  • I lost it completely at "clarion call for the working classes".

  • did he say "dead going unburied, thanks to labour?" He's mint. I want him.

  • hahahah WHO IS BILLIE

  • I couldn't make it to Manchester that night. I was watching ELP.

  • So this is BaaadDad.

  • Who IS Billie?!

  • Even i was at the Freetrade Hall back in the day. There was me, George Formby, Amedeus Mozart, Fat Boy Slim, and Steve Coogan, who was filming 24 Hour Party People...

i robbed Johnny Rottens wallet... gave it him back recently on the set of one of his Countrylife Butter adverts. We went for a pint but didn't get served 'cos we only have 70s money...

  • These have got to be real quotes from old (mid nineties) documentaries / I<3 pUnk progs right?

I'm guessing Danny Baker, Mark Perry and Kenneth Wolstenholme were the actual contributors...

  • oh malcolm was just a wanker and everyone knew it

  • This is brilliant. Someone needs to do a similar one on "Cliched Memories Of Alternative/Grunge"....

Back in 1991 bands like Love/Hate and Kix were everywhere, and guys like U2 and REM couldn't get a break. Everyone had big hair and songs were all about work and beer and relationships. Then I saw Nirvana on MTV going "Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah" playing their one chord over and over. I threw away my GNR and Crue albums and bought all the Bush and Silverchair stuff.......

  • Shergar, Princess Di, Biggy, all there.

  • This is brilliant! I couldn't stop laughing :)

  • Loved Scooch, pity he OD'd in a squat with Stipe and Bono in '79. R.I.P., dear friend.

  • Is this a fake?

  • Yes. It's a parody of pretty much every single documentary ever made about Punk. Adam Buxton (And his dad!) did this for a TV pilot called "Meebox".

  • You mean to tell me this isn't real?

  • I was there too. I went with my surrogate parents Carol Vorderman and Charles Haughtry, I was only 5 at the time but it didn't stop me pogoing with the rest of the crowd. John spat on me, I saved it and kept it in a jar. I still have it.

  • Respect to Baaad Dad! The Forrest Gump of punk.

I enjoyed this mockumentary on at least 13 separate levels. Discuss.

  • i was at that gig too!! with Ainsley Harriott (he taught me how to cook in a crowd that night) and Plato and a Stegosaurus.. It was utter anarchy I remember me and a bunch of medieval servants were tearing up bits of paper for at least half an hour

  • hardcore! : )

  • Being a massive fan of punk and punk documentarys this is every punk documentary ever made.

  • Long live the buxton family!

  • Big up da Nigel!

  • JUST COMING!

  • Stephen!!!!!

  • effing cool. hahaha

  • meebox was on tv??1?

  • for like a day.

    didn't get picked up.

    :(

  • limmy's show didn't get past the pilot either... bbc = the tale of fail.

  • i officially hate the bbc

    but then again

i would hate to see this on fox

  • Pretty sure Limmy's still waiting for a reply. The guys from Burnistoun say that they're waiting.

  • apparently both Limmy and the Burnistoun lot have got full series now :)

  • what the fuck why did i never see meebox advertised. GET A NEW SHOW !

  • Billie, Scootch, Robbie Williams hahahahahh...

  • Heheheh. Nice use of an obscure Fred Schneider solo song.

  • BAAAAAAD DAD!

  • oi Adam Buxton you've ripped off your mate Armando Iannucci a bit with this and his interviews with dear old Hugh

"it was called jungle then, not drum and bass - that came later"

  • Not really. On a very base level they maybe share the joke of 'older gentleman talking about pop culture', but that tends to just be the carrier - Hugh's humour had its roots firmly in Iannucci's own brilliantly ridiculous universe, a man 'reminiscing' about contemporary issues. Baaaddad was more focused on Nigel Buxton's own views and getting an amusing reaction out of a refined and pleasant old chap.

Besides, Baaaddad pre-dates Hugh by four or five years.

  • I stand corrected - assumed this was a new video. You can see where I was coming from though

  • Nah, you're right, I think this is a new video, but BaaadDad's been going for years - there were similar segments to this on the Adam & Joe show in the mid 90s. But yeah, I see where you're coming from - I just find them equally brilliant but in very different ways.

  • This is one of the funniest things I've seen all year - my dad is an 'old timer' and you have no idea how many punk documentaries I have sat through that say EXACTLY those things. Stop on, same this wasn't commissioned...

  • What was the music on BaaadDad Undercover?

  • He is right about Malcolm :P

  • Top Quality Stuff

  • Is this recent? He must be like 84?

  • Sorry to post up here again but I thought I should let Dr Buckles know that the Guardian Guide is still on his side! Check out the TV listing at the foot of pg89 today (2 Aug 08). It's a shame for Taylor but more shame on BBC3! I think that's about three times this year the guide has mentioned Buxton. In other news, welcome back to the radio! Brills.

  • all the punk docs are the same, its high time some one took the piss, well done mr buxton

  • Sir, your dad is awesome. Wanna swap?

  • Baaaddad! LEGEND! You can see where Adam gets it from...

  • Have asked BBC 3 to put me down for a "You Must Be Mad" vote for not commissioning this. Quality....

  • Love Baaaad DAD!! I wish he was my Baaaad Grandad!!! :)

  • "get rid of all that baggage... and be reprogrammed"

    quality!

  • That's shocking news about MeeBOX. It was the best slice of comedy I've gorged on this year. I suppose that unless you're prodding around with obese and/or unfit people, ridding youths of Primark guilt or writing comedy that clearly doesn't have the energy to get past the 1st draft, you don't stand much of a chance wiv da 16-24s! A shame. Is there any way you can post some of JGreenwood's music from the show? Your compy-genius bro would know... Keep the youtube coming... the fans appreciate it.

  • For sure... Don't forget atomic Kitten BaaDad. They reinvented Punk for a new generation.

  • i really hope this gets comissioned and wish that i'd seen it on TV. funniest show i've seen in a while.

  • BaadDad is a legend. He is our leader.

  • My dad thinks Talc-y Malc-y is a wanker too. But then again he thinks that everyone is a wanker, including me... and probably you. But I like you Mister Buxton sir, and your Dad.

  • Brill stuff there mr-buxton of Engloid. :o)

  • Skooch

    HA....!

  • saw meebox on bbc iplayer, great show good sir. its good to see baaaddad on our screens yet again

  • lol "scooch"... your dad is so cool. good job man.

  • The difference between Adam Buxton and a normal person is that he is better!

A new Adam & Joe Show is long overdue. (Or at least new presenters for Songs of Praise.)

  • LOL @ scooch. What a band, they really did us proud. Great to see to the return of baaaaaadad

  • wots the song @ 53 secs, the second song???????????? sorri i'm thick !!! much love x x

  • The song is "New Rose" by The Damned.

  • The Damned - New Rose

  • i wish my dad was that cool, or will be that cool when he's that old.......

  • As usual Mr. Buxton, you fail to disappoint. Top stuff sir, top stuff!

  • watched the show... bit of a hit and miss comedy program... not sure i would watch the whole series

  • Fucking Favulous, Adam, especially the end list

  • *snicker* Robbie Williams.

  • hehe this is fkkn brilliant

  • Loved every second Adam.

I'm enamoured by the liquid filled BBC3 logo bit; I'd love to see that fleshed out when you get com. :)

  • The coolest dad ever!

  • I wish he was my dad.

  • I watch meebox on the iplayer today and thought it was ace. Adam clearly loves youtube :) I hope he does more of his phone in voice clips - they're the besr!

  • Seeing that BADDDAD is in MeeBox has made me even more gutted that I missed it :(

  • It's on bbc iplayer! I missed it too.

  • BBC iPlayer!

  • Ha ha - this was brilliant. More tiresome cliches plaease Adam!

  • Never mind everyone at the (lesser) free trade hall starting a band - almost everyone viewing this video has made a comment

  • Hi Adam. It was a pilot, so the shit bits were shit, and the funny bits - like this - were very funny indeed. What do we have to do so you get a pilot commissioned, and it's all funny bits? I trust you not to be rubbish when you get properly rich and famous.

Just promise not to find a runner to tie up with electrical tape and giggle inanely at all the time, once you make it big in America.

  • Does anyone fancy uploading MeeBox to somewhere where we can watch it outside the UK? Stupid BBC with their stupid "we don't show our stuff to the foreigns" philosophy.

  • You could wait for the DVD so that buying it will support the much underrated work of a comedy legend.

  • I could, but there probably won't be a DVD unless there's a series, which will mean late 2009 at the very earliest. And I live on the internet, which means I demand instant gratification at all times.

Besides, Adam doesn't need the money. He's got a job on the radio, so he must be loaded.

  • "Everyone who was at the Manchester Free Trade Hall gig went on to start a band - Pete Shelley, Bernie Sumner, Morrissey, Thom Yorke, Michael Stipe, Bono, Suggs, Lolly, Billie, Schooch, Robbie Williams..."

    That cracked me up.

  • Yeah Baaaddad, them keyboard solios are rubbish :-D

  • schooch. jesus.

  • BAAADDAD should have his own show!

Or at least just give MEEBox a series, silly BBC!

  • wooo. great

  • nice one :]

  • Keeping it real, nice one.

  • I love Adam's dad, he was one of my favourite bits of the A&J show.

  • fantastic.

  • Gota love BadDad
