What Perfect is saying is that Yelowstone is a supervolcano and if it (when) it erupts, it's a total game-changer. It's a caldera, not a cone-shaped volcano, it's a volcano so huge that you can't even tell you're in one unless you view it from the air.

However, as i's seriously overdue for a blowout, I would be concerned that it can and will explode with so much force that it will be seen in Chicago. and the effects felt as far away as the Atlantic Ocean with severe ashfall up to 1500 miles away. Makes Mt. St. Helens look like firecracker.

If it did erupt then the initial damage would be done upto 100 miles away and that would be devistating almost instantly from Caldera erupting, the reach of poisonous gasses, ash and smoke would reach upto 500 miles away. It would kill many people and animals, yes but as for the Ice Age that wasn't just the cause of Caldera erupting it was due to a massive meteor hitting mexico and the earthquake set off Caldera so it was a double wammy. The devistation would be felt economically worldwide.
