Hi, I must say, you are the BEST pastel artist I have ever seen! Do you ever paint this on anything else, such as Matt Board, or Foam Board? This is new to me, so I was wondering if it could be applied to something lighter in weight.
@carltontattoo actually you can purchase powdered pumice stone at a good hardware/ paint store. I like using powdered pumice stone better than marble dust.

I found a carton of "pumice" at a hardware store....it's gray and has the texture of flour, though when you run it between your fingers, it has a sort of gritty feel. I have tried mixing it with gesso and rolling it onto foamcor board, but it never seems quite right....do I need a grittier pumice? I like the texture of that colorfix "sanded" paper (think that is what it is called, comes in all different colors)
Ok my man. Great. Why don't you measure 11 to 13 spoons-full of dust into a graduated measuring beaker. Then you will know how much dust to gather in one go. You could shake it in gradually of course. It might save you a lot of messing about. I like the design of money too. Trouble is I spend it before I can study it! Best wishes
Thanks for the comments. That measuring beaker does sound great. I will definitely take your sound advise and pick one up. It would make life easier for sure. I know what you mean about money, mine is usually spent before I could get some out of the ATM to even hold some in my hand:) Take Care.

@dragoneca2 Thank you very much, you are very kind. You could paint on matt board but 2ply hot pressed illustration board is the best alternative.

Tee hee, this is a very useful video and also made me chuckle a little, especially when you're counting down the blender. :)

Make sure you have a thick gesso, thick as mayonaiise. That should help alot. Also try a different ground pumice. Let me know how it goes?

Wow, gotta see the video of that painting finished, astounding! Do you use fixative?
iamgoddard 2 years ago
Hi Thanks for the comment. I never use fixative because it dulls the colors.

I have worked on smooth wood panels made of birchwood that I have bought from Home Depot. Would this process work on these boards?
Swa6543 3 years ago
Good question, all wood is different so I would do a test or two to make sure it can stand up to the several coats of gesso.
