  • nice movie

  • nice video

  • I love this movie!! I started cracking up when Nicholson said, "Why don't you start now and get the f*** out of here". Bahahahahahaha!!! Priceless!!! Jake Nicholson makes a fantastic psychopath in this movie!

  • I like that lamp.

  • no offense to her but... even johnny, a creepy psychopath, can do better than her...

  • ALL WORK AND NO PLAY MAKES JACK A DULL BOY

  • i love wendy's face when he says: "get the fuck out of here"

    priceless

  • Wendy, it could have been worse. You could have been stuck with him for 5 months to find him writing the manual script to TWILIGHT

  • Good thing something inside told her to bring the baseball bat!

  • Husband of the year.

  • I love this movie

  • Shelly seems to be targetted for all the criticims, but yet is ignored by viewers and downplayed that she also is the last and hopeful resource to save the boy (and Shelly is also the only level-headed character in the film) from the Insane, way over the edge, mentally deranged, evil Mr. Torrence and the rest of his fellow ghosts bringing havoc on the hotel.

  • I don't understand the constant ridicules and criticism on Shelly Duvall, which she happens to be a very attractive lady. Presumably those critics must be either brainwashed or their perceptive definition of beauty is too primitive to have a grasp of understanding of true beauty.

  • @jabrown45100 Are you mad?!?!TRUE BEAUTY?!?!? You must be insane, shelly duvall is BUTT UGLY, not question about it!

  • @oolioann

You just shown your credibility--zero rating for you. Be nice, her father was a lawyer

  • @oolioann In your opinion. They have a right to disagree with it.

  • She is so ugly :P Here eyes look at diffrent directions :P

  • STREPITOSO

  • Call Popeye!

  • Oh I just noticed some errors in Jack's novel.

    All 4:24

All work and no play makes Jack a dull bog

All work and no play makes Jack a dull bot

    And 4:19

All work and no play makes Jack a dullboy

  • @thewhistler ALL WORK AND NO PLAY MAKES JACA DULL BOY

  • popeye is gonna be pissed if he finds out that jack is treating olive oil like shit.

  • LMFAO

  • why has this got more views than the actual movie that is on YT

  • Major wtf o.o

  • If this movie were made today, Jack could have just hit copy/paste a bunch of times on his computer to write all those "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" lines. Would have saved him a lot of time, not to mention his sanity. Just one more reason why computers are better than typewriters.

  • You know when Wendy's going through the papers I bet I can tell what she's thinking:

    What a waste of paper!

  • stanley Kubrick genius, Jack Nicholson and Shelley Devaul great. Please correct me if I'm wrong though. Stephen King- King of Horror

  • stanley Kubrick genius, Jack Nicholson and Patty Devaul great. Please correct me if I'm wrong though. Stephen King- King of Horror

  • stanley Kubrick genius, Jack Nicholson and Patty Devaul great. Please correct me if I'm wrong though.

  • @2Modern4Angel2 No tv and no beer makes home go CRAZY! Luv that halloween parody! XD

  • yes thats true nicholson plays the psychopat and the asshole perfectly..

  • 1:04 He's thinking, "Wow, I really don't care."

  • it's amazing that people still watch this 1980 film

  • la parte 3 si que d mucho miedo quirres jugar con nosotras para siempre por siempre jajaja ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ is mentira is dislu o yeah

  • @ratlover35 Yeah he will be sad specially by the fact he ain't getting his sandwiches

  • Lol what an asshole. At 1:58-2:26 if I were her I totally would have kicked his ass by then. Like picked up that typewriter and slammed it over his head. Pushed him over in his chair, stepped on his balls and spit on him. Then say "No sandwiches for you!". For real.

  • Im distracted of how ugly that lady is.

  • @CTR3003 Well buddy, having visited your channel page and gotten a gander at WHAT type of women YOU like, it's quite evident why THIS ole gal wouldn't appeal to you. I mean, she isn't quite a fat-ass fetishists delight,.. now is she?

  • Oh hun dont be so groutche.... Allitle Late on that Wendy .

  • Wendy jus got owned. I luv how she asks him all this info and hes like "Fuck oFf' lol

  • @GG100FDZ When is this movie due to be released?

  • if i where her i would have been cool and based his head in when he was sleeping

  • I like how the whole time Jack was writing the novel he was just typing the same shit over and over again lol

  • this movie is the shit....the music makes this movie and so does jack nicholson

  • "come play with us stewie forever and ever"

  • i love this film first time i wached was wen i was about 11 and im 13 now, i love it, i wach it with my sister every weekend, best film eva i highly recmend it

  • lol hes like fuk off bitch at 1:36

  • @lolwatism I can see why she seem waayy too clingy.Everybody needs space lol

  • HAHA!

"I think you have some very definate idea's about Danny, and i'd like to know what they are" LMFAO! Jack Nicholson Is A Legend!

  • When she's got the bat and sees what Jack has been typing; that's the best scene in the movie for me. Her face; her expression.

Shelley Duvall was so great in this movie. She's still one of my favorite actresses.

  • oh my god i just read the book and it says that Wendy is a very beatiful woman but this actress is very ugly LOL

  • the movie is a pinnacle of American filmmaking, it couldnt have been filmed or acted any other way.

  • Jack can't play a right prick very well.

  • as much as i saw there was nothing horrifying. is all movie as this? something but nothing

  • I've ALWAYS wanted to watch this movie yet I have never been able to! Dammit, I need to go to blockbuster and get this.

  • 'WENDY.....LIGHT OF MY LIFE'!!!!!

  • Wow i'm so glad it's on youtube. The only reason i'm watching it is because my mom kept talking about what a great movie it was so i just decided to check it out. Sometimes when i wanna check out a movie on here you have to click onto a website to watch it and it's a pain in the ass so i'm glad i can watch it on here.

  • Shelley Duvall looks like Ronaldinho!

  • @PencilPusher93 lol yeah, it's true same face and same teeth

  • @PencilPusher93

She's Ronaldinho's mum after she left jack she married a brazilian man!

  • this movie really weirds me out but i like it

  • lol i feel so bad for wendy ): Id be like the go make your own fuckin meals bitch. then id jus sleep with an axe

  • Kubrick was a genius the rolling cameras the music ..immense

  • he needs a chill pill

  • You know your marrige is in trouble when you have to carry around a bat just to see what your husband is working on.

  • kubrick must have been the greatest filmaker of all time. 2:20 when he tells wendy to get the fuck out and he grins is abolute. thats the point where you can see in his eyes he knows he can do whatever he wants way out there and nobody is going to do anything about it. shows how even a man can loose control of himself and not know it. people say this movie isnt scary but those people dont look at things deep enough.

  • yes indeed.. i was like 5 when this was out but i remember looking at it as i got older..... this is one of the reasons i hate big places being alone hearing strange noises.... to me this is jack best time that put him on the map

  • @ 2:50, you can literally hear him type out "All work and no play make Jack a dull boy."

  • stephen king has always scared the s*!% outta me!!

  • @TheBlazefan123 if you go to youtube and watch clips of it, no.

rent the movie, and it's amazing.

    i highly reccomend it.

mind you, if you don't like scary movies, there's only one scary part.

    have a good time ;D

  • I love how they made the writing diffrent on the paper for each one

  • what all the redness about at 7:20 ??

  • compare the back wall at 0:53 and 1:03. This isn't a mistake, it's completely deliberate on Kubrick's part.

  • What do you mean by that?

  • @Hirfel So why did he deliberately remove the chair & trim-work 1/2 way through the scene? Was there a reason, or was he just messing around? @ 0:53 & 1:03

  • @bruno2260 Most likely Kubrick was trying to create a subliminal atmosphere. The way furniture moves and the layout or rooms is never constant from scene to scene (and the map of the hotel is illogical - for example, there are windows to the outside where a hallway should be) it all makes for a subconscious feeling of uneasiness and a loss of a sense of direction. It's also a reference to the classic horror film motif - chairs moving on their own. This happens throughout the movie, not just here

  • she is so pale 5:23

  • Jack Nicholson was brilliant this movie is one of the alltime great horror movies! Does anybody know what 4 minutes were cut out of the movie!

  • i wonder what interns had to sit for hours typing "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy?"

  • it was only about 20 pages.

  • more like 50 or so! aaahha!

  • There's footage of Kubrick doing it himself in the behind the scenes.

  • Is this really supposed to be a scary movie? Cause they aint doin a great job of it. Altough it is good.

  • ... 1980

  • @Gabbrielle1999 you dont get it.

  • "How do you like it?"

    *YELPS!*

Awesome reaction shot, and rightfully so. She had to go through 127 takes of that until Stanley Kubrick felt satisfied Shelley pulled it off right! So by that time, her nerves really WERE shot, and her yelp crossed beyond acting into the real world.

    Simply....awesome.

  • @Usagi1992 exaaactly what i was thinking HAHA Great acting on the greatest horror film :)

  • All work and no PLay ma es Jack a dull boy

  • LOVE the lighting in this scene (that starts at 3:00).. love the music. Love the acting. Favorite scene in the movie by far <333 up until wendy whacks jack with the bat. it's so good....!

  • Jack Nicholson took on this role like a true genius! He was able to switch from the role of the good husband to a maniacal lurking fiend. No one else could've played it better.....He is one of my favorites of all time!!!!

  • agreed!

  • Comment removed

  • Hell yeah!

  • @in2theabyss17 Some argue that Nicholson was not the ideal person for the role, because even before they went to the hotel he seemed a slight bit insane.

  • He was somewhat "very reserved" in the several opening scenes....but if you read the book, the ghosts of the Overlook Hotel started on him from the moment he and his family arrived. I still like what he did for the movie.

  • @in2theabyss17 really? I thought he was jerk the whole time

  • @in2theabyss17 i could have

  • im surprised kubrick let that mistake in there. hes described as such a perfectionist

  • are you talking about the spelling mistakes at 4:14???

the words were spelled wrong on purpose!

  • really? why?

  • Kubrick left 'mistakes' in to suspend our dispelief. He wanted us to snap out of watching a movie becuase he wanted us to notice something. For an analyisis on hidden narratives in this and other Kubrick movies, check out robag88 movie reviews and also a Kubrick fan site called Kubrick Corner. The man had more to say than his movies would lead you to believe at first glace.

  • Lol at the mistakes at 4:15

  • i really want to watch this! Is this really AmazingPhils house then?!?! Its huuuuuuge!

  • awsome..what to say

  • 0:45

I remember this scene when I watched it with my friends. We were all shocked when Jack took the paper away and it was like "wtf I'm we all got shocked by a piece of paper??"

  • i think b/c it's jack nicholson - any other actor and it probably would have been funny, but he is soooo intense!

  • All work and no boys makes Geoff a dull boy. All work and no boys makes Geoff a dull boy. All work and no boys makes Geoff a dull boy. All work and no boys makes Geoff a dull boy. All work and no boys makes Geoff a dull boy. All work and no boys makes Geoff a dull boy. All work and no boys makes Geoff a dull boy. All work and no boys makes Geoff a dull boy. All work and no boys makes Geoff a dull boy. All work and no boys makes Geoff a dull boy. All work and no boys makes Geoff a dull boy.

  • why did you type that for?

  • Because Geoff has no fun with no boys. =(

    GRUB!

  • Who's Geoff?

  • Saint Geoff is the one and only true son of God and will deliver the world's young boys into eternal paradise, basking in man-boy love!!!

Geoffrey Almighty Leonard!!! (look up geoffrey leonard on youtube)

  • Tylko praca bez zabawy

    uschnie z nudy Jack niebawem.

  • "Why dont you start right now and get the fu*k out of here?!" What a brilliant work by Jack Nicholson...!

  • "How do you like it?" Brilliant

  • All work and no smoke make jack a dull boy.

  • lol at 1:35

  • how do ya like it?

  • Poor Wendy. Actually I'm a lot like Jack whenever I'm drawing. I hate being distrubed. But still pooor Wendy D:

  • poor Wendy :(

  • yeah right as if any woman would take that

  • she could see he was crazy. She was smart. She knew pushing him would only cause bad things to happen. She left to get her mind together. She did right. When you look in the eyes of someone who is really willing to kill you, its natural to back away.

  • the chair behind Jack disappears and appears again, this is an intencional mistake 0:54

  • y dont u start right now and get the fuck outta here

  • am I the only one that thought shelly was a amazing actoress in this movie?

  • i agree

  • @3landon3 nope i loved her too :)

  • @3landon3 i thot she was a terrific actress in this movie. she shld have recieved and oscar or at least nominated for one

  • @3landon3 yes

  • @3landon3 She was an amzaing actress but when she made her scared faces she was scarier looking than jack lol

  • @3landon3 no she was better playing olive oil in popeye lol she was absouletly PERFECT for that role

  • @3landon3 No, she was really a good actor, but I think she's ugly...

  • @stiefel1998 *actress lol

  • @WayTooDazedConfus3d Yes sorry i'm from germany :D

  • @3landon3 no I thought it too, she is amazing

  • "No tv and no beer make homer something something"

  • Go Crazy!?! Don't mind if I do!!!

  • I understand what Jack was talking about. It is upsetting to be distracted when writing. I know, it happens to me all the time, but there was no reason for him to yell at her like that. He wasn't even doing any genuine writing!

  • hes crazy. Its the hotel.

  • Oh yeah, I know he was crazy, but there was no reason to go off like that! He gives writers a bad name! We are already known for being insane, and he's not helping the sterotype! Not all writers are insane! I am, but some of them aren't! XD

  • i love this part

  • look! at 4:23, its written 'dyll boy'. mishit the key! ;0

  • she is not the reason what the movie makes hilarious

  • RIGHT U R

    I LOVE THAT VIDEO

  • I'm NOT being GROUCHY... I just want to FINISH, my work. :D ... :\

  • All those pages of text are similar to my resume, all 10,000 pages....

    ....why doesn't anybody hire me?

  • jack nicholson is 1 of my fave all time actors he just so convincing

  • why this woman??? Wendy was a clever and pretty woman. I haven't got any problem with this lady, but she just absolutely not looks like clever and pretty. But nevermind. Book is better, but movie is nice too

  • I completetly agree, wendy is suppose to be blonde too, i had a different image of her in the book than in the movie, they really changed her

  • well, how about:''all work and no play makes jack a psycho murdering bastard''?!

  • she has very big eyes oO

in the book she´s described so different!!

  • In the book she's a blond, pretty.. Hmm, why would they change that?????

  • Because Stanley Kubrick wants to have a Native American Looking Woman

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @Horror1991 Well this actress doesn't look a damn bit Native American either fool ( since when are Native Americans so pale skinnd ? ). She's a pasty caucasian with dyed black hair!

  • Comment removed

  • jack nickleson is scary the way he starts going insane you can see it such a good actor

  • she's so cute.

    very naive.

  • I felt so bad for her at the beginning. Very good acting.

  • the fact the shining has some of its scariests parts in broad daylight just makes it more frightening.

  • That was the only security I had as a kid. Knowing nothing could get me while the sun was out. Things changed shortly after I saw both this and It the clown lol.

  • the second part where she was looking through the papers i thought he would pop up from behind! very unpredictable movie

  • Does the NEW PUBLICATION EXIST?

  • 1st scene. she knows shes fucked hahaha

  • <
