just fun fact about time period: Estonians resisted longest against teutonic knights (of those, who teutonic order conquered). i saw, that only ur cav was badass, other units were actually used (historically) as a pre-attack force to confuse and weaken the opponent, while main army goes around flanks or sits back and waits (yes, like peasants)

Nice game, I liked the history snippets in it. I agree with you about the pikes, they really aren't that useful in this game. I keep a couple units of pikes on the flanks to stop cav, but that's it. They just get slaughtered by normal infantry.

also never engage your cavs in a standing duel against infantry from the front, doesnt matter what infantry.

M2tw works a lot different than rome, they will get picked apart if they stay in combat with infanty,

use ur horses for hammer and anvil tactic or just a quick charge and retreat. this is ofc if you win the cav part of the skirmish.

@the10ne1 Actually, no, cavalry gets ripped to shreds in RTW if they stand still. The problem here is that the feel for the game and the camera were WAY different than Rome Total War. So half the time, I had no idea what was going on. I KNOW what to do but I'm not used to the feel for this game.

pikes are usless except in early age,against knights they are prety much usless, even in early period they need infantry suport to be effective.

and to be honest denmark have one of the best heavny infantries, you should have went with your heavy knights even tho they are expensive.

I find that, if they are well used and supported by heavy infantry and cavalry, preferably archers too, Pikes are very efficient in breaking cavalry charges. They should not be used offensively or on their own unless necessary. Of course this is only my own opinion formed from my own experiences.

Well, it depends on what you are playing on. Most people only have medieval 2 and none of the expansions. You can only join games with the maps and factions in the same game you play.

Wow, I never thought I would see you actually lose a battle Prince. I'm actually tempted to reconstruct the armies involved and see if their was a way to turn it around for the Teutonic. To be honest I can't see any major mistake that cost you the fight. The only thing I can think of is you chased away the enemy cav that was hitting your archers and then they sat there for a bit. If they had immedialty charged into the cav fight on your left it might have made a difference.

Prince you were right the Teutonic Knights did trample their own infanry at the battle of Tannenburg in the year 1410 AD when the allied army of Poland, Lithuania, and Russia charged at their archers and the impashiant Grand Master ordered the cavalry to charge at the fleeing infantry because of their "honor" (they were granted the land of the pagans they conquered, but they continued to gain land in Poland, (don't bight the hand that feeds you) Lithuania, and Russia.)

DAYUM, I did NOT expect that crushing defeat you suffered. However, I can see how you lost- MTW II really is a different game than R:TW. Unit types that were not as effective before now are effective- pike men aren't nearly as desirable, and knights are bought into the mix.

not really, the battles arnt as fast paced, which is kinda reaslistic seeing as in reality battles lasted for hours and sometimes days.

plus it can be made harder (and better in my opinion) with the crap load of mods available! (^^)

Pikes are very weak compared to the shorter spears used by Armoured Hoplites, Sacred Bands, etc.

Also, Urbans own Pikes.

Short Spears from the tougher hoplite units are strong. Same goes for Urban Cohorts. They all own pikes in RTW.
