Is that a smoke trail at 1:58?If you put a smoke bomb in the holes so it ignites when firing ,would leave a nice smoke trail,and finding the ball would be easier too.

how much black powder did you need to launch a ball?

ive made a smaller golf ball mortar (mainly for 1" shells, but golfballs fit). about 20-30g is needed for that

10% by weight is a good bet, when dealing with smaller stuff. For larger like this, I think the formula is 1oz for the first lb, and 1/2oz for every lb after that.

Haha thats Canada for you. In America you only need a license to sell black powder not buy it. As a re-enactor I can go to any gun shop and buy black powder with no problem. The only limits set by state and federal laws is how much your allowed to transport and store in a given place.
