  • he is truly a clever clever man, I have alot of respect for him and his work

  • Oh Moore...only you can take characters from old victorian literature and turn them BADASS

  • The new John Carter movie looks good - but what a pity Disney didn't at least look at the incredible vision of Burrough's Barsoom that Kevin O'Neill produced for Book 2 of the League of Extraordinary gentlemen.

  • Is this worth buying?

  • @SlipknotFanize

YES. One of the best comics that i own.

  • @SlipknotFanize IS THE SKY BLUE?!

  • Out of all Alan Moore's collaborations, the Brundlefly of League is probably my favourite.

  • wow, did they really just edit out moore's words on Mina Murray? isn't she pretty much the central character?

  • The Hyde & Invisible Man resolution was brilliant. What a great twist.

  • @Panzer4F2 "This is the life, eh Griffin? This is the life" :-O

  • @cha5 it must've been like being buggered by an elephant.... : 0

  • the leauge film is good but the book is vastly superior

  • @MrWiLDAPEMAN The League movie is a piece of crap and how dare you to compare it to the books!

  • @Gillipow the leauge film and the book have nothing in common except the title and a few charachter names the film on its own was quite good but as an adaptation of the book its complete bollocks

  • Hyde actually rapes hawley griffin, the invisible man.

  • @TheBambiniGiant

    Then eats him.

  • From the point when 'Hyde gets a hold of the invisable man, through to when 'Nemo & 'Hyde are sitting having dinner at a table, then all of a sudden the invisable mans blood slowly starts to appear all over Hyde & the table is 1 of my favourite comic book moments ever!that's from vol.2 BTW.I agree with Moore about Hyde being 1 of his best piece of characterisation,it comes 2nd after his work with swampthing which was an amazing piece of work. The man is head & shoulders the best writer in comics!!

  • Over at Rich Johnson's website bleedingcooldotcom you can find an image for the upcoming Kevin O' Neill cover for

The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Century 1969 due out in 2011.

It's psychedelic to say the least :)

  • @cha5 Thank you so very much for telling me where this is. Thanks so very much! The league needs more publicity!

  • Anyone who doesn't appreciate Kevin O Neill's artwork is a wrong 'un. Easily my favourite comic artist.

  • Not to be too much of a naysayer, but those drawings.......arent great.

  • @ObsidianImages Your opinion, for me O'Neill is one of the all time greats and I can't imagine any other artist but him on TLOEG.

  • @ObsidianImages Yeah, O'Neill's work is unique and it works in some places, but when I was reading it I was thinking he really couldn't draw people too well.

  • @FriedEggsInTheSky "If you look at Kevin's artwork with a knowing eye, you can see traces, very strong traces, of the often brilliant British juvenile comicbook artists, like Leo Baxendale, people like Paddy Brennan, Dudley Watkins, and also great British caricaturists like Hogarth or Gilray. Kevin is a wonderful illustrator, he's a great comic artist in that he can tell sequential stories with incredible verve" Alan Moore, Heroes & Monsters,

I was always into his work ever since Marshall Law.

  • @cha5 true. he knows his stuff and has a good eye for detail

But some parts the characters looked rather different to previous drawings, as if they hadnt been drawn with the same quality.

I dunno. Ill have to read them again.

  • I find it funny that Alan Moore, who throws fits when his works are so sensationalized in filmed, didn't find it any bother to turn Mr. Hyde into the Hulk and every other character and blow them out of proportions.

  • @thegmanofEAP Have you actually read the comics? Hyde into the Hulk? If you think about it, the Hulk was a creature who borrowed a considerable amount of qualities from Hyde. Besides, Hyde is an incredibly dynamic and deep character whereas the Hulk was a dumb brute. As for his reaction to the movies based on his books, did you ever see The League in movie form? It was complete crap. V for Vendetta? Changed the central moral and character significantly. Watchman is the only one that is good.

  • @splinterchaos1 You bring up a good point about the Hulk and Hyde. And while I really did like V for Vendetta, they did change a lot (but for the records, I saw the film before the movie).

Also, yes, the League movie is terrible. And yes, I own and read vol. 1 and 2 of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, V for Vendetta, and Watchmen.

  • @thegmanofEAP What do you mean "I saw the film before the movie." ?

  • @Jameswade2k Whoops, sorry. I mean I saw the film before the movie.

N, I mean I saw the film before reading the book.

  • .....why does the invisible man's blood only show when he is bleeding???

  • @john3000931 Because it's outside of his body. Under his skin, it'd be invisible, but outside, it could be seen.

  • Comment removed

  • @john3000931 Sorry for that spoiler there, anyways the explanation in the original H.G. Wells story is that his blood becomes visible as it coagulates (clots).

  • @john3000931 I dont think its when he's bleeding. I think its because he's dead.

  • Why the fuck does the mainstream media give us fucktards like Bill O'Reilly to listen to, when there are men like Alan Moore alive, who have a calm, rational demeanor, and reasoning minds? Oh, wait, the whole "free range humans" thing...

At least we have John Stossel on our side, now. :D

  • @libertarianjury very true and well said, Glen Beck gets a TV show, when if there is any justice, he would be living under a bridge shitting into a KFC bucket

  • is it just me or has this book starting to really resemble that Dylan song Tombstone Blues...

  • @HolyFerdinand Well I willing to wait for the second installment of Century,

I really hope things don't go too badly for Alan and Mina.

  • @cha5 I heard him say the league was going to be whittled down to 1 member (probably Mina), so yeah... Damn I really love the series though. I'm getting to the point where I really think it's his best work. I also think harry potter's going to at least make a cameo in the next one. He was talking about occult stuff that went on in the sixties, you know like the sort of think Crowley, Manson, and Jim Morrison were all into, so maybe he's thinking of linking that into HP. That would be cool.

  • @HolyFerdinand I haven't heard about the League being whittled down,

the last I heard was that the final volume of Century would be ending up in the present day, I'm really looking forward to the next two volumes of Century, but am also slightly nervous about how Century might end, I've really gotten kind of fond of Alan and Mina.

  • @HolyFerdinand As to a Harry Potter cameo you do know that Moore had a H.P. cameo in that Top 10 spin off Smax don't you? He was under a different name being as it was something of a parody cameo, but it was still Harry Potter.

  • R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

  • @WeNeedSomeGolfShoes

Yeah, it's really essential to most readers who aren't experts on all the obscure references that Moore and O' Neil run through all of the LOEG stories which would likely fly over most readers heads as Moore himself said

"Without these two companion volumes, I doubt that the experience of the original work would be as complete, And I also doubt that Kevin and I would have felt sufficiently liberated or encouraged to push the concept quite as far as we currently are"

  • @WeNeedSomeGolfShoes

    Sorry about that LOL

  • @WeNeedSomeGolfShoes

The Jess Nevins annotated TLOEG books I mentioned are rather essential for understanding all the references you get in TLOEG or you can check on his website for free Geocitiesdotcom/ratmmjess/

annosdothtml which covers all of the LOEG volumes and which Moore and Kevin O' Neil have endorsed as an essential information source on the wild and wonderful world of TLOEG.

  • @WeNeedSomeGolfShoes

Uh no that's not what I said at all,

the back stories are somewhat essential to TLOEG, for instance in Vol 2 it's revealed that Capt Nemo had a daughter, and the existance of Orlando is revealed who plays a major part in TLOEG not to mention the fact that Quartermain and Mina become immortals.

  • There is a six part interview with Kevin O' Neil over at thecomicsjournaldotcom in which he talks about his career going all the way back to Nemesis the Warlock and Marshall Law and all the way up to him and Moore first starting out with TLOEG and all of his experiences (good and bad) up to the present day.

  • @WeNeedSomeGolfShoes

Well everypart of the back stories in TLOEG Volume 1 & 2 is connected with literary characters both well known and obscure from Victorian literature,

I find Jess Nevin's two books

'Heroes & Monsters' and 'A Blazing World' which are a panel by panel annotation of both TLOEG volumes and their back stories and just about every reference in them to be invaluable when reading TLOEG.

  • i didn't quite get LXG when i first read it... i went away and was like "that was awesome, that was amazing but nothing happened" that btw was not a bad thing... Moore shows that stories don't need to be action-packed to be (forgive me) extraordinary

  • I loved the LXG books:D

alan is so spot on when he thought about putting together literary characters for his own justice league. Superb.

  • Terrific series of talks. Thank you.

  • "Mr. Hoid". Oh god, I love his accent.

  • Can't say which one is better, but Alan Moore is about a hundred times smarter, and more interesting.

Stan Lee just has a little more P.T. Barnum in him, and far too much of his reputation is due to Jack Kirby.

  • One question

Who's better Stan Lee or Alan Moore?

  • they both have different takes on comics

stan's more on mainstream while alan is a bit more indy..

both are awesome character creators btw.

Spider-man for Stan while Rorschach for Alan:D

  • how is nemo a prince i only saw the disney ver of 20 thousand leauges

  • Its in the book sequel "The Mysterious Island." If you liked the movie you'll like the books also I think.

  • @Blakefe Read The Mysterious Island by Verne

  • 4:28 - 5:16, Holy shit look at him go!

  • Kevin O'neill drew Torquemada in 2000ad brilliantly.

  • i just never get tired of listening to moore:)

  • TLOEG Century: 1910

    just came out today.

  • i know i was so excited. i cant wait to read it

  • hes right no one else could draw it

  • What about Wilhemina? She was an important part of the League too!

  • Yeh she was the leader and the brains behind the league. Plus they misspelled Quatermaine lol

  • It just kills me that all his works have been turned into mediocre films.

  • just this one

  • Comment removed

  • I had an english teacher called Miss Murray.

  • did she always ware a scarf?(note i have only read vloume 1)

  • Sadly no.

  • No just after Dracula mangled and scarred her neck

    (prior to Volume 1)

  • And keep in mind that's true to the book. Those two little holes you see in the movies is just Hollywood/Hammer myth.

    ty

  • Yeah in Stoker's novel Dracula's encounter with Mina isn't a romantic neck kiss leaving two little pin marks with Mina swooning in bliss like what you see in alot of Dracula/Vampire films, in the original novel it's a brutal bloody attack that's pretty close to a rape.

"Not quite the two discreet puncture-marks of legend, are they?"

  • I think I also remember Moore's conception of Dracula was that he had serrated teeth, I would kill for O'Neill

to do a Dracula illustration for that

    Dracula/Mina TLOEG storyline

I'm sure it would look like something out of a nightmare.

  • A Dracula comic from O'Neil based on the novel would make me go bunkers in excitement. I want to see his Dracula as this perverted old man that wants to infect young ladies with his desease.

I wish we would see more of Kevin O'Neil's work.

  • Me too, when I was up at the Big Apple Con Summer Sizzler show last June which had O' Neill as a guest,

I had him sign my Absolute Editions of TLOEG Vol1 and 2, He was nice enough to do a sketch of Mina in my Vol 2 book,

When he asked what I wanted I had asked him if he might could possibly try to do a sketch of Dracula coming into Mina's bedroom just seconds before he attacked her, I even offered to pay him whatever he would have wanted for that particular sketch.

  • cont

But he explained that it was something he had worked that exact scene out in his mind and that he would be working it into an upcoming TLOEG storyline and that he really didn't want to spoil it for any of the readers.

So I was perfectly happy with his sketch of Mina that he gave me for free,

He also gave someone a really beautiful sketch on drawing paper of Captain Nemo which was gorgeous, O' Neill is a really nice guy and fun to talk with and I hope we'll be seeing him again.

  • Nice story! I wonder if he's gonna use it. I did not buy the recent mini-series of League after the Martian stories so I wonder if he did use it or not.

  • Comment removed

  • Not yet he hasn't, I met O'Neill after

    'TLOEG Century: 1910

had been published back in June.

That's been Moore and O'Neill's latest TLOEG issue so far.

  • I wonder why O'Neil is only doing Leagues work. How is he putting food on the table?

  • cool, since i bought the vol.2 of LEG im looking for him in every comicon or conventions never had luck___

  • hehe i love that quote

  • Too bad his book was turned into a dumbed down piece of crap.

  • Hollywood my friend.

  • you rock man

  • I'm not a fan of comic books but I'm a HUGE fan of crossover fiction. I just can't get enouigh of crossover stories

When I heard about the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen being a crossover of literature, I knew I needed to look up the roster. I was entrhalled to see it had as much characters as the Argonauts Quest for the Golden Fleece.

Now the question remains if I should buy the first volume or not. Like I said, I'm not a fan of comic books but my love of crossovers are strong.

  • buy it and you will become a fan of comic books

  • You should indeed buy it ^^ Alan Moore is in my opinion one of the best writers

  • H.P lovecraft stephen king edgar allan poe TS elliot and him (alan moore) are my favourite writers i like jules verne alexander dumas and John Katzenbach but the first ones are the best to transmit all the grotesque fear and suspense

  • That's some comparison.

I'll have to admit thougy, I'm into manga and prefer to read manga mainly because I always felt comics were pretty much the same (though some may argue so is manga). is he really as great as ppl are claiming him to be?

  • Yes.

Unlike more commercial series such as Batman or Spiderman (which are still good, don't get me wrong) Moor's comics have a deep level of meaning to every aspect of there design.

It makes it a lot more like reading a book and a lot more intelectualy stimulating.

I also enjoy manga, but consider them to be just the same as comics, just from a different part of the world.

  • "intelectualy stimulating"

    That would be 'intellectually' stimulating...

  • I can't spell.

    Dyslexic.

  • Who asked you, You really are a pillock...........

  • Who asked you, you pillock.

I was pointing out the irony. I suppose humour is lost on you.

  • Yeah it really looked like that. Humour that was humour. Humour isnt lost on me if its funny, you just looked like the typical you tube spelling correcting prick, pray tell mr genius how is that funny.

Oh yes it was dripping in irony. Ive read your comments on other pages go fuck yourself.

  • Oh, the ones about anarchy not working?

Would you like to explain to me why that warrents a 'self fucking'?

  • 'i dont like you'

'fat, liberal sensibilities, think you know pain'

from the ground up is simple to explain(mind you only a moron woud it explained) it means from the street level, from the people.

It warrents a self fucking(no one else would) becuase your just hanging around these pages in the simple intention of winding moores fans up. Youve added nothing intelligent to any arguement.

Love the vids youve uploaded, o thats right youve not, your just another no user here to comment, great.

  • "Youve added nothing intelligent to any arguement."

    Need I say more?

Suck my dick. I love your cumulative 650 views. Re-fucking-spectable.

See, this is why I don't comment on the same account I post videos to. You just get immature people who are purely here to wind you up. God dammit, why can't you just be mature about this?

  • Hey 650 veiws is better than fuck all.

Oh yeah, i have another account with videos. Really hmmmmmmmm

I hope your being 'funny' trying to say Im immature go check your anarchy comments then try a proper come back. I think your just angry cos your a moron and i called you out for it.

whats your other channels name considering under terms and conditions you should have only one?

  • I'm really going to use the same channel to antagonise people that get so butthurt about me pointing out the flaws in their ideas that they actively go check my channel for videos, no doubt with the intention of rating them all 1 star and leaving ridiculous comments, then quote the terms of service as an attack on my character, as the one I use for videos. Fucking great idea.

  • You do assume the worst of people, why would i have any interest in one staring your vids(unless they WERE that bad) If mine start getting one starred i know who did it lol.

I checked your channel to make sure it wasnt a stupid white backed troll/sock account. dont get so big on yourself, im not that interested.

Well you did blantently break it no?

  • you just looked like the typical you tube spelling correcting prick, pray tell mr genius how is that funny. i actually want you to answer that, how is appearing like a fucktard funny?

  • Yeah, next time i see my pal who does stand up i'll tell him to blame the audience if nobody laughs.

It just wasnt funny, i understand how you think it is, but it isnt ok, bye bye

  • Yeah but i can laugh at you and your stupidity for eternity.

    it just isnt funny.

'the idiot protests too much, he must have tiny winey ickle penis'

  • you just looked like the typical you tube spelling correcting prick, pray tell mr genius how is that funny. i actually want you to answer that, how is appearing like a fucktard funny?

  • Alrighty then. Ima check it out then. Are they sold in volumes or individually?

  • they could have made him so cool if he was just a straight up psychopath

  • Why? We're not talking about Rorschach or William Gull here. Hyde is a pretty memorable character in his own right and turning him into a psychopath would really water him down as a character. Besides what he did to Griffin was horrible enough,

"This is the life, eh Griffin?

    This is the life"

  • Kevin o Neill is one of my favorite comic book artists ever. I own as much as i can get of his work.

The Marshall Law comics are just a piece of art, the Savage Dragon 2 issues specially since it is in black and white and he does is own inking.

  • Actually, in the second volume, Hyde gives a speech on how he went from being a small creep into a towering monster. Without Jekyll's restrains to keep him in check, he grew into a massive beast.

  • he totally 4got about the vampire girl in the comic

  • as far as i'm concerned, moore never took much work with female characters some time ago. but he compensated it with his more recent work, like lost girls, top 10, promethea, COBWEB... well, there's also halo jones in the past, but anyways.

  • what about halo jones .? i think the problem back then comics were very much a male domain . it was nt easy to have a female lead . thats changed a bit these days .

  • Alan Moore is a genius ..

  • he took only the aspects that he liked

    duh.

  • What's with the comic sans ms font?

  • kind of answered your won damn question

    COMIC san ms font

Comic sans is almost identical to the typical comic book talking bubble font

  • That's a pretty stupid reasons to use one of the most ascetically unappealing fonts ever made.

  • well it works for what it's used for

  • alan moore is the only person that can pull off finger armor still. it looks so natural with him.

  • I didn't realise Kevin O'Neil was a posh butler.

  • i love the stuff he has on his fingers!

  • Finger armor. It was made popular about 8 years ago but has long since faded.

  • BBC4 really is the best channel on t'telly. And possibly Dave.

  • He doesn't talk about Mina, and she's probably the biggest change from the source material.

What's brilliant about the whole idea of LXG is that these adventure novels were really the comics of their day.

  • Moore's daughter Leah Moore is actually going to be doing a comicbook adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula novel, In the latest 'Comicshopnews' there's an interesting interview with her and the subject of Mina as a character is mentioned, mainly how she'll be portraying Mina as opposed to how she's portrayed by her father in TLOEG.

  • well..mina has a lot to do with the main plot...if he included it, it might contain or spawn spoilers.

  • Mattnek- Alan Moore in Comics Britannia...He uses "we" when referring to his and the artist's collaboration and shows a real reverence for the entire medium's process and players. It is possible to have a graphic depiction convey a story and remain a comic book/graphic novel without words. When a book is composed of only words it remains literary,a book. Thus, the comic book/graphic novel is necessarily dependent upon "ants." Something to remember grasshopper. +1 to RoadWarriorSammy

  • It takes the talent of a drawer to make the vision possible and Alan Moore would be just as helpless without anyone to work with, so do your homework sonny.

  • He looks a bit like Rasputin.

  • Michelle Trachtenberg! Has a Morlock raped your sanity? She'd be absolutely the worst person ever for Mina. Far too young and immature and trashy and 'American' (in the bad way).

I always saw Juliet Landau as a convincing Mina. She has a victorian-ness about her.

  • LMAO @ the Morlock rapists. What can I say, Michelle is growing up fast and is a real knockout. It's a shame she hasn't explored more serious roles.

Juliet Landau certainly looks the part of Mina Harker, and if we're comparing BtVS alumni, Juliet does beat out Michelle. I'll check out more of Juliet's work.

  • The movie adaptation of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is an abomination. I would love to see a director like Christopher Nolan or Robert Rodriguez give a go at a proper remake.

  • Comment removed

  • I've always envisioned Crispin Glover as Jekyll, Amitabh Bachchan as Nemo, Michelle Trachtenberg as Mina Harker, and in a scandalous move, Sean Connery again playing Allan Quatermain. Maybe Ricky Gervais can do Griffin's voice.

  • Comment removed

  • I have enjoyed much of Miller's work, and see it as approaching a pinnacle of the graphic novel while sticking to the established boundaries.

Moore, however, is in a different league: he pays little heed to convention and as a result is responsible (not quite, but almost, single-handely) for expanding and improving the genre. Not only has he mastered the graphic novel, but expanded it into new areas.

  • See? That's what I don't understand. This whole hoopla over Sin City. C'mon. We're talking about a man that really has no big aspirations for comics. He has no way of pushing the medium forward. I'm not trying to call anybody a fanboy, but Sin City is too dumb for words, and I'm sorry, satire can only go so far before it breaks under its weight, and in 10 (or so) books that's exactly what happens. Also, Samuel Fuller did more justice to the genre (in film) than someone like Frank could ever do.

  • My favorite is watchmen by far. But all of his work is great!

  • One of the best comics books of recent years. I didn't really like The Black Dossier though. Maybe I should give it another go.

  • You can tell Moore enjoyed writing Hyde the most. Hyde is easily the best character in the series.

  • alan moore is such a skilled writer, i havent read this one though, anyone know where i can get a copy?

  • Your local comic shop, Mile High Comics, Amazon if you want a good discount.

  • thanks

  • I wish Frank Miller and Alan Moore would team-up to do a comic. :(

  • BEST IDEA EVER!!!

  • i heard that Alsn Moore hates Frank Miller

  • No he just doesn't think very highly of 300.

  • Or JIMO probably Miller's Spirit movie being that Will Eisner was one of Moore's biggest influences.

  • What is so great about Frank Miller?
