please dont put the thin plastic foil on the aluminium (top) case!! There is a tiny hole in the hd and is opened for air. If you put the foil on top of it than the hd will die because of heat due to no airflow thus increasing too much pressure!!

No, it doesn't needs an external power supply.

In this pack, the usb cable is very handy ; there are actually 3 USB plugs in the same cable (the mini usb at the end, and 2 standard usb plugs for the pc).
