  • Stid!

  • Why does The Black Scorpion sound just like The Shockmaster?

  • Fucking Ole Anderson talking into a voice box yet again. That guy was such an assclown.

  • Comment removed

  • people get upset at wwe today for being a "child friendly" show but man WC around this time was crazy.Black scorpion, shock master, and fucking robocop?

  • freaky

  • @winfir0 win, everyone was stoned on coke and roids at that time so it was a freaky time.

  • wait who was the black scorpion i remeber watching him but dont know who he was

  • @MrOxhornFan ric flair

  • @MrOxhornFan WCW was tossing ideas around and had planned to reveal his identity before even coming to an agreement as to who they would have be revealed. It eventually became a returning Ric Flair, though he only wore the costume for the match where black scorpion would be unmasked. I think it was supposed to be Arn if Ric decided not to do the job.

  • Best part of this whole thing? The immortal GordonSolie!

  • Gotta give it to Solie, he sold the crap out of this angle.

  • bad come on it was almost worse than the shockmaster

  • "EH! STING, I AM HERE!" What the fuck was the point of that? Hilarious, man.

  • Ole Andersen

  • it took me forever to figure out the silhouette was someone in a hood.

This was actually good going into the Clash of Champions X!!, it was a great mystery that people were talking about. After that, it went downhill

  • that was so fucking bad hahahahaha

  • that sounds like the shockmaster!

  • Christ, Paul E screams like the dead are rising.

  • Ole doing his best yoda impression.

  • Fox's Masked Magician vs. The Stinger. LOL

  • WCW was the best R.I.P

  • who waz the black scorpion? i didnt watched wcw bck then

  • @wwedeadman85 I'm guessing many different people, but the angle ended up with it being Ric Flair.

  • @wwedeadman85 it was several people behind the mask, but Ole Anderson was the guy that did the voice

  • @wwedeadman85

    Flair

  • @wwedeadman85 , ric flair.

  • ROFL at Tony Schiavone in thje Phantom of the Opera mask

  • @darthxaos It was Halloween.

  • hahaha i remember getting freaked out by the black scorpion and also papa shango...i was a very impressionable young kid

  • This would have been awesome if they could have signed Warrior...

  • The most respected wrestling commentator, Gordon Solie

  • ''the black scorpions black magic will be too much''.What the fuck where they smoking when writing this angle.

  • They created an entire angle around hoping they could get Ultimate Warrior!

  • at 3.40 is that Bishoffs voice

  • THE SHOCKMASTER IS THE BLACK SCORPION!

  • 'lotta people back then thought that Ultimate Warrior was the Black Scorpion (because one of the clues was, "Sting's former tag team partner"; plus, WCW played the angle this way for a bit)...I fell for it and that's the ONLY reason I ordered the Starcade PPV...

  • The Black Scorpion was the NWO Sting lol.

  • I think Shockmaster was the Black Scorpion.

  • Everyone knows Chris Angle was the Black Scorpion!

  • I heard Flair agreed to be The Black Scorpion on the condition that he get another World title run. Sounds logical, the month after Starrcade Flair regained the title.

  • Comment removed

  • Ric Flair was not planned to be The Black Scorpion. Ole Anderson had other plans with the idea, but Dusty Rhodes the other booker at the time suggested that he be revealed at Starrcade. They wanted it to be Barry Windham, but Ric Flair offered to play the part just for that one night. It sucks, because I thought the storyline had potential, until the end which seemed too predictable. I will say. Ole Anderson is a good voice over for gimmicks.

  • @HypocriteSkeleton3 Dusty Rhodes was still in the WWF at this time.

  • @TheJman2600 Accoring to Ole Anderson he wasn't.

  • @HypocriteSkeleton3 This was going on in late 1990, at which time Dusty was still in the WWF.

  • Black Scorpion sounds like Lord Humongous from The Road Warrior: "We will have our gasoline, then you can have your revenge!"

  • The Black Scorpion came back a few years later a little bit overweight and sporting a spray painted Clone trooper helmet!! LOL

  • Can't believe WCW didn't just bring in David Copperfield and have him become World Champion. Seriously, who the hell is afraid of a damn magician? Poor Sting. His first world title reign, and this is what they gave him

  • A little bit cheesy, but if done right, it could've been cool. If they made a new version of Black Scorpion, they could do Chris Angel type stunts and "possess" other wrestlers, refs, and women and have his own group... better than the Nexus shit their doing in WWEkids that's for sure.

  • @Rayla840 That's clearly impossible and you're obviosuly riding John Cena's nuts.

  • @nintendojuggalo you are a complete moron if you think a magician would be better than Nexus, Remember Papa Shango? Yeah it's not just the Black Scorpion..the idea is stupid

  • @krobelusthekid Nexus are clearly gay.

  • One of the more interesting story lines in the old WCW. Too bad the ending of it was that Ric Flair was the Scorpion. And, the match actually was not that good.

  • @Burgerrider blame Dusty Rhodes for that.

  • wow that was shit

  • They should have made the Black Scorpion like the Undertaker, full of black magic an sorcery and really fucking with wrestlers' heads, rather than using stupid parlor tricks. Honestly, I made better matches with my wrestling figures than adult bookers did with real-life athletes.

  • They were trying to make it seem like it was the Warrior of course...who was the WWF champion at the time.

  • i miss Gordon Solie, he was the best.

  • @thecreeper1980 Darn right

  • The Black Scporpion was was supposed to be Al Perez (who ?). He quit just before the Sting-Scorpion match. Flair volunteered to be Scorpion for the match. Wikipedia lists 10 different wrestlers as Scorpion. The Scorpion gimmick started as a joke by Ole.

  • LOL @ 3:52. Sting screams like a girl, lmfao...

  • @gatesoftanhauser

That was Paul E Dangerously screaming, not Sting you moron.

  • wow....just...wow lol

  • I was just thinking how the scorpion storyline was pretty good, the pay off just stunk. Can you imagine if WCW had used some money(debt) to get a big name wrestler to be the scorpion they could have been profitable before bischoff. I know people where talking about the storyline in my school and WCW was getting traction.

  • @thetimedshow I was thinking the same thing. If they had really kept the angle going, and maybe gotten another wrestler involved in the story arc, it actually could have turned out alright. Also, if they had sunk more money into the production value of the segments as well.

  • 2:40 is he raping her?

  • No wonder VKM was so far ahead....

  • so bad it good

  • that is just embarasssing

  • i always wanted to catch a chick like sting did. how cool would that be

  • How did he do that?

  • great now we can invite flair to do 10 year olds birthdays

  • An all magician wrestling organization would probably be pretty interesting.

  • haha. Tony Schiavone as the Phantom of the Opera.

  • I read in Flair's book that the storyline went bad and a lot of people played that black scorpion. I think al perez was the first.

  • it only went bad cause of dusty rhodes screwing up the finish, Ole's idea was much better

  • Dusty was still in the wwe at the time it was Jim Herd who screwed this up.

  • Duhty came back and herd handed the angle to him i can give you the link proving that

  • we all know it ended up being Ric flair .

but the person doing the black scorpion voice done at 2:22 was ole Anderson 's voice

  • LMAO Tony as the Phantom

  • How many of you agree and disagree that when Hogan turned heel the WCW should have done the same thing with hogan as they did with flair.

Let the mystery be resolved at Starrcade 1996 and then let Hogan be the new black scorpion?

  • This had to be one of the most intriguing storylines EVER! I remember this when I was 11 years old and I couldnt wait to see who the Black Scorpion was going to be. Only at this time in wrestling could a storyline like this be pulled off. It ended horribly but it definately caught the attention of everyone.

  • These were the days

  • Okay, let's do the post-mortem on the Black Scorpion angle. First, it really wasn't a bad idea in theory. We saw that with the heat generated by the "Higher Power" angle. The problem was in the execution. Had the Black Scorpion been, oh, I don't know evil it might have helped. All he did was do magic tricks. Why not *just* have him be a mysterious masked man who tries to break the babyfaces' legs or something?

  • THat's gotta be Ole Anderson's voice. Sounds just like the Shock Master.

  • LMFAO tony actually screamed

  • HAHAHAHA! Heyman was freaking OUT! LOL

  • The Black Scorpion sounds like an english speaking Star Wars alien.

  • Gordon Solie FTW

  • Sounds like Dr.Claw from the Inspector Gadget cartoon haha. "I'llll getchoooo Gadgettt"

  • Turning human beings into tigers = Ratings

  • lol that is the same voice they used 4 The Shockmaster's debut lol

  • Ole Anderson

  • how lazy, they used the same voice for the shockmaster ha

  • Gorden Solie rocked ass

  • wrestling in the US has a British counterpart- it's called pantomime. He's behind you, oh no he isn't , o yes he is , o no etc.

  • The tiger trick works this way. The guy who is thrown in the cage pulls on the floor where there is a concealed compartment. He gets in this compartment once the curtain is closed (note the "pulling" on the near side of the curtain from the lifting of the trap, forcing the Scorpion to adjust it). The tiger is situated in a very narrow compartment in the back of the cage. The false wall is lowered once the man in the cage is safely in the compartment.

  • OMG! This was almost 20 years ago. This was in 1990, I remember when this shit first happen, Seeing black scorpion talking and all this and that in the shadows! Lol seeing this bring back memories, but also when I start realizing something wasn't right about wrestling. I was 9 then.

  • Ole Anderson really didn't have a clue did he

  • almost ten years before WCW folded.

  • Not matter how ridiculous this became as it went on, it did create a major buzz that WCW hoped for. I remember everyone was talking about this back in 90.

  • that was in nwa, de da dee.

  • ive got that magazine thats behind him !!

old wcw rules!!!-i am the black scorpion

  • lolz, sure.

  • @ 2:13 "the Black Scorpion could be somewhere" and seconds later he's behind you.

  • It's clearly the shockmaster. You can't fool me!

  • I think tha Scorpion was a little late coming out. I'm pretty sure we weren't suppose to c him runnin out.

  • It Might Of Been Stupid But I Liked This Feud

  • well in case none of you guys know, ric flair was the black scorpion. i remember all of the episodes of the black scorpion when i was a teenager

  • it was Al Perez, the Angel of Death, and eventually, Ric Flair just to kill off the angle

  • It wasn't suppose 2 b him though.

  • Ole Anderson

    Al Perez

    Jeff Ellis

    Wild Bill Irwin

    David Sheldon

    Ric Flair

    Barry Windham

  • Hey!!! The Black Scorpion sounds the Shock Master from 1993 (LOL)

  • yeah its ole anderson doing the voice of both characters. He was backstage with a mic doing the shockmasters botched debut. lol

  • lol that shockmaster gimick was WCW's epic fail of all time

  • Solie would always go "UH-UH" whenever someone broke the rules.

  • imagine if black scorpion open his mask and he was honky tonky man.hahahah..what a great fued with sting..hahah

  • LOL @ Ole Anderson's brootal Death Metal vocals. They're pure evil. Every villain should take lessons from the Black Scorpion/Shockmaster

  • Listen closely, huh, Solie?

    HEY! ITS THE SHOCKMASTER!!

  • black scorpion is a former world champ

i remember my match with him

  • Wow Jim Ross and Gordon Solie could sell almost anything...except maybe this feud.

  • How did he turn the guy into the Tiger? I mean I know it was a magic trick, but how did he do it???

  • i thought the last 2 magic tricks were awesome, but the first one was gay lol this angle looked cool

  • i was actualy entiged with this

  • ole anderson was the actual voice of the black scorpion

  • poooor heyman. at least he would soon get out of wcw.

  • LMFAO at the magic disapearing act of running around the WCW logo

  • WTF IS THIS SHIT? SERIOUSLY??

  • Comment removed

  • southernpurewrestling . com has launched

  • hahaha

  • Who was the black scorpian SUPPOSED to be? I know it was flair but it was supposed to be somone else.

  • I copied this from another site:

The original choice for the Black Scorpion gimmick was the Angel of Death, a wrestler that had trained alongside Sting and Warrior...once somebody in WCW realized that nobody would give a damn if he was revealed as the Scorpion, it was decided to go in a different direction. Al Perez declined the role, and though WCW tried to play up the possibility that the Scorpion was the Ultimate Warrior, he was never an option.

  • Ole Anderson

  • i was kind of scared of this when i was a lil kid

  • I don't care what anyone says, when this was going on and I was a kid, this was a very intriguing storyline. The darkness and the voice...I wanted to know who it was. We thought it was badass. It came off pretty flat with Ric Flair being the Scorpion. It would've been memorable if a big star from WWE would've first appeared on WCW in this role. Oh...what the hell was Schiavone wearing? LOL. That may be the most embarrasing thing from the Black Scorpion area.

  • Schiavone looks like a big ass dork. Yes this was a scary angle. When i was younger i didnt mind it being flair because Flair and Sting had a pretty hot feud, I think they even did a spot were the horsemen broke sting's leg and sting brought robocop, so flair being the black scorpion wasnt too weird

  • Haha. How times change. :) Imagine if Randy Orton was to return to WWE with...let's say Iron Man...to get revenge on HHH for breaking his collarbone. He would be a joke! I remember that and the huge buildup around it. If you ever saw that pay per view (it may be on You Tube), you could see RoboCop's leg falling apart as he walked down the aisle. Lol. Sad. I guess he was still suffering from that ass whippin Clarence Boddicker and the boys put on him. Lol. Maybe Ole was Robo. I'll stop now. :)

  • LOL yes wrestling in 1990 was insane. I think that Nwa/Wcw was tryin to hard with these crazy angles and crazy matches. Dusty shoudlve never been a booker. take a look at some of the things wcw has done. Remember the halloween havoc When they had a cage with a electic chair in the middile of ring?

I saw the ppv with robocop, that shit was a joke but looking back the black scropion wasnt as bad as the shockmaster. i actully respect flair for being the company guy and stepping in

  • this gave me nighmares.

  • lol

"It's difficult to tell if that voice had been changed electronically or not"

  • SPOILER ALERT

Ric Flair is the black scorpion lol

  • OMG NO WAI

  • @hyrulehistorian

Only at Starcade. He wasn't the Scorpion at anytime leading up to the PPV. The same thing happened with Brutus Beefcake being the guy that hit Hogan with the metal pipe in 1994. They had Bunkhouse Buck playing him until the mask was removed.

  • ooh, spooky. That's some black magic there!

  • lmao its the shockmaster all over

  • I believe this was before Shockmaster. But yes, the same voice, Ole Anderson.

  • you wanna piece of me stid? LMAO

  • I don't care who you are, boy! I don't give a Damn who you are!

  • This was a great wrestling angle, people actually were genuinely interested to see the outcome of the feud, this was the ealy 90's and I, for one, found this intriguing

  • I just hated the way it turned out. What a let down.

  • The Black Scorpion sounds like a muppet!!

  • Ole just COULD NOT have been serious with this crap, lol.

  • sting was looking so stupid

  • ULTIMATE WARRIOR!!!

  • God, I knew the second I heard the Black Scorpion's voice that it was the same as the Shockmaster's...Possibly 2 of the dumbest "wrestling" angles and characters ever, I guess it's only fitting that the shitty force behind them also provides the voice...

  • this is a shitty storyline man...lol and Flair is the black scorpion fuck...

  • go to wikipedia... type in black scorpion... you will find out that several wrestlers actually portrayed black scorpion. including ric flair, al perez, ole anderson, barry windham, wild bill irwin, and david sheldon. Ric Flair was chosen among them to be the one unmasked by WCW officials.

  • cool man didn't realize that many people portrayed black scorpion... makes sense though

  • I don't know which storyline was worse. Papa Shango cursing the Ultimate Warrior or this garbage! Look at all the great wrestling people who were in this clip: Gordon Solie, Sting, Eric Bischoff, Jim Ross, Paul Heyman. How embarrassing for wrestling!!

  • Ric Flair--oops I spoiled it--I mean, the Black Scorpion!

  • The gimmick was all Ole Anderson's idea, and he originally wanted a former member of Powerteam USA to be revealed as the character's true identity. He didn't decide that Flair would be revealed as the character's true identity until November of 1990.

  • I heard they were trying to get the Ultimate Warrior to leave the WWF

  • Ric Flair--oops I spoiled it--I mean, the Black Scorpion!

  • It was really a pathetic angle Ole Anderson came up with. He didn't even decide who the character's identity would be. He wanted it to be a member of Sting's Powerteam USA. Even though one former member of Powerteam USA, Dave Sheldon wore the mask at times, Ole still wasn't satisfied. Ole would do the voice and different wrestlers would wear the masks It wasn't until November of 1990 when a desperate Ole decided that Ric Flair would be revealed as the character's true identity. Pretty stupid.

  • Seriously, the bit that starts at 2:20 may well be the stupidest thing ever done in wrestling. The Gobbledegooker has nothing on the Scorpion's black magic.

  • lololol. No kidding.

  • LMAO Paul E. rucks

  • @ 2:16 the black scropion is here.

  • This may be a stupid qeustion but from witch year is the starcade match between Sting and Black Scorpion, it is the same match that Black Scorpion is reveled as Ric Flair.

  • Starrcade 90--

  • Cena should have his gimmick.
