The unwelcomed stares of Toronto

I get on the subway in my construction gear and I get these stares if it happened in my homeland Ireland there would be a fight.....it is rude

so what do you suppose we do? not look at the poor or disenfranchised, pretend like they did not exist. I believe we should all acknowledge each others right to exist. we don't have to stare but a smile and hey how are you, goes allot further then avoiding eye contact. I lived in Toronto and other cities and what I have noticed is peculiar to toronto, is the social norm that everyone should not make eye contact beyond a certain point.

Some stare I can understand. Some are just really rude and other are just someone one want to ask me something but not sure how to ask. Mostly co worker.. -__- oh well... need to learn their body language...
