a lot of appeal, but the idea that I have to pay for the knife, and then do sanding/Dremeling to make it carry appropriately, is kinda bush league on Cold Steel's part.

Put it this way ... you ain't gonna have to do that with a Spyderco.

  • @classof77 Exactly. I don't even BUY Cold Steel folders anymore because of those under pocket clip issues. And I would not COUNT on saving my life in a tactical situation with a Cold Steel folder.

Why? The under pocket clip issues, as mentioned, and the stiffness and rigidity of the Tri-Ad Lock. It may be the strongest lock around, but it is a BEAR to open because it is so strong.

Tactical situation- Spyderco Resilience, Spyderco Endura, Spyderco Para-military w/zip-tie mod = End of question.

  • @matthias66 i have 3 triad locking knives, including the spartan and they all deploy like butter dripping of a hot biscuit. (thats really smooth)

you just need to work on your technique.

  • @classof77 Try holding 800 pounds on a spyderco lock. Won't happen:)

  • @Chrisgarelli2 Sorry, I eat better and exercise more regularly than that.

  • nutn, you need to get some fresh crepes, get rid of the old school white trainers!

  • I just got an email from coldsteel the Med. Tanto voyager is on sale for $38.99

  • That gives me wood.... ya know, when I chop trees down with it

  • Actually, look at bladesports knives. It's a standard that they chop through 2x4's and rope, cardboard tubes, golf balls, tennis balls, and afterwards the knives still shave. So it's not unfounded that some knives do hold an edge after hacking through wood. It's actually a standard to become an American Blade Smith: Master Smith. The knife has to bend 90 degrees without cracking or chipping, has to hack through a 2x4 and rope and still shave hair...
